What channel is it on?

It was on C4 at 8pm last Sunday 2/08.

Thanks. I can’t get it on my tv any more but will watch it on my iPad. I hadn’t realised he’d made a new series: I loved his last one about books. And I love him, too. Such a lovely person.

62Granny - I agree and thought that he'd finally remove his jacket and scarf when he attempted to make the tile. Maybe him and his luggage got separated in flight and he literally had just the clothes on his back

I enjoyed the first episode but there can't have been much cooking going on if Richard kept his jacket and scarf on! The programme made me want to go to Malta again, I haven't been since I was a teenager with my parents.

The trailer for the next episode showed Richard in shirtsleeves so the weather must have picked up somewhat!

Have been recording this but haven't actually watched any episode yet. I like him and loved his series' visiting fabulous hotels. So good at interviewing people and eliciting gossip about recent VIP guests. Spent many a sleepless night watching these programmes in the early hours.

Yes it’s good. I liked his series about the impressionists too.

It’s Odyssey and I’m afraid I just think it’s another celeb cashing in on the renewed interest in The Odyssey because of the film.
Any resemblance to Homer is entirely accidental .
Yes he may be easy on the eye and I have always rather liked Richard E Grant, but how many celebs do we have to endure enjoying a jolly at the viewers’ expense.
Dan Snow, a few weeks ago is a genuine historian and did actually base his programme on Odysseus /Homer, but this is just self-indulgent.

I agree when it comes to celebs cashing in on things (just had to turn off the latest Susan Calman cruising programme)But not in the case of Richard E Grant who I think is a national treasure and is just a thoroughly lovely person, very self effacing. I remember how chuffed he was with his Oscar nomination the other year and genuinely said he wasn’t bothered about winning. He’s just lost his dear friend Sam Neill who helped him through the loss of his wife a few years ago.

I don’t think I have ever seen him, outside of an acting role, without a scarf.

The leather jacket and scarf is his trademark garb.
And it also means that continuity problems can be avoided.

No one is forcing you to watch.

I'd rather enjoy the charismatic personality and dulcet tones of REG any day of the week than listen to some old academic f**t's boring monotonous tones.

Indeed nobody is forcing me to watch and I have not watched it (other than the trailers which can be hard to avoid)
However
That neither negates my opinion about actors/ singers/ comedians/presenters and all their buddies cashing in from other fields and often disastrously attempting to present a travel programme of their own, nor necessitates “lightening up”.
Sue Perkins in the Mekong, Susan Calman (anywhere) Celebrities who like to travel (Joanna Lumley); celebrities who don’t like to travel (Romesh Ranganathan); celebrities travelling for food (Stanley Tucci); celebrities travelling for adventure (Griff Rhys Jones); celebrities travelling with their parents or children (Jack Whitehall and his dad, Bradley Walsh and his son).
Some are excellent, others less so but it is not a guarantee of success or a worthwhile hour.
As Homer says in The Odyssey, “My words”

Yes this. He seems a gentle, self effacing man, and his programme is about more than about the Odyssey.

Malta looks so different to what I have always imagined. That cathedral!!

I haven’t watched this weeks - Sicily - but it is an island I know and love - when it isn’t too hot😊

I worked as a nanny in Catania for a very short time. My bedroom balcony was just below Mount Etna. The surrounding landscape was black from previous eruptions ending in the sea. A beautiful experience. Whilst ironing in the basement, I could pick lemons from the garden.

I lived in Malta for three years and never needed a 🧣 scarf. Richard E Grant obviously feels comfortable in a scarf.

I realise I did not cover them ALL these were meant to be representative examples.
The Kemps,father and son together in Ireland , seem to be the latest iteration.
Do programme producers not value originality or do they see one (successful ) idea and just churn out copy after copy?

In Sicily the leather jacket was nowhere in evidence.

I looooove Sicily and Palermo and the food is to die for.

This is such a decent series.

I must say his pub walks series was lovely; he was actually much better than Bill Bailey who I love. . It's good to have a series in which men talk about their feelings.I wasn't actually a fan of his prior to watching it and hadn't realised he had a son who was autistic. I only caught it whilst channel hopping but ended up watching the whole series.

I’ve been watching this. It’s so relaxing, chilled out and makes me feel like travelling in Europe again.
