Ordinary U.K. garden, incredible footage of many different kinds of bees, most of which I’d never heard of. FWell worth a watch.

Bee-utiful filming, sorry couldn't resist. I found it quite emotional.
The Secret Garden series is beyond lovely too, at times reminding me of Wind in the Willows with such gentle scenes and poignant moments smile. Our gardens are so very badly needed by all of the pollinators and creatures now.

Thanks. Something else that I hadn’t noticed ( so much to see these days…I’m binge watching all 4 series of Beyond Paradise). I have watched one episode of Secret Gardens and will watch the others.

I was trimming my rosemary this week.
Naturally there are always bees feeding on it but this time I spotted 4 different bees.
We are seeing a lot of ladybirds at the moment.

Absolutely wonderful programme. I've always been fascinated by bees. I often stop for ages watching a bee at work rather than getting on with my garden. I also learnt watching that programme that certain insects that I hadn't put down as being bees were.

Fascinating.
I used to keep honey bees, but was also most interested in the other types of bees.

There are over 270 different species of bees in the UK.
David Attenborough - Secret Garden.

Another lovely programme this evening.

I thought it was an amazing programme. What patience and commitment you must have to film all that. The man who filmed it also made a film called The Birds which was absolutely mesmerising. Also on iPlayer.

I'll look out for it.

I’ve realised now that I caught the tail end of it a few weeks ago whilst channel hopping but didn’t know if it was a film or a series. I must make a point of making some bee houses in my garden. My front garden is very bee friendly at the moment. Nothing I plant there seems to grow but plants trees and bushes seem to self seed and I never know what’s going to spring up. I was away for a few weeks and was amazed at what had grown in my absence. I did have to dig out a yew that had self seeded the other year. I think it must be a haven for insects as it is covered in pine cones and the fence is covered in ivy.

Sat and watched it yesterday evening.

Absolutely delightful. Full respect for Nicky and her companions. I always have circular cuts in my roses every year, but have never sat to watch, likewise I see patches of sawdust on the ground.

What a glorious world.

I will watch it, it sounds very interesting. I hadn't realized that there were so many different species of bees.

I found this programme purely by chance when I was scrolling through iPlayer and loved every minute of it. I assume it was made during the Covid years, possibly a lockdown project for the film maker. What a way to use those days when we couldnt leave our homes! It was so uplifting to see a whole world of interest in one fairly urban back garden. I went straight out the next day to try and identify the bees in our garden and to my great delight found several Ashy mining bees building burrows in some compacted earth near our shed.

I think he said he made it because he was getting older and wasn’t being offered the sort of work that he used to do.
