I worked as a relief/part-time manager one day a week in one of the main East Anglian CFGC shops. I had previously been a volunteer (representing a charity close to my heart) doing a morning once a week in the 10/11 weeks run up to Christmas every year for 10 years. For every charity to have its cards on sale there must be a named volunteer doing a regular shift and my shop had 50 charities, including the large well known national charities and other smaller and local charities eg hospices, wildlife trusts etc.
Yesterday we had a coffee morning when we get together to sort out the rota for the coming season and get volunteers to help put the shop together, including pricing individual gifts (teatowels, candles etc) and advent calendars.
We have volunteers that have been working at the shop for far longer than myself. We all enjoy helping the charities and meeting our regular customers and making new friends. I believe I am correct to say that last year 70 pence in every pound spent went to the charities.
If anyone has any questions please PM me.
