The BBC have sacked him due to his ‘personal conduct’.
It all seems very swift, lessons learnt maybe.

Allira Mon 30-Mar-26 12:38:38

I wasn't sure who he is so looked him up. He won Race Across the World, that's where I recognised him from. He seemed a pleasant bloke as far as I remember.

What has he allegedly done, I wonder?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 30-Mar-26 12:47:24

Oh no! I really like him, what on earth has he done?

BlueBelle Mon 30-Mar-26 12:52:12

Well I ll have to google him as I ve never heard of him

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 30-Mar-26 12:54:05

Never heard of him but sacked, not suspended pending investigation? Says something.

Fallingstar Mon 30-Mar-26 12:54:18

Don’t know him but is the BBC again. The establishment doesn’t have a lot of luck when it comes to hiring people who don’t end up disgracing themselves.
Still, with no further info I suppose I can’t really say much about this case.

His face is on all the Asda shopping trollies advertising his Radio 2 breakfast programme.

kittylester Mon 30-Mar-26 13:04:32

I don't know what he is accused of but am glad he is not in Radion 2 any more.

Visgir1 Mon 30-Mar-26 13:04:37

I can listen to R2 in the morning's again, he was a complete turn off for me.
He's obviously done something very wrong to get him booted out that quick.
Interesting comments on MN about it.

Aveline Mon 30-Mar-26 13:16:58

My goodness. Out and out sacked! Blimey he must have said or done something awful for such summary justice. It's quite hard to a sack people these days.
He was OK on the breakfast show and better than that gushing Zoe but no replacement for Terry

Cossy Mon 30-Mar-26 13:35:42

The news doesn’t report was he’s done, simply “personal conduct”

MartavTaurus Mon 30-Mar-26 14:04:38

Oh? Why?
I quite liked him on RATW. Not so much his partner.

twiglet77 Mon 30-Mar-26 14:25:40

Wow!

I dislike him as a presenter, though Radio 2 has very few left that I do like. I enjoy listening to Gary Davies, so I hope he’ll be on at breakfast for a while.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 30-Mar-26 14:56:29

Apparently he was sacked over an historic male relationship
🤷‍♀️

The BBC are not likely to dither about if any allegations have been made against him. They have hardly covered themselves with glory with previous similar episodes.

Grannynannywanny Mon 30-Mar-26 15:06:56

When I read the BBC online news earlier his sacking was the news headline. Trump threatening to obliterate Iran’s energy facilities if a deal is not reached shortly had been knocked off the main headline to make way for the Scott Mills story.

I'd said to son earlier I bet it's historic, why don't these people make allegations at the time ,why wait ? and if it's not proven to be true then what,I abhor this coming out of the woodwork stuff

Agree somewhat. It is much easier to prove or disprove if it's recent, and also society changes & what was acceptable if disreputable, becomes illegal / unacceptable. Although this must've been a serious allegation going by the sacking.

I understand there are many reasons why victims don't come forward at the time but in the interests of fairness I wish they would.

Magenta8 Mon 30-Mar-26 16:59:22

I think the reason people don't come forward at the time is often because the climate of opinion at the time of the incident meant that at best they would not be listened to and at worst blamed for stirring up trouble or even not believed and seen as the perpetrator not the victim.

Many more historic claims of abuse were reported at the time but not followed up for the reasons given above.

Casdon Mon 30-Mar-26 17:20:33

I’m not convinced that it’s a historic case, unless something earth shattering evidence has come forward very recently, because, like other employers, the BBC would have to suspend a member of staff pending investigation if new information from a victim came forward, until it was fully investigated and verified. People are usually only summarily dismissed, which this sounds like, in the event of gross misconduct.

There can be any number of reasons why a victim may not come forward at the time - and attitudes like this don't help.

Flippin2 Mon 30-Mar-26 22:16:58

If you don't come forward at the time you prevent this from happening again, I don't have an attitude, I speak from experience,if something has happened report it there and then

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 30-Mar-26 22:59:04

It’s an historic case Casdon. Further reports are breaking in the news tonight.

BlueBelle Tue 31-Mar-26 06:55:02

Flippin2 you ve got it wrong you are jumping into make believe land It not only was reported at the time but went to court It appears he was accused of raping a teenager ten years ago and it went to court, it was dropped through lack of evidence at the time. (According to the latest news)
However if it has been a court case the BBC must have known but not considered it important when they hired him so bigger fools them
I m sure more will come out People aren’t always what they seem

Like I said, there can be any number of reasons why someone might not report an incident at the time. Some may well have tried to say something at the time and not been believed. And yes, I'm speaking from experience too.
