New thread.

Oh, not a nice episode.

I wish they had made ‘Mal’ a bit more attractive.

He was most unfanciable.

Grannynannywanny Thu 29-Jan-26 21:38:17

I didn’t enjoy that episode at all. I’m wondering if Bernie and her new friend Mal are going to end up in hospital after ingesting a bad batch of drugs. I did begin to wonder if he was dead when Ryan came to the room.

We can now look forward to more gibberish and overacting from Dev when the story unfolds.

Charleygirl5 Thu 29-Jan-26 22:21:49

I thought Bernie's acting was very poor. Not a good episode.

Calendargirl Fri 30-Jan-26 07:33:33

And why was she fiddling about with her hairpiece when she was lying on the bed?

She was scratching the back of her head so much it made my own head itch!

Calendargirl Fri 30-Jan-26 07:37:13

Did Dev and Bernie ever get married properly?

I know they had some daft fake ceremony, but did they actually go to a register office and do it legally?

I seem to recall they did, but very low key as either Bernie or Dev was in a strop about something.

Still the most unlikely alliance in the chequered history of Corrie.

sodapop Fri 30-Jan-26 08:51:05

I don't think they were married legally either Calendargirl I seem to remember them exchanging rings but no registrar there. A more unlikely alliance I have yet to find.

Doodledog Fri 30-Jan-26 10:31:08

Corrie has been strange lately. Flashbacks, odd music, aerial views - a far cry from Ena and co in t'snug grin

I don't mind the odd flight of fancy, but on the whole I prefer it as a modern version of a 'kitchen sink drama'. I can do without gangsters and zombie policewomen prowling the streets, and prisoners' husbands persecuting Roy.

I guess they are hoping to attract another generation of viewers, but I'm not sure this modernisation will work - it's as likely to alienate the ones they've got, I think.

nanaK54 Fri 30-Jan-26 11:34:15

Yep agree with all of that Doodledog

I am marvelling at Bernie's capacity for booze and drugs - how many drinks did she consume?!

It was all very sad really and I am less than impressed that Sally and co just let her leave alone.

Could we please have some 'gentler' storylines - less angst all round would be good!

Doodledog Fri 30-Jan-26 11:46:09

Yes, we need something like the banter between Norris, Rita and Emily. That triangle was so well done - the different personalities and outlooks, and the work/domestic dynamics between them all made for real comedy, with very little plot movement. Nowadays it's all about plot, and the character nuances are less important.

Good to see Brody has transformed from uncontrollable bullying troublemaker to happy family member.

How convenient, ‘Mal’ being the electrician that Roy needed, and Roy quite willing to pay upfront for work to be done. I was fully expecting Roy to offer him accommodation as well.

The latest Bernie storyline is awful. Why does she not just talk to Dev like she did to Gemma, saying how she struggles at time with her grief?

And as for Theo cutting up Todd’s credit cards! What on earth has Todd been buying to spend several thousands on a newish card? And what about the car that Theo supposedly bought for him? Do they still have that? Why not sell it?

Todd certainly doesn’t look overjoyed at the thought of marriage, does he?

Charleygirl5 Sat 31-Jan-26 08:31:50

If they open a joint account I can't see Todd allowed any money and he will be begging for pocket money. I do wish Todd would wake up and run.

I also expected Roy to offer Mal accommodation. Is Roy losing his marbles, offering money in advance to a man he has never clapped eyes on before? I hope Mal doesn't stay.

Aveline Sat 31-Jan-26 08:47:13

I quite liked Mal. I must say I wondered what was wrong with Bernie. She wasn't that distraught when Paul died. Sad but not so overcome. All that drinking and clubbing and drugs just during true. Bottom line I just don't care about Bernie. She can leave any time.
Meanwhile, poor Dev doing his best.

Aveline Sat 31-Jan-26 08:47:35

Just didn't ring true

Bukkie Sat 31-Jan-26 10:03:12

I like Bernie. She is a flawed character and she is a great actress. I think she is trying so hard to be strong for everyone else she hasn't allowed herself to grieve for Paul. Billy dying has brought up all her emotions again. Gemma on the other hand is a one dimensional character. I know they try to portray her as uncouth but all this eating with her mouth open and being greedy with food is just unpleasant.

Calendargirl Sat 31-Jan-26 10:23:41

I don’t like Bernie.

Will Dev dump her?

Mal looks more her type.

Hope they both leave.

Doodledog Sat 31-Jan-26 11:52:32

I think the Bernie character has grown into herself recently. I’m not convinced by the raver side of her that keeps resurfacing, but she’s a lot more three dimensional than she used to be. She’s got so much to deal with. She realises she was an unfit mother, has lost her son, was rejected by Kit and now her lovely SIL has gone, too. She is trying to make up for being hopeless in the past, but needs to look out for herself as well as others, I think. Maybe not by dropping Es and picking up miscellaneous electricians though grin.

Dev was verging on bullying her. I know he was trying to help, but he was the same with Asha. He is so sure he’s right and just browbeats people into submission. He’s such a dreadful actor that it’s hard to know what is bad acting and what is his overbearing character though.

Aveline Sat 31-Jan-26 16:48:10

I'm stung by your comments Doodledog. I don't think he's bad actor. He's just doing what the writers want him too. He's still gorgeous though. I've gone back on him. I forgave him for being mean to Adhi.

Llamedos13 Sat 31-Jan-26 17:38:46

Aveline, Your defence of Dev always makes me chuckle.🤣

Sorry, Aveline. I always feel as though I should put caveats on anything critical of Dev grin.

Here he is, looking gorgeous - just for you.

Aveline Sat 31-Jan-26 19:23:11

Thank you so much! Be still my beating heart.♥️

Calendargirl

I really don’t think we need yet another baby brought into Corrie.

In the last year or so we’ve had Lauren’s Frankie, Dee Dee’s Laila, and now this baby of Meghan’s.

Plus Daisy, who I think lost a baby, and Fiz who had an abortion.

Too many.

Also Shona's whose name I have forgotten.
It draws the viewers.

Aveline Sun 01-Feb-26 08:15:34

Harper? After the doctor delivered her.

Calendargirl Sun 01-Feb-26 08:22:23

Doodledog and Aveline.

That photo just makes Dev look more manic than usual, if that’s possible.

😂

Charleygirl5 Sun 01-Feb-26 10:17:26

Sorry Aveline I am aware he is the love of your life, but he can't act and I can't stand him.

Aveline Sun 01-Feb-26 10:58:23

Of course he can act. You just don't like his character. Have you seen him in other roles? He's quite different.
