When I start work on the 25th.

Anne58 Mon 11-Aug-14 19:24:30

Oh heavens, thank you all!

The salary is the lowest I have had for many a year, but, better then nowt, as they say.

The chaps I will be working with seem very nice, and they must have thought that I was ok as I had the meeting with them when the boss was away. They were going to the local college the next day, as the business has been considering taking on an apprentice, and there was already a commitment to go and speak to those students that had shown an interest.

I understood from the MD that what A & D thought would influence any decision, so they must have thought I was ok and would fit in?

Oh Phoenix that's brilliant news! I love the idea that you went in for one job and walked out with one that hadn't been invented until you turned up grin

Anne58 Mon 11-Aug-14 19:45:45

Well, Mini I don't know about "not invented" , there was an existing sales department, but when I applied for the admin role, the MD wasn't really thinking about enlarging the sales department unless it was with an apprentice. During our telephone conversation today, he was very complimentary about me blush

Have any of you looked at the current figures for National Minimum Wage? They are lean to say the least, and the ones for those on the Apprenticeship Scheme are quite frightening!

Onwards and upwards Phoenix. Once you get established and prove your worth you can start negotiating for a rise. As you say, it's better than nowt. Bet Mr P is proud of you - we all are!

You are a lovely lot!

Off to bed now, one of the boys is already stretched out, no doubt the newish one will join him before too long.

Although the pay is pretty bad, I'm hoping that even just the mere fact of working again will do me good!

I'm planning to spend the next couple of weeks doing some sort of serious housework, washing paintwork etc, in the vague hope that once everything is reasonably up to scratch, then it should be fairly easy to maintain. Well, that's the theory, anyway.

Of course there is also the fact that the town I will be working in has a Morrisons, and they sometimes have offers on laundering shirts............

Only kidding, I will be continuing my Stepford Wives duty re Mr P's shirts, just look out for a large golden glow over North Devon, it will be the light cast by my halo.

PS The newbie has come looking for me, so goodnight to you all, may you have restful sleep, and if you do dream may they be good ones. moon

Sorry, I'm late on parade, Phoenix. Very well done and Best of Luck!!

NfkDumpling Mon 11-Aug-14 23:21:18

Just having a quick trawl before bed - brilliant news Phoenix - the pay may be low but that means there shouldn't be too much pressure either - ease your way in, it's a step in the right direction. Good Luck wine

Anne58 Tue 12-Aug-14 13:10:28

Thank you all!

Although I've just realised that if I do go in on the 25th, I'll probably be all on my own as it's a Bank Holiday blush

Ana Tue 12-Aug-14 13:11:14

Not sure about the "no pressure" Nfk , as he's taking on an extra person in a department that he wasn't planning to expand, I will have to generate some business in the first 6 months to sort of justify my salary.

It's a real shame that the other one didn't work out, as there really was no pressure there at all and I could walk to work.

I'm a bit worried about the driving in the dark bit once the winter comes, but will cross that bridge when I come to it.

In an ideal world I would love to just do part time, but can't really afford to.

TriciaF Tue 12-Aug-14 13:43:43

Really well done ! To get through several interviews, you must have really impressed him . What a confidence boost flowers

Mishap Tue 12-Aug-14 14:51:24

Excellent news - do hope it all goes well.

Do you have very far to drive? - have you got to get on the dreaded A38? - I hate that road. It has split Devon in two and you can't get anywhere without hopping on it or over it. I am sure that you are used to it though.

Don't worry about the night driving yet - time enough. I am sure you will cope when you get into it. Sometimes the prospect of something is worse than the reality.

Anne58 Tue 12-Aug-14 15:16:06

Not too far Mishap I'm in EX21, they are at EX39 3FH. The first part of the route the AA Route Planner shows is wrong (just in case you were going to have a look!), but it's in Bideford so not a bad run.

When I was still at Mystery Shoppers over 2 years ago, I noticed a considerable deterioration in my night driving vision, it's ok in towns where these is street lighting, but on unlit roads it's not good.

Nonu Tue 12-Aug-14 16:10:36

Excellent news!!

Mishap Tue 12-Aug-14 16:15:21

Have you talked to an optician about the night driving? - I have this problem and they did tell me there was nothing they could do as I have such a high degree of astigmatism coupled with very short sight. They said that I would always find night driving hard.

But they were very helpful, and I guess might be able to suggest ways of improving things for you.

moomin Tue 12-Aug-14 16:33:20

Well done phoenix, great news

Anne58 Tue 12-Aug-14 16:33:26

I had an eye test a couple of weeks ago and did mention it, but nothing was suggested.
