Sounds interesting. I love a good play.

Anita Dobson and Nigel Havers ! Looking good so far and the crochet headbands got me laughing.

Jaxjacky Thu 13-Nov-25 21:22:50

Just turned it over, not for us this week.

Elrel Thu 13-Nov-25 21:49:41

Loving it!

Allira Thu 13-Nov-25 21:59:52

It got better, JaxJacky 😁

Better than some of the dreary, miserable programmes on TV these days.

Just boy-meets-girl stuff, but set in an old people’s home/retirement village. Unsympathetic characters.

I love the idea of a play for today, but I didn’t like this one.

The critics were damning. I don’t think I’ll bother.

BlueBelle Fri 14-Nov-25 06:33:37

Haven’t watched so I shouldn’t really comment but the thought of meeting in a old people home ( the very name gives me the heebie jeebies) doesn’t not make me want to watch

Calendargirl Fri 14-Nov-25 06:57:25

I watched the first half hour, then went to bed.

I shall probably watch the remainder, but not impressed.

Just rather silly and not at all realistic.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 14-Nov-25 07:47:11

It was easy viewing, had a twist.

Grandmabatty Fri 14-Nov-25 08:04:14

I read an interesting article about the original series and hadn't realised how many well known directors, writers and actors had been involved. I would hope that the new series does well. I'm not a fan of Nigel Havers(I've seen him on stage)nor Anita Dobson so I didn't bother with this one

Pittcity Fri 14-Nov-25 08:30:47

I was looking forward to it but found it hammy and predictable. Disappointed.

keepingquiet Fri 14-Nov-25 08:38:38

I thought it was a re-run of some of the old ones! I turned over when I realised it wasn't.

madeleine45 Fri 14-Nov-25 08:54:25

I thought it was a bit of fun, not brilliant but worth watching. At least there was something that was not a boring thing suppossedly made exciting by making it into a competition. Life looks more and more like the depression with people doing stupid things to win money etc. I am sick of houses being made up, expensive ingredients on cooking programmes and the sewing or knitting stuff. I do not intend to end up in a home, would rather be my stroppy self living the way I choose and listening to opera or whatever, but if I did end up in one, I would still be doing my own thing wherever possible , not joining in stuff like Bingo or eating things I hated.

Primrose53 Fri 14-Nov-25 09:13:45

It was predictable but I thought Anita Dobson played her part well alongside old charmer Nigel Havers. I still remember him in Corrie having a fling with Audrey.

I liked Cynthia’s new friend, Mary, who was madly in love with the bird man. The retirement home Manager was so like the Manager at my late Mum’s first care home that it was uncanny.

It made me laugh and was a change from murders, bomb blasts, unfunny modern comedies and boring cooking programmes.

It wasn't meant to be realistic. It was tongue-in-cheek.

I do get a bit fed up with too much gritty realism sometimes.

She seemed rather boring and proper - then she produced the hip flask 😁

Whitewavemark2 Fri 14-Nov-25 10:54:00

I think I will give this one a miss as I’m not keen on either actor - although I have just watched “A Horseman Riding By” with Havers as the lead character, and enjoyed it.

windmill1 Fri 14-Nov-25 10:59:02

One of the originals was "Nuts In May" with a very young Alison Steadman.

Different actors each week, Whitewave.
Each episode is a complete story.

Yes I appreciate that.

I will look at next weeks play and line up.

henetha Fri 14-Nov-25 11:33:12

I quite liked it, more than I thought I would. I enjoyed Anita and Nigel hamming it up. It made me laugh, a blessed relief from all the bad news in the world at the moment.

ginny Fri 14-Nov-25 11:38:16

Yes it was a bit ‘hammy ‘. but something a bit silly is quite a relief sometimes.

Exactly. that’s what I liked about her!

We found it quite humerous to watch. Anita Dobson was great - Nigel Havers has never struck me as having stage presence - he's just eye candy if he floats your boat!
