I have worked for my employer for 15 years when he first started his business and have helped it develop and grow. having reached a certain age I have decided to retire at Christmas. My replacement has been found and I am expected to train her. I have now discovered she is to be paid considerably more than I am which has left me feeling very undervalued. Should I remain loyal and stay till Christmas or leave earlier

What does your trade union say about this set-up?

I certainly feel you have been treated unfairly, if you have never been given a pay rise, or have been refused one, and your successor is now going to be paid much more than you were.

as i left one job, after training my successor, the boss announced that she could phone me whenever with any queries. i was so irritated that i left a note "explaining my consultancy fees" (3 times current salary). turned out she didn't need to disturb me in my new job after all! (hooray!)
if your chat with your employer doesn't bear fruit, maybe you can devise a way of leaving that will make you feel happy once you've left. smile grin wink sunshine
