I am just finishing watching a BBC2 programme on Miriam Margoyles.
Such a brilliant actor of course .... but the rest if it? What do people think?

Rosie Being well educated doesn’t excuse any bad behaviour, I think we have to put the sexual squeezing episode into context, no it’s not right, should never have happened, but I’m guessing it was done in the same awful spirit as the many many men who “gropped” women in those days. I not excusing this behaviour.

I think anyone who manages to make it into Oxbridge and then actually graduate is worth “bigging up”, it doesn’t make those of us who didn’t any “less”, but it’s certainly a great achievement.

but I’m guessing it was done in the same awful spirit as the many many men who “gropped” women in those days.

And many of those men are now being punished for that historical abuse, even though it 'was of that time'. Do you think she should suffer the same as those men? If not, why not?

Rosie I don’t know tbh, very very few men who “gropped” women are being brought to justice!

Do I think what she did was ok? Definitely not, do I think she should be “brought to justice”? Frankly I don’t know! Has the man is question been to the police? If yes, then she should be interviewed, if no…….. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Who cares what level of education someone has had, or where they gor it. It is no excuse for rude, vulgar and course language and behaviour.

Standards of acceptable behaviour are a society norm not an educational norm.

Historic cases of sexual abuse at the BBC are being investigated now and not swept under the carpet as they were.
Why should a woman be treated differently from a man? 🤔

I love her, she's definitely my level of crude and vulgar... I know I'd have a brilliant time with her at a party.

I like her, people know what they are getting with Mirium, you choose to watch or you switch off.
People are different what offends some does offend others. We have a choice.

LucyAnna5 Wed 15-Apr-26 12:16:31

Someone being groped doesn’t have much choice…….

Secondwind Thu 16-Apr-26 09:29:11

I never held her in particularly high regard because of her foul language.
My mind was changed when I watched the TV programme about her Dickens-themed Christmas celebration and really enjoyed it.

I’m certainly not defending her with this, no one should be groped or touched without permission, whoever you are and whoever is doing it, it’s wrong on all levels.

Just going to mention this. I watched it. I think she managed the meal without any vulgarity 😂

Allsorts

I didn't watch it, I find her vulgar and crude.

My thoughts exactly. I can't understand why this charmless individual is given any airtime, quite frankly.

I am always puzzled as to why a lesbian is so fascinated by male genitalia.

Cardamom Thu 16-Apr-26 12:37:17

Curiosity? Luckygirl3 Being gay doesn't cancel it out.

MrsSquirrel Thu 16-Apr-26 14:18:29

I'm not sure she really is interested in male genitalia, it's just that dick jokes get laughs. It's a cheap laugh, but lots of comedians tell them, especially male comedians.

To humiliate?

I find it odd that such an intelligent woman adopts such a bizarre public persona (I've no idea what she's like when she's not in front of a camera). She seems to only have extremes of good sense and nonsense. Possibly she just fell into this way of self promotion and now it's expected.

I agree wholeheartedly with MOnica on this issue.

Have known several highly educated, upper class folk over the years whose language would make a sailor blush.

Remember one in particular, a father who would occasionally collect his daughter from our pricey, private school nursery.
Head had to have a word about his language around the children on more than one occasion.

Allira Fri 17-Apr-26 15:24:23

What got you started?
"You're born with the performing gene. I was a show-off at school, so it was inevitable I would become an actress."

Who or what have you sacrificed for your art?
"Nothing at all. I have lived an entirely egotistical life, for myself alone."
Miriam Margolyes speaking to a reporter in 2011.

I imagine as a child she may have been rather like Violet Elizabeth Bott.

FranP Fri 17-Apr-26 23:19:39

Vulgar, outrageous, but hugely amusing

keepingquiet Fri 17-Apr-26 23:33:44

She is without a filter and has got away with saying things a man of her age wouldn't get away with saying.

Not my cup of tea at all.

nanna8 Sat 18-Apr-26 01:11:21

She reminds me a bit of Germs Greer , just saying things to shock for the sake of it. Boring.

Usedtobeblonde Sat 18-Apr-26 05:32:41

I wonder how many people today know about Violet Elizabeth Bott, just curious.
“ I’ll scream and scream until I’m sick” iPad won’t let me lisp!!😗

She is a marmite person. I must admit that I am not keen but DH thinks she is fantastic!
