Random heading I know but I listened to Steve Wright on Radio 2 who had a doctor on his show talking about Alzheimer's. He maintained that one of the early signs was someone not being able to smell peanut butter. Now having had a TIA about 12 years ago I have more or less lost my sense of smell. Should I be worried. Has anybody else heard of this. I'm off to buy some peanut butter.

If he meant that all people with Alzheimer's can't smell peanut butter (which I've never heard of) then it might be like:
"all robins are birds but not all birds are robins"
i.e
All of those with Alzheimer's can't smell peanut butter, but not all people who can't smell have Alzheimer's.

My H who has Alzheimer's has no sense of smell at all. We were told this is one of the symptoms.

My parents both had AZ and I suspect my dad had lost his sense of smell as I went round one day and the house was full of gas which he couldn't smell. I have heard that it can be an early sign of AZ. I subsequently lost my sense of smell (anosmia) 6 years ago due to a viral infection so won't be able to use it as a sign for me! I would think that after 12 years its not an indication you're going down that route so I wouldn't worry too much.
