Dog poo

Am I being unreasonable to expect all dog owners to pick up and dispose of their dog's poo?

There is a dog warden in DD2's village and she stops dog walkers and asks to be shown poo bags. Great idea!

don't want to be too graphic ... but our dachshund produces enormous poos!

I don't know the detail but a dog trainer friend told me its now "the law" that dog walkers have a pooh bag to show any dog warden who asks.

Stansgran I am one of those people on a mobility scooter who sometimes walks our little dog. I have a 'pooper scooper' which is like a little mini mechanical grab, I fit a bag in before I go out and it gives me an additional 8 inches to a foot or reach - just enough to reach any offending poo's.

You then just press the handle, place over the item and let go of handles, it captures( in case it was going to run off grin) the poo and I just tie up the bag and place the whole thing on the scooter floor until I reach a poo bin , where I just press the handles again, eject bag into bin and away we go !

Maybe its the solution for anyone who hates handling warm ones wink

DH and I were walking through a playing field when a friendly golden lab came over to say hello. Soon afterwards we heard a woman shouting, apparently directed at us. Turns out the lab had done his business and the "poo warden" was demanding we remove the evidence. We did try to explain but she wasn't having any of it. We carried on and let her continue with her tirade. A hundred yards or so further on a chap looked over and said"what was all that about?" He was the lab's owner and must have been too frightened to admit it. Moral of the story, please be sure you have the right person before haranguing them about dog poo.

Some councils spray paint dog poo to embarrass the owners! now-here-this.timeout.com/2014/12/02/camden-council-is-spray-painting-dog-poo-luminous-pink/

Poo bags in every pocket even my dressing gown for the first thing in the morning poo in the garden!

We live in dog walking heaven beside a beach. Our dog loves the social life there! But despite poo bins liberally scattered around there are still a horrendous number of inconsiderate people who let their dogs poo both on the beach and on the path alongside. I have been the mother with squashed poo on pram wheels and children's shoes, legs and socks, often marched through the house. So I would never leave my dog's parcels behind....not even in a bag!

There are never enough bins- at least where I live! I ALWAYS clear up after my dog but often then find I can walk several miles, literally, before I come across one. While I certainly don't condone it, I can see why bags are sometimes left hanging from trees and in hedges.

My street is used by all the local dogs as it's the only one with trees in it. I once saw ONE woman picking up her dog's offering (and in the pouring rain, bless her) but mostly the street is a minefield with the poo spilling onto the pavement then getting trodden on etc.

It's disgusting, but apart from ringing the council almost daily to have them come and clear it up I don't know what I can do.

I have a cat, and she's trained to only go in her litter tray as I don't want her ruining my (or anyone else's) garden.

What would dog owners think if we encouraged toddlers taken short to crap in front of their houses then just left it? I read that some councils are using DNA analysis to identify dogs through their poo then fining the owners. Great idea.

Ana Wed 27-Jan-16 18:21:01

How on earth can they do that? Wouldn't the dog's DNA have to be already registered somewhere?

I mean, they can't very well go door to door asking for samples...

However many dog wardens there are, I can't see them catching the dirty b***** who refuse to clean up after their dogs. Apart from the few Whitehaven it out in daylight, I reckon the majority walk their dog very early before work and in the dead of night when no one's about. My son and I walk our dogs regularly throughout the day and into the evening, always cleaning up after them. We never see anyone leave dog mess behind but there's tons of it in our village.

The ones who annoy me almost as much are those who bag it up and take it to the nearest bin but leave it in a growing pile underneath the bin if it's full! Often the bin lid is at a steep poo angle because many people are apparently unable to spot that the bin is full and keep piling it on top! What's wrong with taking it home or putting it in another rubbish bin??? Local councils accept this.

Whitehaven??? I typed 'who brazen'!!!!!

We overlook a small park which is convenient for people in the area to bring their dogs to run, play and poo. What they don't see, but we do, are the young mums and their babies sitting on the same grass having a summer picnic, or the nursery school children who are let loose to have a run in the sunshine, and then sitting down to rest. Even responsible dog owners who clear up the mess, must know that traces of their dog's fouling is left behind.

dorsetpennt Wed 27-Jan-16 19:06:51

When I had my two Labs I always picked up their poo. I walked them on our local beach, park and forest. I hated my kids, and me , stepping in the stuff so wasn't going to add to it. If I saw a dog owner not picking.up I used say, ever so sweetly, ' did you forget your bags, do have one of mine ' . Shamed them every time without being controversial.

Dogs aren't allowed on our play area but we are lucky to have a dedicated dog field provided by the parish council. People (unseen) don't always clean up in there which means my dog and I might walk in it and his ball might land it. I can't ex poo press how disgusting some people are!!!!!! angry

lizzypopbottle Wed 27-Jan-16 19:08:54

No idea how that poo word keeps appearing unasked in my posts but it's certainly apt!!
