What was your favourite toy? when you were a child.

I had a large pink dolls' cot which became a bus when the minister's son came round to play. I was told, but could only just remember that my favourite toy when I was tiny was a woolly lamb called Lewis. I think he had a bell in him for some reason.

I had a hard plastic (or maybe bakelite) clockwork penguin, which shuffled along when wound up. I used to take it to bed with me and often was wakened when it would suddenly 'kick off' in the night. Gave me a life long love for penguins. I have an adopted King Penguin at Edinburgh Zoo (renewed annually by my daughters on Mother's day).

Mine was a plastic wind up Cinderella from the Disney film. She was exactly like her and even now if I watch the Disney Cinderella film with my G.D. I think of her.

My other favourite was a little sewing machine, my mum stitched gloves at home for hours on end to make money and we would sit together for hours.

A doll my parents brought back from Italy when I was about 5-6 ie about 1949/50? She was called Lucia.

A rag doll made by my godmother called fluffy kins,she was made from an old fur coat.

A teddy bear named Susie that was to be given to my baby sister but she died at three months of age of pneumonia. The bear was then given to me instead, I think for my third birthday. I took her to bed with me every night and I still have Susie.

Rollerskates - first ones with metal wheels - horrendous - and then the latest rubber wheels!

Yes, rollerskates. I shared my friend's rollerskates for a while - we would have one each! Then on my birthday, I was given rollerskates with ball bearings in them and rubber on the wheels. I was officially in heaven!
I can't say I was as willing to share with my friend as she had been with me (to my shame - she is my friend to this day). However, a month later, on her birthday, she received the same pair as me. Skatergirls!!

Faye what a poignant reminder of your little sister

A large,black, walkie talkie doll, which I spent hours dressing. My dolls nearly all had a hole in the back of their heads! I would sit them on the range and they would fall sideways and melt in the heat! Still loved them though.

My paternal grandmother lived in Australia and sent me a toy koala bear made of kangaroo hair. I called him Bo and have him still, he is a very well travelled bear and has literally travelled all over the world. He is now carefully wrapped up and in my linen cupboard. Looks very moth eaten.
As we travelled so much my brother and I did not have any of the larger toys like dolls' houses,bikes,prams etc. Mainly smaller toys and books as they were easier to pack obviously, So I never learned to ride a bike.

My red three wheeler bike which had a boot fitted on the back where I could hide all my treasures from my twin brother he always tried to hide my stuff,I also loved my top and whip and was forever having plasters on my knees from the times I fell over trying to set the top off.Ouch!!

A teddy bear called Bruin, a clockwork train set and a doll called Alphonse.

Teddy! given to to me by my great grandmother on my baptism. He is upstairs and has 'new' chamois paws put on by my mum when I went to boarding school as his original leather ones dried and cracked when we moved abroad. He has little fur left and it is still has traces of the smoke damage when the paraffin heater 'smoked' when I had measles. I have re-sewn his nose and gave him new eyes when DGD1 was 2 as she was upset he had no eyes. DGD2 insisted on giving me a new teddy for my birthday this year as she was worried that Teddy was a bit old!

A baby-like doll measuring no more than 6". She wore hand knitted clothes. I pestered my Nana into buying her for me.

There's a little shop in Southwell that has old toys in the window. Yesterday it had a dolls house that reminded me of a dolls house I played with [but had forgotten about]. I also don't remember having any furniture to put in it; maybe it wasn't mine but I played with it somewhere else? Anyway, the toys I do remember were a lion,lioness and a tiger that I bought on a school trip to London Zoo. They were about 2 inches long and I used to take them into the brewhouse, fill the sink with water and spend hours playing with them. I think the little plastic dog that I got from The Bunty used to join them, along with other waterpoof toys. That's why I always liked to let my grandson play with water when he came to my house. I took a photo of all of my dolls and teddies once but, although I seem to have a lot of the family photos that one disappeared. I'd love to see it again .

My teddy! She had a memorable adventure when I left her on the top deck of a bus. My nana and I had alighted at the top of the hill to save trudging up but of course said bus went sailing down and we set off after it. Luckily my bear was still there, sitting in state on the front seat. Needless to say I was not flavour of the month with my nana on that occasion!
I also loved my doll's house. It had only 4 rooms but had electric light and was beautifully furnished. I used to spend ages rearranging the little pieces. Any friends who came to play were allowed to look - but definitely not touch!

Trees! Much more fun than toys. Oh, and snow or water.

Teddy, definitely teddy. from M and S, given to me when I was six months old. That makes him sixty something. I still have him but he no longer travels with me, preferring a quieter life on the shelf in the study.

I loved my Sindy doll and when my aunt bought me Barbie it was the icing on the cake. I still remember the thrill of saving my pocket money and going to the shoo that sold the cheaper versions of clothes for them and choosing which one to buy.

A little stuffed bear on all fours. My sister has it on her kitchen windowsill and every time I visit her we still have the same argument: 'It's mine!' No!it's mine!'- never resolved in nearly 60 years!!

My little red bike doubled up as a pony as I couldn't have one of those. I rode it pretending I was rising to the trot which must have made the neighbours think there was something wrong with me.

Spirograph, a doll given to me on my birthday which I called Rosemary and my sisters knitted a lot of outfits for her, a lego alternative called Betta Builda which I used toplay with for hours.
