Met him a few years ago and he was lovely so, no, he doesn't annoy me. It's strange how meeting [or knowing more about] someone changes how you view them.
Didn't know who Robin Page was, so I looked him up. He's stood for more political parties than Nick Griffin, twice for Ukip. He was once arrested for inciting racial hatred, but found not guilty. Somehow, I still prefer Chris Packham.
He's not a career naturalist like some but someone who has been obsessed with wildlife since early childhood, that's what I like about him. He still has boxes and boxes of stuff that he collected when a young boy. Mind you, the S.O. can't stand Jools Holland and has to leave the room when Later with Jools is on . Some people have that effect on others.
He can be a bit patronising, but he's gone up in my estimation over recent years because he has integrity and he's passionate enough to stand up to the people who insist that sports involving harming wild animals for fun is justified. J'd like Kate Humble back, too.
I hate to tell you this when but my daughter (who had quite a crush on him) went right off him when she saw a photo of him standing beside a huge fish he had landed. She wrote to him about it but got no reply.
What is it about Springwatch presenters? I can't stand Chris or Michaela with their stupid banter, and nor could I stick Kate Humble or Bill Oddy. Maybe they are directed to behave in that way! I also used to get irritated by Martin Hughes-Games pushing his glasses up into his hair and down again, but think he must have either had laser surgery or uses lenses now. Oh dear, how intolerant I am ! Better not mention that I can't watch Jools Holland either, Tegan.
He rang her once (can't remember how he got the phone number) and spent ages on the phone trying to sell her a wildlife watching holiday at a new business project he was starting. She didn't buy it. I was really cross at the time.
