Utterly fantastic. If you missed it last night on BBC 2 do find in iplayer. What a gem.

I am very late to this, however I have to agree with those who found it both gentle and compelling. I watched every episode yesterday and loved them all. Such clever writing and excellent acting

We're a little late to the party too, but just finished watching it - very quirky but also very endearing. Definitely worth seeking it out if you've not seen it yet.

I've watched it all. Absolutely charming.

Bit late to this party! What a phenomenal piece of tv.
Binge watched the whole series tonight. Worth the licence fee alone. Can’t wait for the next series.

Binge watched this and it was brilliant. Unique and magically heartwarming.

Binge watched the last four episodes earlier today, magical, we loved Detectorists too.

I didn’t actually notice the buckets first time round!

That's hilarious!
I've watched it all twice now. I don't understand how anyone could think the actor playing Michael was "wooden".

I think it needs watching twice because there are so many things going on sometimes I didn’t pick up on some of them. And the things I did pick up on I can’t stop thinking about. Pure genius.

Detectorists is just the same; layers upon layers; minute and subtle details perfectly reminding you of something that was once familiar but forgotten.

I loved it and watched it over 2 nights. Told a friend to watch it. They said they did not like it after two episodes and gave up on it.

I thought it was very boring and the acting of the main character very wooden. I gave up after one episode. But my DD and family loved it and binge watched the whole series.

Did you not like the music?

I am sure you are all riveted to know that me and my husband have started on the detectorists first...

It’s really important to watch it before being exposed to spoilers, though, as everyone is talking about it.

I decided to watch it all. It really is wonderful. It was so nice to watch something with such a lovely male lead character.

We are also working our way through the detectorists and again, such likeable, positive characters smile

I suppose that only BBC would fund making programmes like this. I couldn't see any of the commercial streaming companies supporting this sort of show.

madeleine45 Tue 17-Feb-26 07:48:01

Yes a very cheering gentle programme last night. Just what the doctor ordered.

Bridie22 Tue 17-Feb-26 07:32:30

Brilliant series, cant wait for series 2.

MayBee70 Tue 17-Feb-26 00:25:00

Having binge watched it, it came on tonight and I started watching episode two ( I am going to be rewatching it all at least once) and realised how many things I hadn’t noticed first time round. It’s so multi layered. I feel sorry for anyone working in a do it yourself store at the moment because they must be being bombarded with catch phrases.

Faxgran Mon 16-Feb-26 22:55:57

Watched it all. Utterly brilliant and beautiful.

JaneJudge Sun 15-Feb-26 14:15:59

Ohhhh sad Maybe I should watch it in secret ?

I've skipped to the end of the thread to say that I am adoring this show. Terrified to read any comments as to 'spoilers'.
And yes I'm on a breakgrin

Can anyone tell me if the lady from the Open University who was in the last episode also appeared earlier in the series? I think she did but can't remember when. (I might just be confused as this actress is appearing in lots of things at the moment)

I think she only turned up at the end.

She's the annoying media person in Patience and I briefly confused the two roles!

vegansrock Sun 15-Feb-26 08:06:46

We enjoyed this, it was certainly different! The end of the last episode said to be continued…so I’m assuming there will be another series. Im guessing they still have the recipe…so can make more of the homunculi, but they were heading off for a new life. Interesting to see what happens.
