Have you ever left a job and told a few people what you think of them?

Yes, my last job, a year ago. I told my manager and team mates exactly what tossers I thought they were. I filled in my feedback form to the city council telling them (yet again) about dangerous practice and fraudulent practice occurring on a daily basis. I asked for a leaving interview but wasn't granted one. I should have known, after trying to whistleblow for at least five years, that they don't want to know.

I walked into another job in a different local authority where people are pleasant to one another, where they appear to take a pride in doing the job to the best of their ability, and where my line manager is normal. I had forgotten such people existed in the workplace.

No but I wish I had. My first job was in an office run by two bullies who worked together to make sure everyone lived on tenterhooks. At the time I was naïve enough to think that's how offices were supposed to be run.

I think that some of you have read my thoughts on the caravan park manager, however I didn't actually voice them! (Wish I had now!)

I went to a job interview in Christchurch NZ for office work at a large store, which was across the street from where my husband was managing a camera shop. Before the interview I did my homework and established what the official pay rate was. The boss interviewing me offered me less. I told him. Ge shrugged and told me to take it or leave it.

I stood up, opened the office door, and loudly declared i would not work for any company that illegally paid below the correct rate, and what's more, I'd report him to the authorities. All the office staff heard.

By the time I had had a cup of coffee at a nearly cafe to calm down, and gone to tell my husband, that boss had started ringing round local business warning them off me. One of the local businesses was my husband's shop!! You can imagine the mouthful he got in return. We did report him, and I went on to get a much better job.

I suppose I was just a bolshie Pom to him.

I would love to have told the partners of a contract catering firm what I thought of them after I won a court case for constructive dismissal but a condition of the payout was a gagging order.

Nice to know they felt they needed to shut me up though.

When we had a round of redundancies, several of us middle managers opted for early retirement and redundancy packages becase we knew worse cuts were coming. Some felt coerced into it, so collectively we took them to a tribunal and won. Our cheques arrived with gagging contracts to sign and return. We all cashed our cheques and binned the gagging contracts. Nothing has been said about them, but as they were to be returned to the organisation's solicitor and he also was forced out after us, that might explain the lack of action!

I didn't get my cheque until after I signed the gagging order, when and I had to do that on the day otherwise I would have loved to have binned it.

Seems a bit silly to send the gagging contracts with the cheques...

They must have trusted us, Ana

Or perhaps that's why the solicitor was sacked?
