Evening all,

First day of new job tomorrow! Feeling a teensy bit nervous, but also quite excited!

It's been 2 years since I had what I might term a "proper" job, yes, I've had the odd thing along the way, but hey, here we go!

Many thanks to all of you who have been so supportive along the way, and yah boo sucks to the person who sent such an unpleasant PM yesterday!

Phoenix It's it's good to know it went well and you enjoyed it. I am sure you will able to cope with the technical stuff in time. I would suggest in a week or so you ask for a briefing on the technical bits and a tour of the factory itself.
A. You will be seen to be showing an interest!

B. You do need a basic idea of what they are doing in case someone asks you. or at least be able to bluff convincingly.
Thank's for keeping us posted.

Yes you will learn about it. I still amaze myself when i think how much I learned about the water industry for instance.

So glad it went well phoenix. i have a bet with myself that you will be putting together those quotes (if that is part of your job spec) and understanding them too, in about a month. Enjoy your well earned weekend xx

Delighted to hear that the first week has gone well in spite of having difficulty with the technical jargon. After a few months it will be tripping off your tongue. It is such a bonus living so close by so you will not have to worry about weather too often I hope. I am assuming that you will have the 2 BHs off next week. Put your feet up if possible today and tomorrow.

I have just got back from holiday so am only now aware of your good luck (or rather your employers good sense!) Just wanted to say how pleased I am for you and hoping this job is The One! As for the person who sent a nasty PM well - yah boo sucks to them!

All sounds goodPhoenix if you have nice people to work with, a job you can cope with and little travelling with a pay slip at the end of it all - you have most things on everyones tick list!
I am sure you will be able to come up with lots of ideas too once you understand the lingo etc and they will realise what an asset they have employed.

Lovely !!
<Applauds> Put your feet up for the next couple of days !

Mishap Sat 12-Apr-14 11:40:10

That all sounds good.

My DD works for a huge international company and is involved in selling complicated chemical constituents all round Europe. She did her degree in arts subjects so has no idea whatsoever about the chemistry - she is well-respected and brilliant at her job. So do not get too hung up on whether you understand the techy stuff!

So glad that the job has gone well - and it sounds as though it is nice and near to home, which couldn't be better.

Hello all!

I really enjoyed my first week, although I doubt if I'll ever become au fait with the technical stuff! The MD thinks that if I read some of the price quotes that he has prepared for customers it might help, but somehow I doubt it, as to me it looks like a cross between a mad scientists shopping list and the sort of typos you might get if a hamster ran across the keyboard.

It's been good in a way being "forced" back into some sort of routine, as before I seemed to be going to bed late and not waking up much before 8.30, which is the time I need to be at work. So I now get up at 7.15 ish. Luckily it only takes about 3 to 5 minutes to walk there, so that helps.

Mr P has been doing the cooking this week, which was lovely, and has even made me sandwiches, but he does go a bit mad with the quantities confused

Right, off to load the washing machine!

Hope it all continues well, phoenix, well done! smile

Not worth thinking about things like that phoenix (whatever 'that' was, I missed it all as I was away at the weekend)

Ana Mon 07-Apr-14 20:27:17

Any new/different experience can be tiring - I know I've felt exhausted in the past during a first week at work (even part-time!)

Anne58 Mon 07-Apr-14 19:56:06

Thanks Ana, I think I will sleep well tonight, not that the work is in anyway physically demanding, it's just that I'm out of practice! grin

Ana Mon 07-Apr-14 19:48:55

TAB's post just said we'd only seen or heard about her post and not the reply (which she claimed was unpleasant).

Glad you had a good first day, phoenix. smile

Anne58 Mon 07-Apr-14 19:45:52

Evening all, as posted on another thread, first day went well, so I'm going back tomorrow! grin

I didn't see the post by Tab(can't remember the numbers) before it got deleted, so naturally I'm now wondering what it said!

Iam64 Mon 07-Apr-14 19:26:42

Oh dear Soutra, I didn't find your post offensive.
Haven't base control notified you of the reason, and the sort of complaints that led to you being deleted?

Soutra Mon 07-Apr-14 18:44:24

Oo-er so which part of my supportive post wishing phoenix well and counselling treating abusive PMs with the contempt they deserve, warranted deletion?hmm and would it not be a courtesy to inform a member of said delwtion along with a valid reason?

Iam64 Mon 07-Apr-14 09:32:52

I do hope I am not too late to add my very best wishes to you Phoenix you might just be the person they have been waiting for and within a few weeks they will wonder how they ever managed without you. smile

yogagran Mon 07-Apr-14 00:18:39

I expect that you're tucked up in bed at this time of night phoenix or if you're not, then you jolly well should be!
Just caught up with this as I'm on the other side of the Atlantic at the moment but I wanted to add my best wishes for tomorrow. I'm sure that you'll be amazing
