Apparently he is standing down to concentrate on his writing, but will be replaced. The new presenter hasn't been named yet - any guesses or suggestions?
I record this show, and watch it every weekday after my evening meal, so hope I will still enjoy it. I would love Claudia to take over but I am sure she will be far too busy to do so. It needs someone with a bit of banter and humour.

Flippinheck - I've only read the first of his books and that was more than enough.

I enjoy the program and the relaxed format. I really hope it's not Alexander Armstrong!

gwyneth28 Wed 04-Mar-26 18:32:47

I don't like Claudia Winkleman, she was a reason I stopped watching Strictly, very over powering, I've never watched Traitors either, I know lots of people like her

It would need to be someone who, like Richard, doesn't put themselves in the limelight, speaks quietly and never ridicules the contestants (who are often, ridiculously stupid. And being on camera should be no excuse for those "celebrities")

There are probably several who fit the bill, but we may not have heard of them, just because they do keep themselves in the background.

You have obviously missed/ don’t get some of his put downs.
They are worded so cleverly most contestants miss it.
They will either have to find someone who can read the translation game, or scrap it 😂

Yes Petra, but other perfumes are available. . . .

Lots of comments with pointless (?!) speculation. It's a pretty good gameshow, with some interesting rounds. Osman has a mass of showbiz contacts, and is a very shrewd guy, so I doubt his replacement will be awful.

Grandma29 Wed 04-Mar-26 19:16:54

Please not Alison Hammond.
Love House of Games and Richard Osman who in my opinion was the best presenter for this quiz.

Commonground Wed 04-Mar-26 19:21:41

I think Ed Gamble would be the perfect replacement.

House Of Games is the only program that I watch as it is on tv . I do not record it or watch on catch up . I can’t read his books though . I tried the first one but had to give up half way through. They are awful .

I have never liked RO. As an ex professional editor, having seen so many talented people have their excellent manuscripts rejected by the big publishing houses, I resent the way in which he got a lucrative publishing contract. Had he been ‘Joe Bloggs’ his novels would never have been supported. The publishers rely on his fame to sell the books, rather than the quality of the story.

The thing is, any author is only successful if they have continued readership surely?

If people are continuing to buy RO’s books then it must be because they enjoy them, which suggests to me that they like his style.

(I’m assuming he writes his own books, as I know some people have ghost writers, but I don’t think that’s the case with RO).

I'm sorry to hear that RO is leaving HoG, I think he's the perfect fit for this clever quiz show. Each round is very different and well put together, my favourite is Answersmash.

I can't think of a suitable replacement?

Publishers may have realised that the excellent manuscripts would not have sold because they would not appeal to the general public, however worthy they were.

After all, publishers are in the business to sell books and make money.

Me too.
I watch live, not on catch up
And really can’t stand his books
Glad it’s not just me
Although did enjoy The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix

I hope his replacement is Alexander Armstrong

They've announced Michael Sheen as the host of 100 new episodes.

BlueBelle Mon 16-Mar-26 14:53:42

Don’t think I know Michael Sheen but anyway I don’t like Game of Thrones so won’t be watching

JackyB Sun 22-Mar-26 19:27:52

I would have thought Michael Sheen was far too busy to do it. I realise they film the episodes all in one go, not spread over five days, but all the same....

I would have thought so too, he’s a brilliant actor.
I will certainly continue watching if he is the presenter 😃

@#£%&

I don't think Michael Sheen was in Game of Thrones, but I never watch(ed) it. He was brilliant and utterly convincing as David Frost, Tony Blair and Kenneth Williams.

Oreo Sun 22-Mar-26 19:48:57

…and Brian Clough.
No he wasn’t in GOT or surely I would have noticed, having watched it in its entirety 🤔

indispensableme Sun 22-Mar-26 20:51:40

Sorry that RO is leaving, please can we not have Romesh Ranganathan who seems to get where water can't, as my late Dad would say.

Jaxjacky Sun 22-Mar-26 20:59:59

I like RO and his books.
I admire Michael Sheen, he’ll be great.

Casdon Sun 22-Mar-26 21:22:15

I agree Jaxjacky. Michael Sheen is an amazing actor, and a good man, he’s got a dry sense of humour. I think he will be excellent, although how he will find the time I don’t know, he’s put his own money into keeping the National Theatre of Wales going, and is heavily involved with that too.

Deedaa Mon 23-Mar-26 00:04:57

I only dip into HOG occasionally but I will have to watch regularly now just to hear Michael Sheen's voice.

I love Richard's books. He just seems to think along the same lines as me, although I do find myself feeling very much like Joyce in the books. I have the same tendency to try and impress my daughter and, like Joyce's daughter, she rarely notices!

MollyNew Mon 23-Mar-26 18:39:37

If Michael Sheen is going to do it, he should be very good. He's got a great sense of humour and is a fabulous actor - Frost/Nixon is my favourite of his films. I enjoyed the comedy he did with David Tennant during Covid. I think it was called "Staged".
