How do you pay your BBC TV Licence (if you do)

Until today monthly by DD but DH has just been awarded pension credit and is over 75 so I have transferred it to his name.....

Monthly direct debit, simple !

If you pay a larger amount in the first 6 months then that is YOUR extra money sitting in THEIR bank account earning interest so they get even more than you’re already paying them.

It is a secret whether or not the Royal family pay for a television licence. You can go to prison for not paying but once inside you can have a tv in your cell without needing a licence. Hotels only need one licence for the first 15 rooms and one every 5 subsequent rooms.

Yes, but my point is they take out double they need to the first 6 months of the year, so you are actually paying x 1.5 for the year. Presumably they told you this?

It is iniquitous that other channels can't be seen without a BBC licence. I refuse to pay them a brass farthing and haven't for a couple of years. We are paying for scandalous behaviour and outrageous salaries, which is being allowed.

I think you'll find that you need a TV licence even to watch ITV because you need one to watch ANY live TV even on Sky or Netfkix.

It is very confusing - when we're told it's a licence fee for the BBC - and then you think "Right - we're only paying for the BBC then and so that means the adverts on other channels are paying for them and we don't have to". Most odd.

Surely if they're saying "Ah but you're supposed to be paying for those other channels too" then they should remove the adverts.

Ah I've just been off and checked - and it is only for BBC. So - as long as we don't watch BBC (live or after the event) and we don't watch live on the other channels we're okay.

So one can just cut out BBC (live or otherwise) and only watch the other channels on non-live and we're sorted. So other channels whenever we please - as long as they're not live. Youtube whenever we please - as long as it's not live.

So it's worthwhile to check how much one actually watches BBC and wait to watch other channels until after the event.

I watch a lot of BBC programmes so consider the licence fee a bargain. I pay annually. After my ex and I split up and he moved out I didn't realise he'd taken the licence with him so was essentially illegal for a while. Thankfully I realised and took out a new one in my own name before I was prosecuted!

Monthly direct debit for years, I’d rather the money was in my account than theirs.

I pay for the licence by direct debit in one lump sum. It does annoy me that I feel obliged to pay it when I never watch live TV.

You only have to pay the first six months in advance for the first year and then it's just monthly from then on for as long as you have the direct debits. I've been paying mine this way for god knows how many years now. It's much easier and I can just forget about it.
I must admit though that I know a lot of people who no longer pay and I don't blame them at all with all the scandal going on at the BBC and the way they just brush it all under the carpet. Disgusting really, but they do do some very good drama lol

I love the BBC but deeply resent that I have to have a licence to use iPlayer then can’t watch Traitors until after everyone else has seen it, discussed it and done some spoiler alerting.

Probably being a bit dense but can’t you just watch it live?
