Access to BBC iplayer

I have a Humax box which I use for players and recording/watching. According to the pop up message, viewing the iplayer through the Humax will be discontinued from October. Very annoying! The Channel 4 player has already gone!

That's what happened with our tv digibox. No ITV or Channel 4 catch-up. When we changed it for a new one, the catch-ups returned.

MayBee70, it's most likely your TV box, not your TV.

My Humax is almost five years old and I am getting the same message but it doesn't matter as I always stream though my smart TV and only use the Humax for recording and playback.

If you look at the message (captured from my TV) it tells you to go to bbc.in/nextsteps where it explains what's changing and why and what options you have.

You don't have to buy a new TV (unless you feel you'd like one anyway) and can use a Fire stick as others have suggested.

It doesn't sound like Maybee's TV is Smart.

It's less expensive to buy a new Smart TV than a new Humax if you only want a smaller HD set.

Your tv isn’t set up correctly if you have to sign into streaming Chanel’s everytime.
The iplayer Re licence is for a purpose. If you were to answer yes when you didn’t have a licence you wouldn’t be able to view iplayer.

This gives all the info we need, except that it gives some Humax models which will work, then later says they won't!

Amazon fire stick should solve this.
But TV 's they say need updating every about 5-8 years, most folk I know don't do that.
It's the same with phones, my DH smart phone now won't update certain Apps, as the phone is too old (about 5 years)

It’s pretty old. Inherited from my son. To be honest I could do with replacing it with one that can access other catch-ups but it’s attached to a Humax box that I’ve got recordings on and also a dvd/video player ( I still watch DVD’s). Why does everything change all the time ?

I have the same, a non-smart TV (with an Amazon firestick), a BT Humax box and a DVD player.

These currently all work together but the problem when you buy something new is the connections. It can be a nasty shock if things don't connect with each other. Modern TVs are unlikely to have a scart socket for instance (the big one with lots of spikes).

You new TV needs to be able to talk to your old DVD player and this may be tricky. It may require new leads which can transfer signals. So unless you can understand all this or find someone who does, it may be easier to just buy an Amazon Firestick. If you did that then everything could carry on as before, you just stream through the Firestick. That would be the minimum disruption.

Your old TV must have a spare HDMI socket for a Firestick. If it doesn't then say what sockets it does have available.
