The posh accents are irritating. Trixie’s accent is now so posh that it sounds totally false. Rosalind is not so far behind. I can just about tolerate Sister Monica Joan because she is so old and has always spoken like that.

That made me laugh, not the poor man with BC, but the comment about Doctor Turner!

His awful gurning grins and weird facial expressions make him look like the sort of doctor you would see only as a last resort, if there was no one else available. (Of course, there is only him, he has the monopoly).

Gives him a really sinister, evil vibe.

In my experience they did dress like that. My Nan was dressing like Violet into the 1980s!

I wonder if Beryl will continue her life in the big wide world with Geoffrey’s help. I hope so but have a feeling she’ll be overwhelmed by guilt and return to the convent.

I agree with comments about Trixie’s accent. It’s more irritating in this series.

As far as Beryl and any turkey basters are concerned, did anyone else notice her mention that she was experiencing 'warm' moments? Menopause maybe? And perhaps next week's story?

Having worked as a nurse in a convent nursing home for many years, I felt the touching scene with Sister Monica Joan and Fred didn’t ring true last night.

He wouldn’t have had unsupervised access to the convent bedrooms and been able to visit her in bed. We had a middle aged man who worked in a similar role to Fred and was very highly thought of by the Sisters. But it would have been unthinkable for him to wander into their sleeping quarters.

It all just gets more and more twee - and I really love it!

I can't remember 1971 specifically, but certainly in 1973-75 the boys I was friends with in sixth form used to wear RAF surplus greatcoats, from the Army and Navy store.

Yes, Geoffrey and Beryl used a phrase (can’t remember what it was) that wasn’t around in 1971, I’m sure.

I also think Beryl is menopausal.

Timothy (Dr Turner Junior) still looks a bit wide eyed and naive somehow.

Also don’t think Beryl would be launching into bright red lipstick, manicures, hair do’s, so soon after leaving the convent, even under Trixie’s expert tutelage.

I was just about to start my midwifery in 1973, yes it is a bit twee but it is purely for entertainment not teaching. I love it!

When I was at college in 1973 an Irish nun decided to come out of her order. We returned from the Summer break to find her hair styled into a pretty neat curly perm (fashionable at the time), she wore round dangly earrings and bright pink lipstick. The change was quite dramatic. She was such a lovely person too.

Oh for goodness sake, it’s light TV, I enjoy it, I don’t care if it’s factually accurate and I can relax, not concentrate too hard and know it’s a light relief, not a documentary.
