Not to want night wear that says *im as soft as pink candy" or chase me!!

Missed you bikergran - hope all's well? I agree about the nightwear, by the way! It's either sprigged cotton nighties or kittens with bows on PJ's!

We've got a British Home Stores in town, and they've got some lovely slinky but comfy night wear! Nighties (long and short) and PJ's too! Just the job in case the fire brigade have to call on you in the night!

If you're near a Debenhams they do some nice ranges....not too "dolly birdish" and not "old ladyish" either.

Have had the same problem, so thank you ladies - will try BHS and Debenhams and will avoid Matalan. You (and GN) have saved me quite a bit of trekking around!

The last nigties ...short ones ...I got from a Disney store ...they were lovely!

Bit picky, me. Cotton, long enough to keep my backside cosy all night, no slogans, no cartoons, long sleeves (get cold arms too) and not something that looks like it's styled for MY granny!
Oh and not too Victorian frilly either.
Past Times used to be a source but closed locally and Bonsoir, online.

I bought a nice one in BH but it didn't cover my backside so gave it to my sis.

I bought a nightie in BHS recently. I'm not too fussy what I wear as I only have one to take away when we got to stay somewhere. Don't normally wear anything - but that's too much information - sorry.
BHS ones quite plain and pretty, at least they don't all have slogans and kittens etc on them

I like tartan PJs... had two pairs, now down to one and can't seem to find any more. Mostly just wear an old T shirt and plain pyjama bottoms, which serve the only reason for being in bed these days - keeping warm and sleeping well! Just after we married, DH bought me a nightie. It was a hideous sherbet lemon coloured chiffon with black lace trim! It soon got lost in the airing cupboard down behind the immersion heater - can't think how! Anyway impossible to retrieve.... ho hum!

Artygran, that reminds me of the 'dressing-gown' that DH bought for me one Christmas....It was green with orange roses that looked like snails, had massive lapels trimmed with lace, and was quilted. It was too short, and to make things worse, the kids had bought me great big bright-pink fluffy slippers! I had to wear it all on Christmas morning then gradually managed to rip it a bit, so that the 'stuffing' of the quilting came out...

Most of us sleep in the dark so why do we want slogans or cartoons on our night attire?

Why is it that black is considered to be a sexy colour? My ex came back from a trip to London and triumphantly produced what he believed to be a sexy nightie - heavy, slimy viscose material and about two sizes too big. No idea where he got it, but it wasn't exactly Janet Reger! It was soon relegated to the bottom of the bottom drawer and, when he wasn't looking, into the jumble collection.

arty, Lands End often do tartan PJs in the run up to xmas. Lovely brushed cotton too. Very snug.

I just wear very soft old 'bags' (baggy breeks) and long-sleeved T-shirts that are a bit too washed out and faded to be seen in during the day.

You must have been a sight gmg! All 5-10 of you...

I bought a pair of pyjamas in Sainsburys the other day, black,long sleeved top and black and white spotty bottoms. They are lovely and soft and even better there was 25% of all clothes.

Lands End also do nighties like long t-shirts in warm soft cotton and a choice of lengths. I have two long sleeved ones for winter and two short sleeved ones for summer. One on one in the wash. (sounding like MY granny now!)

I love Lands End nighties. They're a good length and wash well.

JessM, I was a sight for sore eyes indeed! Because I'm so long, and the dressing-gown was so badly made, the pockets were somewhere near my waist. I do remember that the kids had brought me a selection box as well though, so the Christmas morning photos of me wearing my presents, and with my selection box under my arm kept the rest of the family happy for quite a while...!

I just like white cotton nighties mid calf length to cover my 'bits' - can I get them no Bloody M & S again used to do them and now doesnt. Cant do pyjamas or synthetic material hot flushes at night too severe.

That's the one susieb, nothing like thin cotton nighties. Even t shirt material feels too warm. My favourite is a plainish one from Bonsoir - pintucks on the yoke, no collar. When DH or MIL asks what i want for christmas it is my stock answer, as thin cotton does not last very long.

JessM, Past Times has a web site which does still have a (very modest) cotton nightie available. Other than that, Ebay might have something, though buying 'blind' by mail order has its perils. I got a couple of cotton nighties that looked good in a catalogue and the fabric was so flimsy you could shoot peas through it. Or, of course, if you're good with a sewing machine you could d-i-y; even start a cottage industry.

I'm really lucky living in the subtropics; I sleep starkers, but keep a nightie nearby, in the giant Tshirt style, one in knee length red interlock, the other in blue.

Anything I wear in bed ends up twisted round me, so I just don't bother.

Oh Joan, hard to sleep in sticky climate. Sydney without aircon last January - windows closed to keep the spiders out and the dishwasher and tumble drier on just to help me along ... picture me trying to sleep on living area floor so abandonment of nightie not an option!
I am going there next month so should be much cooler!

I have a couple of Past Times white cotton nighties. Quite pretty in a quaint way but ironing them is just awful and wearing them unironed is incredibly uncomfortable. They spend far more time in the drawer than in my bed!
