We looked at it this evening but didn’t stay with it. Anyone seen it and enjoyed it? Perhaps we should have persevered with it.

I tried, but only lasted about 15 mins. Not for me.

I thought it was trying to be clever but left me completely uninterested.

I only watched it because I know the area it was filmed in. I hadn't a clue what was going on though.!!

It is a bit weird, agreed. I’ve watched 3 episodes and I’ll keep it up. TBH Organised Crime/gangs do interest me. But the part where the man makes a father & son beat each other up and the spectators were enjoying it, did make my flesh creep. I had to look away

I watched this because I loved the director’s wonderful first feature film “Scrapper”. The film is currently on iPlayer and I heartily recommend it. A 12yr old girl whose mother has died is determined to keep going on her own. One day her hopeless father turns up and tries to do the right thing. It’s uplifting, with great performances.

As for Mint, I’m not enjoying it much so far, feeling the director has maybe not made a successful transition from the big screen - it’s just too filmic for me. I shall persevere a while longer though!

Yes, we binged it in 2 sessions on iPlayer. It’s not an easy watch but the story is good and portrayed in an unusual way. We thought it was worth persevering with.

Presentation, filming etc is unusual/random but the storyline is good/unexpected and will almost certainly result in a further ‘season’. It is definitely worth persevering with it.

Gave up when father and son were made to fight - horrible! Could not watch more even if the overall story is good.

I've watched 3 episodes but not sure I will carry on with it.

Yes - a demanding watch but I enjoyed it - have only watched the first two episodes so far. A "take" on the story of Romeo and Juliet apparently.

I watched the first 2 episodes and didn’t think much of it, to be honest. Not sure whether I’m going to persevere with it or not. Probably not!

Thats what I thought …it was trying to be too clever with all the dream? Sequences..well I assume thats what they were…I did stick with it and it got better…I had already worked out what was going on with the husband..So stayed with it to see if I was right..

Kats2 Sun 26-Apr-26 17:35:35

It would have been better if they had explained why that was going to happen.. Although you do find out much later on why…I found it strange that the wife seemed ok with it.. doubt she would have been so happy if it was her husband and son.l

Has anyone watched Trying on BBC iplayer?
If not, give it a try! The acting and storyline are just wonderful.
Rafe Spall & Esther Smith are the wonderful lead actors.
Well worth watching!!!

Oh yes, Trying is a gem!
But as for Mint, I gave up after 10 minutes. Just too weird and I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

I’ve realised that I watched 4 episodes of Trying and then stopped and there are now two more series. I seem to remember liking it but don’t know why I stopped. I may have to start watching Mint because I’ve realised that Lindsay Duncan is in it and I tend to watch most things that she’s in. Although I can’t quite get my head around the fact that she and I are both now pretty old (how did that happen?).

I enjoyed Mint it was really a Romeo and Juliet story. The point to the father- son fight becomes clear in the final episode. Yes it was a bit too arty but I think the final episode brought the strands together in a clever way.

There’s a new series of Only Child starting tonight. I really liked the first series.
