ISince it appears that the harsh realities of life are now being broadcast and fictionalised to "entertain" us then maybe we can have some less angst-ridden subject matters in the documentaries that are meant to "educate" us. As a society we are constantly being encouraged to take care of our mental and emotional health and those of our children but ... HOW? Everywhere we turn we are faced with doom, gloom, violence and anti-social activities and now even the 'gentle' entertainment offered by soap operas must, apparently, be corrupted.

I know the horrible events depicted happen in reality but entertainment shouldn't have to be all about the gritty reality of many people's lives.

That's my say, thanks for reading ... I have enough reality in my real life, thanks, and when I sit own to watch a bit of telly in the evening I'd like to just relax and be ... erm ... entertained!

It is the main reason why I stopped watching soaps. First it was Eastenders around the time of Arthur Fowlers big breakdown …ages ago then after enjoying Emmerdale, and almost reared on Coronation Street..I just stopped watching about 2006 I just could not relate to it anymore.
Altogether now “GETOUTMYPUB”😃

Corrie's latest story about a schoolboy's relationship with his older female coach is interesting. A very nice female teacher at my children's school had a relationship with one of the senior boys and was sacked. It was sad. She was an excellent teacher but, obviously, could never be employed as a teacher again. The boy was just over 16. These things happen.

Granmarderby10 oh dear. Ancient cliche. Try to keep up if you must comment on programmes you say you don't watch.

The only one I watch is Emmerdale - just a habit really from years ago.
The current story about child grooming/sex trafficking/drug running is pretty horrendous and hard to watch - BUT - if it wakes up some sleepy parents as to what our young children/teens can be exposed to and so easily become victims of, too terrified to speak to their parents, I think it’s a good thing.
With internet access and unsavoury characters in all walks of life, its a frightening and dangerous world for youngsters to navigate. We all need to be aware of the warning signs.

Aveline It is a favourite in our household we just l-u-r-v-e to hate it.
The scramble for the remote is the most excercise we get some days as soon as that theme plays 🎶
Sometimes if one of us is on the phone and it comes on, we mute it and try and guess what they are saying😃 such fun

You're obviously guessing completely wrong. Try actually watching it.

I don’t watch soaps but I’ve been watching Made in Chelsea pretty much from when it first started. It’s absolutely awful these days but I can’t not watch it!

I was going to start a new thread but searched and found this
Emmerdale has been my favourite soap for years and I agree with what you say about the trafficking and Intended sexual exploitation of April, It’s very powerful and a couple of times it’s made me cry
I think Joe Absolom is playing his part very very well because I remember him from Doc Martin a completely different character
There has been another twist now, but hopefully The perpetrators will soon be caught and face the full force of the law

Me too which is why I haven't watched soaps for years...

I think these hard hitting storylines are correct they should be shown I don’t watch soaps to have a laugh if I wanted a laugh
I d watch the comedians. I certainly wouldn’t watch two men killing fish to get a laugh

Life is hard for many people I think the Emmerdale story of modern day slavery should be brought to peoples attention many have no idea it’s even happening The April/Dylan drug and prostitution story is again very credible and needs showing so many young teens are involved in county lines etc etc
Corrie is running a story on relationship abuse again needs showing people often don’t believe abuse happens most often in the home always imagine it happens with strangers
The soaps are supposed to mirror real life not Cinderella and at the moment they are playing the parts well with good solid writing
Some parts are not so good but they have got it right at the moment
I can understand it upsets some people, so watch something else
Shinnamae there is a thread dedicated to Emmerdale
