Our song for Eurovision

Although I have zero interest in this competition, is it just me or does it seem bizarre that the song chosen to represent our country has the first three words in German?

Cossy Fri 15-May-26 10:12:23

I’ve not even heard it, I don’t know the song or the person or people singing it!

I quite enjoy Eurovision, simply for the comic value, and I truly miss Sir Tel as our presenter. He had me in stitches.

Bazza Fri 15-May-26 10:33:04

I used to watch it just for his commentary. Much missed.

MartavTaurus Fri 15-May-26 10:34:45

Bonkers! A typical UK eccentric on the loose!
Sounds a bit shouty shouty to me, but what do I know?

I guess eins, zwei, drei maybe hits the spot more than a romantic un, deux, trois in his bouncy delivery.

He lived and worked in Germany if that makes any difference, and the contest is in German speaking Vienna. But what do I know again!?

It will either do incredibly well or will sink like a stone.

I miss Terry as well. Graham Norton doesn't do a bad job but he'll never match Terry.

I had a friend who would throw a party every year. She'd dress up in the host country's national dress and prepare food from that country as well

She was quite obsessed. Sadly she died a couple of years ago so now we shall watch in a more sedate fashion.

It's so bad it could do well. It is different, is there any value in doing anything substantial, we will only get Nil points, worth a go, going totally bonkers, Hope he does OK.

BlueBelle Fri 15-May-26 11:10:16

No idea who or what our song or singer is, I have very little interest in it No idea why Australia and Israel are in EUROvision that seems totally bizarre to me. The whole thing is just screamy and bonkers and to me it should be entitled ‘ ‘Who can be the weirdest’
And ….I ve got to miss Casualty

Aveline Fri 15-May-26 11:18:18

Lots of European countries boycotting it anyway due to Israel's inclusion.

Fallingstar Fri 15-May-26 11:40:19

I remember when Katie Boyle presented the Eurovision. We watched it then. And when the inimitable Terry Wogan presented it. After that we stopped watching.

When I saw him explaining the eins, zwie, drie the audience were in raptures. 🤷‍♀️

DD used to host a family Eurovision party which was always great fun but now the DGCs have all moved away we just message each other.
Not the same but I expect there will be the usual family sweepstake which I never win 😂

I saw an interview with this young man on the television , this morning. The interviewer said he said he was charismatic. I thought he was downright bizarre. Never stopped talking or moving. I think the song is awful. Nil pointe again probably.

Jaxjacky Fri 15-May-26 16:34:00

I think it’s very catchy, but having never watched Eurovision, I won’t start now.

Cossy Fri 15-May-26 16:58:14

The bonkers the better, it’s Eurovision, the show of all things bizarre.

I love Eurovision but I’m boycotting it this year, too. Which saddens me.

kittylester Fri 15-May-26 17:41:48

I love it. I think it's catchy too and I thought he had quite an appealing personality.

lixy Fri 15-May-26 20:23:29

I like it too kittylester and find myself singing along.

I heard Sam Battle being likened to a bee in a matchbox today. That sums up his buzzy energy perfectly I think.
The song is about being liberated from a dull, boring job.

No expectations here because of the politics, but I hope he does well.

Basgetti Fri 15-May-26 20:28:52

If it’s the young man in pink jumpsuit with 80s haircut on today’s lunchtime news (had to have it on silent), hoping it’s a very, very good song!

SpinDriftCoastal Sat 16-May-26 07:22:50

I'll watch it till 9 o'clock and then retire to my book.

JamesandJon33 Sun 17-May-26 07:19:49

As predicted. And why is it still called the Eurovision Song Contest. Is Australia in Europe ?

BlueBelle Sun 17-May-26 07:38:38

Well Kittylester looks like you’re in the minority of one as according t the news this morning ( no I didn’t watch it ) we came last with one point Did you vote ? 🤣🤣🤣what a farce

Well you naysayers were way off the mark!

One point to us!
grin
🎉🎉🎉

merlotgran Sun 17-May-26 09:31:07

I thought it was a catchy song as well and no worse than a lot of the others.
I thought either Italy or Israel would win.

Once again I went to bed muttering, ‘Why do I watch such crap?’ 😂

nanna8 Sun 17-May-26 09:40:32

Apparently SBS, one of our free broadcasters in Australia, is a member of the European Broadcasting Union. That’s the reason. Nuts. They broadcast things in many different languages from many different countries. I don’t think we are part of Europe.n

TerriBull Sun 17-May-26 09:46:33

I say this every year, why don't we withdraw from this farce given the voting is strategic and political. On the world stage of music, for a small country we punch well above our weight, we have massively left our mark, maybe a reason for being right at the bottom, as a country, musically we have achieved a level of success most of these countries could only dream about. I haven't heard the song so maybe coming last is justified. The only enduring talent to have come out of Eurovision were ABBA, years ago. Most acts sink without trace.
