29% Horsemeat in a Burger - Is this not " a Trace too far " 50 years
ago Horse Meat was sold in shops - I do not remember any ill effects .
Should Helicopters and Light Aircraft carry 2 crew by Law and should
the areas they fly in be under stricter control particularly London.
English Heritage has announced it can no longer afford to put up Small
Blue Placques on London houses to announce a celebrity once lived there
- what would a placque cost ?
Plans are being considered to ban teachers from using Red Ink to mark
homework " because it upsets Pupils " seemingly in 2008 hundreds of
British Schools banned teachers from doing this. How long have we been
marking in red ink - I do not remember any complaints !
Why cannot TV sound be constant - Why is it loud one minute and quiet
the next - Where is modern Technology ?
Why do some footballers wear gloves - in my footballing days they would
be considered a sissy .
Why do football goal scorers go daft when they score a goal - it is a team
game - all eleven players play a part - I don't see a full back going daft
after a good tackle !
Why are footballers constantly spitting and blowing their nose on TV ,
it is a disgusting habit .
Why do so many men these days go around unshaven - is it
considered to be macho ?

We are a country of Whingers though, hence the Aussie sobriquet 'whinging Poms'. We are all really lucky, think about being a woman in another country whose whys could be:
Why don't my children have enough to eat
Why don't my children have a school to attend
As a woman why can't I vote
As a woman why does my face have to be covered when there is nothing in any religious book that demands that.
As a woman why can't I drive, go out alone, if I do go out I have to ask permission from any male in the house, even my 4 year old son has more rights then I do.
As a girl child why did I suffer from genital mutilation, when there is nothing in any religious book that demands that.
As woman in some countries why am I regarded as something worthless.
As a woman in the UK I am so lucky as I do not and never have suffered from any of the comments I've just made.

nanban the first 5 are answered by the last one. If you were taller the others wouldn't apply. At least that's my excuse grin

Ariadne Sun 20-Jan-13 15:12:11

dorsetpentt that is an excellent and timely list. Thank you.

BTW, in the last 10-15 years of my teaching career, we (English Dept.) always marked in pencil. I can remember how depressing my Maths homework used to look when it was returned slashed all over with red pen.

Why do drivers bib their horns so quickly

Why does it take so long for potatoes to get crispy when roasting them

Why is it that when you clean the house it only last two minutes

Why do parents have favourites

Why do I happily choose a colour to paint my wall and when its up ALWAYS dislike it.

cheelu Sun 20-Jan-13 20:17:23

Movedalot smile

JessM Sun 20-Jan-13 20:40:55

Nice post dorset we are indeed a country of whingers and a little foreign travel brings that home forcibly e.g. christchurch earthquake, australian floods.

annodomini Sun 20-Jan-13 21:27:07

dorset - a timely reminder of the rights we have to be grateful for. Thank you.

Here I am Home Alone, Christmas sweets all long gone [straight to the bum] and there sits my little Christmas sugar mouse, with his little sweet face, and little string tail. I looked at him, and he looked back - it was of course hopeless ........ xx

Ariadne Mon 21-Jan-13 13:59:32

Hello there, nanban! I bet you've eaten it. Did he have any friends left over for today.

Sel Mon 21-Jan-13 14:38:40

Ariadne Mon 21-Jan-13 15:16:09

Movedalot Mon 21-Jan-13 15:35:57

Sel some of us need out illusions/excuses, please don't take them away sad

Sel Mon 21-Jan-13 15:44:06

There is some good news Movedalot they have revised the BMI scales so you may be thinner than you thought! The bad news for me is, I'm still overweight, even on the new calculations grin

Ana Mon 21-Jan-13 15:51:28

Sel, I don't believe it! I pictured you as tall and willowy! confused
Or at least statuesque...

Movedalot Mon 21-Jan-13 16:08:31

There you go - tall and overweight = statuesque. Short and overweight = dumpy! grin

Sel Mon 21-Jan-13 16:12:16

Hmmmmm, statuesque..I'm liking that grin I can't do willowy but with my Spanx on I can approach oak like. Mature oak grin

gracesmum Mon 21-Jan-13 16:18:10

When I was told (secondary) kids might find my use of a red pen "psychologically damaging" I just replied that they shouldn't make so many ballymistakes then.
(If there was a ban in 2008 - nobody told me!grin)

gracesmum Mon 21-Jan-13 16:19:41

Very sobering, dorsetpennt

cheelu Mon 21-Jan-13 23:22:27

And to continue the original brilliance of this thread....

Why are we so scared to do what is really going to make us happy

Why dont we realise that life is very short and we should appreciate every day

Why do we choose to cry when we could smile instead

Why do grown Adults bicker like children

Why do we follow our bank managers instructions instead of our hearts

Ok I'm done and really looking forward to reading other granetter's WHY'S

numberplease Tue 22-Jan-13 16:07:55

Why do my unreachable and /or rude itches always occur when I`m in the presence of other people? grin

JessM Tue 22-Jan-13 20:07:08

grin number you are a star

Nanban Tue 22-Jan-13 20:12:58

I am not short, I am petite.
Sugar Mouse is definitely deceased.
My bank manager a very long time ago said: borrow as much as you can, as cheaply as you can, for as long as you can. And I agreed.
My country is the best in the world - and I know, I've lived in plenty of others.

Why is there anything wrong in the world - one word - people.

Why cry instead of laugh - one word - people.

nanaej Wed 23-Jan-13 00:07:40

dorset thanks for your post, I was checking through this thread feeling angry with the moaning about how crap this country is. I have pride in Britain and if you look for good it is there .. look for bad and you will find it. British people have a lot to be grateful for.
