FED UP WITH USELESS AGENCIES!

Evening all.

Yet again an Agency has proved themselves to be utterly crap no practical help at all. One put my CV forward for a job that I could do and had previous experience in. Got an email saying "sorry, you were not successful" So I replied to ask why (esp. as I met the criteria) and asking for feedback as to why I hadn't even got an interview!

The reply I got? "Our clients don't always give us feedback" !! Um, duh, have you tried asking them?

Aaaanyway, a short while ago I decided to get a bit proactive, and emailed some local companies "on spec" One actually replied shock I had used the "contact us" section on their website, and offered to send them a CV, as I couldn't attach it.

A couple of days later, yes, they would be happy to take a look. So I sent it along with a begging letter an offer to go to see them if they were interested. A week went by with no contact, then an email inviting me to "pop in" for a "chat"

So, I slapped a colour on my hair, dug out the hair removal cream blush and sallied forth. Nice chap, long chat. Some mumbling about how they had been meaning to look at upping their game marketing wise, but hadn't actually planned to do anything in the short term, but he would have a think.

Another week goes by. I thought, sod it, I'll email again to see if he has actually had any further thoughts. Got a reply, can I come in for another "chat". Well, I thought I may as well, especially as he had offered me a biscuit with my coffee last time.

The upshot of these ramblings is............... I START NEXT MONDAY!!!!

What a lovely lot you are!

The actual job title that they have come up with (as it is an entirely new role that they have created) is:

Office and Marketing Administrator.
Reporting to: Managing Director.
Duties: Provide admin support for current business activities.
Develop and improve admin systems
Work with the directors to develop and maintain a
marketing strategy.

So it is a bit of a blank canvas, which is nice (well, I think it will be!)

The people I have met so far seem a jolly lot of chaps, and that is definitely the right word as they are all men, I will be the only female employee! shock

Now, whatever you do DO NOT ask me what they do! It is very technical! When I was shown around the work shop on one side and the Lab on the other, I did a lot of nodding, interspersed with a slight raising of the eyebrows to show how impressed I was. I think I got away with it.

The company is called Wordentec, their sort of spin-off company that is housed within the same building is called Orion Photonics. Although officially I will be on the payroll for Wordentec, I will be dealing with the marketing and admin for both companies.

Well done Phoenix and good luck, it sounds awfully complicated!

Elegran Mon 31-Mar-14 23:49:06

So pleased to hear this , Phoenix. you deserve it.

I googled the two firms, and the Orion one has a photo of what does look like a jolly gang.

Phoenix, well done. You deserve it. Good luck on Monday

NfkDumpling Tue 01-Apr-14 07:01:39

When I Googled Wordentec I thought it looked like they do stuff like the anti scratch coating on specs. Then I looked at Orion and a bloomin' fighter plane came up! This could be such an interesting job. And, the Only Woman! Absolutely bloomin' perfect!

JessM Tue 01-Apr-14 07:22:03

Well you now know lots about the social networking scene and how it is used for marketing - but perhaps a prize offer on GN is not the way to go for a hight tech product.

Elegran Tue 01-Apr-14 09:11:10

Win your own fighter plane on GN - hmmm.

Ariadne Tue 01-Apr-14 09:16:32

And I didn't tell anyone!!

(We had a celebration at our meetup last week, which might account for the wine)

But - so happy for you, Phoenix. xxxx

TwiceAsNice Tue 01-Apr-14 10:53:30

Well done Phoenix! God helps those who help themselves if you don,t ask you don,t get! Brilliant news for you. The very best of luck on Monday and I hope you enjoy your new job and they can see what a bargain they have got.

Anne58 Tue 01-Apr-14 11:56:22

grin

I told you it was technical!

The MD asked me how I felt working for a company that is involved in producing things that are used in wars etc, (hence the fighter plane) but they also produce things that are used (for example) in surgery that involves the use of lasers.

They are very keen to develop a sort of "brand image" which could be erm challenging to say the least. They have told me who they regard as their competitors, so I plan to start by having a good look at their websites.

That is after I gently tell them that you don't need a capital R when signing off "Best regards" and try to persuade them that having an email footer with their logo on is practically essential!

Charleygirl Tue 01-Apr-14 12:51:36

phoenix you will also have to tell Orion that supply is spelt with 2 ps. It is little things like that I find stand out, but I am fussy.
