We moved to our current address about 2 years ago. Im a Widower and live with my D/g, G/d and Grandson,my Daughter and the kids are all working,I am retired and look after the 2 dogs.
This is an oldish area, the houses were built in the fifties and come to think about it there seems to be a lot of oldish people around including myself and really Gransnet could possibly become a good focal point.
I would like to give it a try.
I have got a number of threads going, had to try it out.
I have also tried the local forum however there does not seem to be a lot going on, its Birmingham and solihull, I think.

Hi jcdoh - please do join your local site and take a look around! You're so welcome to try adding some listings - here is the link to find your nearest site: find a local site

Which area are you in? I can't say whether or not we already have a local editor in your area without knowing, but please do join in if there is any mention of meet-ups etc. already. Gransnet is such a warm community and I'm very sure you would be given a hearty welcome tchgrin

I would like to do this - but I am very deaf, its courses many problems for me and those whom I speak to;

because for me to understand what is being said, I need concise and short sentences, listening can be very tiring; as a result to this, I tend to use such both in speech and text; which some people mis-interpret as offensive/ rude.

also shouting or louder is not really helpful, speech needs to be shorter and slower, very difficult getting this across, even within ones own family !

the saddest things are no more whispers so no more secrets, cant hear birds or small under school age children, nor running water;
grateful for kettles, switch themselves off, central heating too, but flashing lights when doorbell rings -also tells others outside that one is deaf--which is scary if one thinks burglars !

and I now get scared of joining clubs due to this.

Are you the person who knows everything there is to know about your community and are willing to share your knowledge?

Or perhaps you've recently moved into a new area and want a good excuse to meet new people? And eat cake?

If so, we'd love to hear from you. Gransnet Local currently covers around 35 areas including Brighton & Hove, Somerset, North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Colchester, Bristol, Bath, Conwy and others.

If your local site looks a little quiet it's probably because it needs someone to take care of it. If you think you're up to it, do get in touch.

For more details see here.
