Please accept my apologies for infringing GN rules.

I was only aiming to inform those who might be interested.

I have no connection with, or vested interest in, the venture I mentioned.

Sorry but no idea what you are talking about Persistantdonor

RosieLeah Mon 04-Feb-19 06:47:18

I'm curious now to know what it was. I only log in once a day and seem to miss a lot.

NfkDumpling Mon 04-Feb-19 07:55:02

Oh, I do hate these deleted remarks and threads. I only seem to spot them when they’ve been taken down and have no idea what they’re about. Very annoying for someone as nosy as me.

kittylester Mon 04-Feb-19 08:10:32

Me too nfk!grin

It was about an advert for a knitting holiday in France that I thought would be gorgeous if I could go, and thought others may be able to.
But I did not know I was not allowed to supply the link on this public forum.....

BlueBelle Mon 04-Feb-19 08:47:59

I missed that thread Persistent not that I m a knitter maybe you can tell people all about it and then if anyone asks for the link you could p m it
I m not sure why your thread was deleted if it wasn’t an obviously firm advertising perhaps someone at Gransnet can come on and explain why as it sounds fairly innocuous

Persistentdonor Mon 04-Feb-19 09:07:36

Thanks BlueBelle.
It was blatant advertising because I thought it looked so nice.... in the Dordogne, at a farmhouse, knitting or crochet sessions and visits locally and eating out.
(Oddly, this now supplies more information than my first messaage. hmm )
I supplied the link which seemed like the simple thing to do, you know, if you are interested click, if not, don't!!
But apparently lots of people complained. sad
Truly, I have no connection with, or vested interest in, the venture I mentioned.
Of course I had not realised there is a no advertising policy.
Any way, I do like your suggestion, and will be happy to comply if anyone cares to get in touch. smile

Buffybee Mon 04-Feb-19 09:27:29

Oh don't worry about it Persistentdonor, there are a few on Gransnet who think they are the 'thread Police' and report any misdemeanor they can find to GNHQ.
Pity they haven't anything better to do!

Marydoll Mon 04-Feb-19 09:30:12

Persistentdonor, don't worry, it was a genuine mistake!

You won't be on a blacklist or anything! grin

Riverwalk Mon 04-Feb-19 09:34:58

I often post links to Ocado food items which I think people would like and others post links to Lakeland, Hotter shoes, etc.

Maybe one of the 'lot of people' who complained can explain why they did!

Persistentdonor Mon 04-Feb-19 09:42:36

Thank you Ladies. smile

Riverwalk Mon 04-Feb-19 09:51:01

I've just posted a link to a walking/bridge holiday - hope it's not deleted!

FountainPen Mon 04-Feb-19 09:59:43

I've just seen that Riverwalk. I guess that's how the mods see it. If you post a link to a commercial site as a response to a question then it's acceptable. Otherwise it's assumed to be someone with a vested interest in the thing being promoted.

I keep looking at the Knit for Peace holidays in India but they are beyond my pocket. Signposts to companies offering knitting holidays overseas but more affordable would be welcome.

Lazigirl Mon 04-Feb-19 10:00:03

Gransnet is only free to users I guess, like any other internet business, because advertisers pay for access to this site. I presume they don't want any firms getting free publicity hmm I think it's difficult for posters because we quite innocently want to share our ideas about products or experiences with others.

Persistentdonor Mon 04-Feb-19 10:00:59

FountainPen, I will be happy to discuss this with youif you care to pm me.

Nonnie Mon 04-Feb-19 10:02:00

This is a 'thread about a thread' so will be deleted any minute!

Persistentdonor Mon 04-Feb-19 10:02:29

Quite so Lazigirl, though I am guessing the farmhouse in the Dorgogne is not a multi-national!

Persistentdonor Mon 04-Feb-19 10:05:09

Nonnie, do you think so?
I have been very careful not give give names/links; only responding to comments by other users.
hmm

Greenfinch Mon 04-Feb-19 10:36:28

I suppose our recommendations about certain brands of washing machines on another thread could be construed as advertising.confused

BlueBelle Mon 04-Feb-19 11:10:17

I can’t see why anyone would complain about a link unless it was the owner or some other connection doing the posting for gain
Lots of people will ask about furniture, clothes, holidays etc posting a link which is no problem to anyone so I think you were just unlucky there Persistent some over zealous reporters I think but strange that Head quarters acted on it so quickly when so much goes on for pages before they do
Don’t let it deter you

Nonnie Mon 04-Feb-19 16:40:44

Ah Persistent it is about a deleted thread so a 'thread about a thread'. Don't worry, HQ decide which threads to delete depending on whether they have cake or not grin

NfkDumpling Tue 05-Feb-19 07:03:14

A knitting holiday? Was that it? I feel quite disappointed!

Perhaps it was one of GN’s advertisers who complained. I don’t look at the ads so don’t know if a knitting holiday is one.

There have been a few blatent advertising posts so perhaps someone was just over zealous in their policing.

Persistentdonor Tue 05-Feb-19 08:32:34

NfkDumpling, it was a knitting holiday.

I simply said that it looked gorgeous and I wished I could go, then supplied the link, but obviously that inflamed people as I was politely informed there had been lots of complaints.

Riverwalk Tue 05-Feb-19 08:58:07

I see no-one has 'fessed-up to complaining! grin

In the past GNHQ has said that they don't have a problem with links to products/companies as long as they're not a blatant pitch for free advertising, so it's odd that they deleted your thread on the grounds of complaints rather than breaking a rule.hmm

I do wish a complainer would come and say why they did so.
