I dislike the new trend for Newsreaders using the term Your instead of The, ie

‘ Now it’s time for your weather, your local news etc’

What happened to The weather, The local news,
The topic , etc
Why does it even bother me ? Perhaps I should ‘Own it’
Am I the ‘only one’ ?

No Mabon, it is the news in your area,
If it was Your news it would be about you.
It’s not moaning it is a thread,a topic that’s what GN is about,as I have been told several times on here if it’s not to your taste move on, but actually it is a very interesting psychological observation to observe how we react to just the written word, we are programmed to understand each other via facial expressions, hand gestures body posture etc etc, Without those clues we are more likely to misunderstand each other.Fascinating stuff !?

Yes Bridgeit, you’re an old pedant.
Welcome to the distinguished company as there are many of us on Gransnet.
I love being pedantic - it’s the best thing for getting rid of unwelcome visitors! grin

I don't like "Here is the new for where you are.". We are in Cornwall but often watch the Yorkshire local news as that is where we were brought up. So we shout at the tv, but they still do it. (Apologies for starting a sentence with 'so'.)

Yes Sluttygran you are probably right about that,,but I’m also a real softy, it’s weird how we react to each other as I said earlier (different thread) as humans we rely on facial expressions to ascertain a meaning, the written word is more open to interpretation.

I have always been a pedant, although I recognise that words come and go. Why is the f... word used as a noun, a verb and an adverb, when there are so many other words in the dictionary? Years ago a man was banned from the BBC for using it on air. Now it's all over the place. I use the subtitles on TV and it looks even worse written down.

I think the newsreaders tend to say "time for the news where you are" at least they do on the Beeb!
