170g (6 oz) self raising flour
225g (8 oz) sugar or sweetner
1 tsp mixed spice
225g (8 oz) butter
675g (1 1/2lb) cooking apples
2 large eggs (beaten)
A little milk

Handy Hint

Delicious hot with cream or cold eaten as cake


1. Preheat oven 190C and grease a 23cm (9") tin.
2. Sift flour, add spice and sugar to mixing bowl, then add chopped butter.
3. Put the sliced and peeled apples into the mixture then add beaten eggs with sufficient milk to make a fairly stiff batter.
4. Bake until golden brown (check that a skewer/cake tester comes out clean - if not return to the oven)
