hmm not sure how I feel about this which was posted by a lady who runs a small charity helping the refugees. On the one hand is it good publicity about the plight of the refugees and how much help they need?
On the other hand is it a Hollywood actress going out there and 'virtue signalling' (as they say)?

If she goes home and tells her compratiots that they need to take more refugees into their rich country that could be a good thing.
However, Greece (and Turkey) is really struggling to help the refugees.

I think that it's all the unsung heroes and heroines who are helping who deserve our applause, not a Hollywood film star who flies in and out with a film crew.

Or AIBU?

Turkey seems to manufacture inflatable boats. I've been wondering how they could stop all these awful drownings if they could stop exporting them to turkey and they manufacture them. I've wondered where the life jackets have come from. It was the mention of he canoe that made me post this. Didn't mean to wander.

I love the Wye Valley. Take GSs there every summer. I actually went in a canoe a couple of years back.

Merlin (BBC1 a few years back) was filmed in Puzzlewood. Strange place it is. Can't say I like it too much. Bit oppressive.

Absolutely Anniebach!

I am far more interested in what a person does or say than what they wear

I wonder how many she will take into one of her homes and how she is personally funding them. Not got any time for her anymore, she looked just awful in her black bra and white jacket so we could all see her magnificent breasts, she should use some of her cash to buy a t shirt.

Spent many times at Symond's Yat, and Tintern Abbey.
Are they the frackable side, or not?

rosequartz Tue 22-Dec-15 19:34:15

I should have said 'Pre-Roman times'

rosequartz Tue 22-Dec-15 15:21:35

It is beautiful, but it also has an industrial heritage stretching back to Roman Times.
Iron and coal mining and other industries, etc.

Apparently part of the new Star Wars movie was filmed in Puzzlewood, they told people they were filming 'Countryfile' to put them off the scent.

Anniebach Tue 22-Dec-15 11:56:47

It's so beautiful there

durhamjen Tue 22-Dec-15 11:55:18

I notice that fracking is planned in the Forest of Dean, just the English side of the Wye Valley.

Anniebach Tue 22-Dec-15 11:55:10

Rosequartz, it was yet another error, mixed up you and rosesarered again

rosequartz Tue 22-Dec-15 10:29:51

I thought we were talking about Wales, in particular your desire to concrete over green and pleasant Monmouthshire with housing estates and factories, which sounds a bit like Nimbyism as i don't think you live there ab.
There are disused factories around, which could be put into use again if you wish, and large tracts of land already under development around in the area - factories and housing- without building on productive farm land and AONB.
Building on the lush productive farm land and then having to import food seems counter-productive to me.

Anyway, I think that Monmouthshire and surrounding districts and Wiltshire are amongst the first to wecome refugees. I don't think there is a need to concrete over whole counties smile especially up the Sugarloaf Mountain.

As djen said in her Desmond Tutu quote 'do your little bit of good where you are' etc.

Any publicity Susan Sarendon can spread in the US to counteract Mr Trump can't be bad. Make the US people see that refugees are people in need of help and not terrorists.

And the welsh assembly stopped young people receiving benefits?

Anniebach Mon 21-Dec-15 23:34:28

So the Labour run welsh assembly are to blame for the high rise in homeless people though out England ?

rosequartz Mon 21-Dec-15 23:31:09

That's a great sentiment djen

durhamjen Mon 21-Dec-15 23:28:54

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” - Desmond Tutu.

I'm with Desmond Tutu on this. Call it virtue signalling if you want.

On www.globalcitizen.org you can send a message to a child refugee, welcoming him or her to the UK.

Nothing to do with the fact that Wales has a Labour administration that couldn't organise a proverbial piss-up in a local brewery.

Not saying that a Labour Government at Westminster would be as useless as them, hope you understand!

Anniebach Mon 21-Dec-15 23:09:56

As has other welsh countries rosequartz, the increase in homeless people in this country is due to this government , msny more young people are homeless because they have bern hit really hard by the Tories

rosequartz Mon 21-Dec-15 22:56:23

While there is much discussion on here about 'what should be done with refugees' Monmouthshire just gets on with it.
Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Meanwhile, there are also homeless and vulnerable people requiring shelter in Monmouthshire and surrounding distrcts.

Anniebach Mon 21-Dec-15 22:39:10

The beeb news this evening showed the camp at Calais , the RSPCA wouldn't allow animals to live in those conditions , such despair , how can we let people live like this

durhamjen Mon 21-Dec-15 22:28:49

Pleased you can joke about it, roses. You obviously did not read the article, otherwise you would not be able to take the bloody piss. Typical.

Anniebach Sun 20-Dec-15 15:43:56

And America wants Assad out . Is he any better than IS, he has bombed and gassed Syrians too.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 20-Dec-15 15:22:00

Well, of course it's not only Syria that needs saving from IS. The springing up of IS could be just the spur needed for all nations to come together to defeat them. And stop the war in Syria as a start. I imagine even Assad realises that IS are evil.
