Why is GN being used as a whipping post for Corbyn?

Has anyone counted the number of threads currently active which are purely Anti-Jeremy Corbyn?

This is NOT a thread about a thread, but about the principle of being allowed to use this forum in a way which is not, surely, acceptable.

Does anyone else agree that this is heading beyond free speech and political debate and diversity, and has now entered the realms of something else?

Perhaps GNHQ would like to address this query too?

Sorry. I try to avoid the political threads. Maybe it's only the same people saying the same thing on each thread? Boring and repetitive but that's not a crime.

Oldmeg you cannot dictate what others post nor can you dictate what they think about JC.

If you have problems with any posts you should report them directly.

MawBroon Tue 04-Sep-18 07:31:37

Isn’t it a case of the “same old, same old”?
JC and TM, like any government/Front Benches of the day are, , dare I say it, easy targets (other “easy targets” are of course available) requiring little original thought or input.
Of course they are guaranteed to run and run!
Others of us sigh, skip past those threads, unless we are really stuck for something to read, and hope for more original or enlightened topics.

Kitty I’m not ‘dictating’ what anyone puts up. I’m simply asking are numerous threads like this what GN is all about? Let’s say someone posted three threads knocking Mary Berry? Or about their DiL?

Just because Maw this is a political figure (and I agree with your point that they are ‘easy targets’) doesn’t mitigate my original point.

Would this be considered normal or bordering on something else?

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 07:55:23

Actually it’s quite reassuring that thinking posters like you Maw and Jane have replied in this vein. I worry too much!

MawBroon Tue 04-Sep-18 07:56:33

Merely suggesting a lack of original thinking Old Meg, just as people at bus stops or doctors’ waiting rooms etc moan about the weather/government/Brexit/immigration/ the potholes/the youth of today/the price of everything/Marks and Spencer’s!
(On which subject, how many threads do we get on M&S, going grey, or DILs ...??)

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:05:27

??

loopyloo Tue 04-Sep-18 08:07:29

What' something else?' Are you implying the poster is a bit obsessed or is backed by a sinister force or that the Russians are involved? We still have free speech and we should defend that right.
If people didn't add to those threads they would soon fizzle out.

kittylester Tue 04-Sep-18 08:07:47

Thanks oldmeg. grin

MawBroon Tue 04-Sep-18 08:08:33

Oh loopyloo if only.....grin

Anniebach Tue 04-Sep-18 08:20:22

No Maw, i do not lack original thinking and I will continue to post my views as others post theirs. It is not a case of same old, same old.

OldMeg complaining about a member posting their opinions , suggesting HQ get involved seems very much like an attempt to curb free speech.

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:22:51

Obviously MI5 loopyloo

Kitty I wasn’t implying that you weren’t a ‘thinking’ gran, perish the thought!, just that you didn’t express the same sentiment (ie. ‘same old’ ‘let them just witter on’ ‘no one really listening’) sort of reply.

Those two replies made me realise I’m overthinking this.

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:25:15

I mentioned no names! But I think if this was a business venture I might have referred it to the Monopolies Commission!

Alima Tue 04-Sep-18 08:26:08

Must admit I have never seen it that way OM. The reverse if anything. Perhaps you could provide the data required by us to make a considered contribution. I certainly couldn’t be arsed to do it.

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:29:01

PS Free speech works both ways......just saying!

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:31:05

Why should I do your reading for you Alima?

OldMeg Tue 04-Sep-18 08:33:20

Routine calls! I’ll wait the email from GN telling me off again ?

Anniebach Tue 04-Sep-18 08:34:42

Allow me to explain. I started a thread about Anti Semitism in the Labour Party. I started a thread about Frank Field who is a labour MP. I see this as no difference to threads on Theresa May, Jacob Rees Mogg and Brexit.

Grandmashe43 Tue 04-Sep-18 08:46:13

Seems strange that on a political thread, one of the main players JC, should not be discussed.

Greta8 Tue 04-Sep-18 08:52:44

Obviously not the grans on gransnet, but I think elsewhere the powers that be see the Labour party as a threat for their vested interests. God forbid we might actually get a government who actually wants to govern on behalf of everyone. My opinion is that the whole anti-Semitism thing is deliberately being whipped up in a bid to destabilise the Labour party and try to make them look unelectable.

Elegran Tue 04-Sep-18 08:55:33

I don't think there are any more anti-Corbyn posts or threads than there are pro-Corbyn ones (or pro-Corbynism ones) There is a lot going on in politics and he is a leading figure, so there is bound to be a lot of comment on him, both for and against. Perhaps the amount of attention he gets is an indication of just how beige our recent Labour leaders and their policies have been in comparison?

Anniebach Tue 04-Sep-18 08:58:30

I think racism is an important topic. More important than Mrs May’s attempt at dancing or Jacob Rees Mogg’s nanny.

Anniebach Tue 04-Sep-18 08:59:50

Greta, this thread is about me not the politics of Corbyn ?

Jane10 Tue 04-Sep-18 09:06:12

I agree Greta8!
