I suppose I’m quite lucky really, I’m asleep within minutes of getting under the covers, I would say I have 7 hrs sleep every night, and don’t have to get up in the night to visit the bathroom, if I stop my last drink couple of hours before I go up to bed, I do have health probs too,

I need 9 hours

Joesoap Mon 07-Dec-20 13:11:26

Havent described my sleep habits:I usualy go to bed about midnight have difficulty dropping off, it takes at least an hour and a half to do this, I have arthritis in my shoulders, and left hip, making it difficult to lie anywhere, when I do get off to sleep I have broken sleep, due to pain and discomfort and I dream these vivid dreams.I could sleep all morning but try to get up by nine o clock, I try to have seven hours sleep, eight is marvellous, but pain killers never last as they are supposed to.

The menopause has scuppered a good nights sleep. Insomnia, joint pain and of course night sweats are stopping me getting any decent sleep. I nod off after reading about 11pm, but by 1am I'm awake and it continues all night long. I would just love to fall asleep every night and not waken until 7am.

I average about 5 hours, usually from 10.30pm to 4 30 am and can get about another 90 minutes, usually from around 6.30 to 7pm. I feel I would benefit more from sleeping straight through to about 7 pm which would give me 7/8 hours straight but don't stress about it by always having a good book by the bed. DH is very tolerant of the light coming on and sleeps much better. Even though he gets up several times to the loo every night, he's asleep more often than not, a soon as his head hits the pillow..

Go to bed about midnight. Use my Kindle for reading usually manage about half an hour before it lands in my face. Sometimes manage about 4 hours before waking, have another little read the hooefully manage anotge 3 or 4 hours. Some nights I'm awake until 4 or 5 am before nodding off. These days I feel fine until about 8 at night when tiredness creeps in. Stick it out until about 11 pm and then I manage a good 6 hours. No two nights are the same.

What's sleep?

Gangang Mon 07-Dec-20 13:59:46

I sleep very inconsistently - sometimes a good 6 hrs and sometimes as little as 3 hours. I am working in a very stressful job which is deadline led, however, I manage somehow and generally return home exhausted.
I've tried numerous supplements to help with my sleep as well as meditation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't!!!
I ensure that I have lots of exercise by going to the gym and dog walking. My lifestyle is healthy but sadly my sleeping pattern is not.
Here's hoping that once I retire I will be able to unwind and relax which may reflect on my sleep.

Around 7 or 8 hrs. I go up to bed about 10 and use my tablet to catch up on tv programmes that DH doesn't watch. Sometimes I manage a whole programme or even two and sometimes I am asleep befor the end of the first one. I usually wake up around 7 am and by 7.30 need to get up for a wee. As the bathroom is downstairs I stay up then and have a cup of tea. I can never nap during the day.

ExD Mon 07-Dec-20 15:16:42

I don't sleep! Well of course I DO, but
It takes me about 2 hrs to 'drop off' no matter how early or late I go to bed, if I read I do feel sleepy but by the time I've put the book down and turned off the light I'm wide awake again.
I need pain medication every 4 hrs but am usually awake again after 3hrs waiting for my next 'fix', and then there's the loo - so I'm lucky if I get 4 to 5 hours a night.
I'm tired when I wake up but after a cup of tea I feel fine and ready to go so I don't fret about it.

I haven't had what you would call a good night's sleep for many years. I fall asleep fairly quickly but can't stay asleep for long. I have a series of naps, an hour or so at a time, totalling 5hours at most a night ,if I'm lucky. I'm always tired and sometimes doze off watching TV ,but only for 10minutes or so. So envious of people who can stay asleep all night

Greciangirl Mon 07-Dec-20 16:20:10

You lucky lot. I’m envious.
I’m rarely asleep before 1am.
I have to read and listen to the radio until I feel sleepy.

I always wake around 5 or 6am. Try to doze back off until 7or 8am. Then cup of tea in bed,
So, I’m lucky to get 5 or 6 hours on a good night.

Mealybug Mon 07-Dec-20 16:20:19

Similar pattern to yours chewbacca, but it's usually for a drink of water and not always a visit to the loo. Then I have to get up at 8.30am to let hubby's carers in, some days I just want to stay in bed for another hour uninterrupted.

Kseniya Mon 07-Dec-20 17:05:02

I think I need 8-10 hours, a little more than the statistics of others. the main thing is not to stay up too late, otherwise the state is bad

Shizam Mon 07-Dec-20 18:14:55

Wish I wasn’t a night owl. Exhausted at 6pm. Come 10/11pm, I’m wide awake. Getting to sleep is hard. Then next day, getting up is harder. I envy all of you who have a good sleep regime!

Grandmama Mon 07-Dec-20 19:11:23

A maximum of 5 to 6 hours during which I wake maybe three times. I generally go straight to sleep then wake after an hour, then wake again after a couple more hours and I'm often awake by about 5am waiting for the alarm at 6am. Over the last few months the bags under my eyes have worsened. Would love a full night's sleep.

Sawsage2 Mon 07-Dec-20 22:02:44

Bed around 2am, up around 10.30am. No prob.

My mum used to say that one hours sleep before midnight was worth two hours after and I think she was probably right but I don’t go to sleep till way after midnight. If I don’t get enough sleep I might as well not bother to get up at all as I can’t function properly. As for trips to the loo, I lose count. But why do I need to go to the loo more often in the night than the daytime??

Txquiltz Tue 08-Dec-20 01:48:54

ExD is my twin. After years of shift rotations at work, I think I “broke my sleeper”. I manage to sleep about 3 hours a night, in broken segments. I might get a 30 minute nap during the day. The doctor wants me to take 2 melatonin at bedtime. I think I could take two bottles of it and still not sleep.

I can go to bed tired out but as soon as my head hits the pillow I wake up. When I do manage to fall asleep I have to get up to go to the toilet. If I'm lucky I get about six hours a night.

I can generally get to sleep but wake after a few hours feeling wide awake. I used to find knitting helped but I have run out of motivation any anyway it is too cold to get up.
