Ditto re Hamnet the book …thought the film ending better than the book tho!

Finished it today and I loved it too. I can't help thinking Mrs Bennett was just a bit too spiteful to Mary though. But what on earth happened to Darcy? he didn't utter a word and hid behind his newspaper when he wasn't having a 'seasonal headache' and escaping from the family gatherings. I know he couldn't stand Mrs Bennett but surely as a man of decorum, he wouldn't have shunned all of the visitors, he'd have made the effort for good manners sake?

And he looked hideous!

Im enjoying this. I can't help thinking Ella Buccoleri makes me think of Patricia Rutledge, a young version of course.

DH a fan as well..... Who knew?

I haven't read the novel, but found this a clever and enjoyable spin-off from P and P. I rather liked Donal Finn as Mr Hayward.

There is an exhibition of some of the costumes from the series at Dyffryn House in the Vale of Glamorgan. Some scenes were filmed there.

I enjoyed the whole series so much. It was delightful, and like TheSunRisesInTheEast, I had a smile on my face throughout.

Programmes like this are the reason I'd be upset if the BBC lost its licence.

Lark Rise to Candleford is great, until they leave the books behind,.

I loved it and smiled like a Cheshire cat through most of it 😁. I love period dramas, they are total escapism, I loved Upstairs
Downstairs as a little girl, it fascinated me.

They are in total contrast to how we live now, like another world, I hope you enjoy it.

I agree, I love period dramas too, I just watched Cranford again and I am going to watch Lark Rise To Candleford next.

Lark Rise to Candleford is true, but names and place names have been changed. Poetic licence has been used.

I will say no more, but enjoy it.

I watched the last 4 episodes late last night/early morning on my phone as I can't get my stupid smart TV to work.
I enjoyed it very much.

There were times when it was just today's young folk cavorting around in fancy dress most unsuitable for hill climbing but a delightful story. What perfect casting for Mary.

Earlier in the evening I had been at an interesting talk about the servants of Traquair from 17th - 20th centuries, by their archivist who has devoted 35 years to researching the residents of Scotland's oldest inhabited house.

There's to be an exhibition by Margaret Fox at the house soon.
I can highly recommend a visit. They even do B&B

Why does Mr Bennett always get let off for his total indifference to the future of his wife and daughters. Mrs Bennett did what she had to for her daughters. Read Longbourn for an interesting take on what was going on in the wider world.

With all the doom, gloom and uncertainty in the world, it's good to be transported back in time. Modern life can be draining 🫤.

I finished the series today. Binge watched the last 3 episodes and thoroughly enjoyed it. Such good acting from all the main characters. Ruth Jones (Nessa/Mrs Bennet) was brilliant. Pure escapism and I thought it was splendid!

Well I enjoyed it. I watched the last two episodes tonight. I watched it on my iPad while OH watched a film about a man-eating shark in the Seine. I think I got the better deal.

«Ah kent his faither» is such a Scottish saying, so it seems that « mither» applies equally.

What makes you think I didn’t enjoy it (apart from the fact that it’s a better tv adaptation than book! )

Are you missing that because we all see our family dynamics very differently from our own siblings, the characters of her family when seen through Mary’s eyes are very different to the original book? It took me a little while to get my head round that, but I think it adds a different dimension to the original now - I’d never really thought before about how casually dismissive everybody was of her.
