Is it just me ?
I don’t understand the latest trend for pouting , plumped
up lips which seem to be fashionable with many young ladies .
Some look quite painful, and what happens when they stop having it done ?
And as for sticking out tongues selfies ? .! .... No way !

I am extremely lucky to have three stunningly beautiful granddaughters who thankfully wouldn’t dream of adopting the awful lip and brow look and I’m grateful for that every time I see them.
There are some actresses on TV that I can’t watch because of their awful lips ?

Leslie Ash was lovely before she had all that lip work done, such a shame.

Purplepoppies Tue 10-Dec-19 06:14:37

Nobody remember Leslie Ash?? She did this to herself several years ago. Definitely not a new thing. But each to their own. It's a trend, like breast augmentation or butt lifts. Anyone has a right to do what they like with their body if they're in their right mind they? Because we wouldn't doesn't make it wrong. Maybe they will regret it? Who knows. I've certainly done things I regret, mostly they were fun at the time though ?.
The sticking out of the tongue for pictures isn't new either. My dd has been doing that in pictures for many years now. Not every single time. But shes mid twenties and still does it. As do both dgds. I do have photos without their tongues out thankfully. It doesn't bother me.

Nothing more unattractive than a trout pout in my opinion. Very sad that young women today still feel the need to conform with what the media put's out as "attractive". I tried to be like Twiggy, failed dismally.......

I used to say to my DD that true natural beauty was the classiest look and that, until she left home, she was having nothing dyed, pierced or tattooed. She’s 28 now and has still resisted the temptation to assist nature.

She did, however, have hair extensions and a Hollywood style face makeover for her wedding. She looked fabulous and nothing was permanent.

Our generation bought some false eyelashes or went for the latest Mary Quant dress; now it seems there is a burning need to have huge brows and those ghastly lips - and neither seems to be easily reversible and is certainly not a cheap event. OH remarked recently, after walking along our High Street on a pleasant day, that all the girls looked the same; thin, pouty, and pretty miserable too. That is probably because all models now look as if they are likely to inflict violence, such is the expression they all seem to have when stalking about. Everyone should be able to do what they want with their appearance of course - but it doesn't seem to be making anybody happy!

I confess even at 65, to wanting a little strategically placed filler to minimise the little lines on the top lip and deep lines either side of mouth and between brows. Probably silly but just to look a little less grumpy and fresher. Hard to justify the expense for a temporary fix.

MerylStreep Mon 09-Dec-19 17:17:29

Merryweather
That's because they've opted for the cheap version.

MerylStreep Mon 09-Dec-19 17:14:41

Nvella
i have yet to see anyone who has had work done look better than when etc
I have: a friend of a friends wife and a friend of my Daughter.
I don't know the details of my friends friend but I do know my daughters friend went to New York and it cost £20,000.
When I saw the 'new face' I didn't know that she'd had it done but I knew that she looked fantastic without any of the obvious signs.

Merryweather Mon 09-Dec-19 16:48:34

I might get flamed for this- but imo it's very chavy and cheap. Why do people lower their standards and not raise them? Why on earth would you want the porn star look? Surely a little class and sophistication would be a better aim?

4allweknow Mon 09-Dec-19 16:06:10

It's the pouts, eyebrows, eyelashes and the massive white teeth that seem to be the essential beauty needs. Those of course with the multicoloured acrylic nails to use to point out all the additions in the selfies.

Pete Burns was the one who eventually died after going overboard with fillers etc,a shame because he was very good looking before
Leslie Ash had something threaded through her lips, by a so called friend, not a Dr of any kindthey don't do that procedure now
Lip fillers will eventually dissolve of their own accord in time
The lip fillers now are done with anaesthetic in with the filler
I have never had that done, but i have had some cheek filler,as i have lost a lot of facial fat, but it looks very natural, not like big cheekbones, and knocked at least 5 years maybe more off my age
Nothing wrong with it if done by a qualified person, like a Dr or in my case a dentist, who knows where all the nerves are in the face
I don't smoke [stopped 7 years ago] or drink, so that is my alternative ,otherwise i couldn't afford it

Nvella Mon 09-Dec-19 15:56:48

I have yet to see anyone who has had work done look better than when they haven’t had anything done. I can’t believe they can look in the mirror and feel they are improved. Its not like wearing false eyelashes or lots of make up which is temporary. I was talking to a make up girl in a department store the other day and she says it doesn’t just go away without leaving a trace and some of the girls she has put make up on can hardly speak - their lips are so filled.

Chestnut Mon 09-Dec-19 15:44:35

If you Google search lip fillers there are some terrifying sights there. I can't imagine why anyone would take such a risk when these images are available for all to see. And the same applies to boob and bum fillers, though why anyone would actually want a big wobbly bum is beyond me.

Fiachna50 Mon 09-Dec-19 15:31:59

Annodom Leslie Ash was a lady who did not need any beauty enhancements. Miss Ash was a bonnie girl, why she decided to opt for this I do not know.

Nannyme Mon 09-Dec-19 14:38:19

Big lips yuk - please don’t get me started on slugs for eyebrows!!

Esspee Mon 09-Dec-19 14:33:30

@Luckygirl ......I have to ask........what exactly is a pussy pelmet?
visions of Mrs Slocombe

timetogo2016 Mon 09-Dec-19 14:08:02

Mebster is spot on.

Lancslass1 Mon 09-Dec-19 13:09:17

Bridgeit,no it isn’t just you.
I remember the young woman who was the first to be voted off in last year’s Apprentice had the thickest plumpest lips imaginable.
They looked awful.
This year there is an otherwise attractive woman who is doing well who has thick black painted eyebrows which look ridiculous

moggie57 Mon 09-Dec-19 13:05:03

these people look like trouts...its horrible .they meant to be (as my niece tells )desirable and meant to look like a f***y...hahaha ..i nearly wet myself laughing...

LadyGracie Mon 09-Dec-19 12:58:48

Our dentist does Botox!

If I’m flicking tv channels and come upon Botched I have to watch it and wonder why anyone would pay to disfigure their bodies so hideously.

gillyknits Mon 09-Dec-19 12:57:32

There was a picture in the newspaper yesterday showing the very latest lip filler trend. They are filled in a sort of flower shape .( Sorry can’t find the link.)

Fennel Mon 09-Dec-19 12:52:44

I haven't read the whole thread, but to me, the difference with these modern 'enhancements' is they're difficult to reverse if they go wrong.
Like boob jobs and tattoos.
Like others, I used to wear makeup and false eyelashes.

Chestnut Mon 09-Dec-19 12:49:58

Mcrc - I don't think having a bit of filler at our age is the same as 20 somethings plumping up and enlarging several parts of their bodies. When you're older and genuinely in need of a helping hand then go for it! I did think about having a bit of gentle face work done a few years ago but never did, and now I don't feel I have any reason to. hmm

pinkquartz Mon 09-Dec-19 12:49:07

I just wonder what the effect is on the body of putting those fillers in your body and face.

Is it all safe? My teen years were spent with skirts either too long or too short and Biba make up. It didn't have any ill effects and was a lot of fun.
Oh and wearing lots of patchouli oil
