An odd assumption that if someone asks for a household tip it is the only thing on their mind!!

Who said it was the only thing on Humpty's mind, Nelliemoser?

I use white vinegar in the wash but I always tumble dry too.

See the other thread on jumpers. I've just posted on that that I use white vinegar like pittcity

If the only thing on my mind was finding how to make sure my towels were soft. I think I would give up right now.

I use white vinegar instead of conditioner. This helps clean the detergent off and softens.

Most conditioners seem to say not suitable for towelling when you read the small print on the back of the container.

Buy really good quality towels. I have expensive ones and cheap ones and the expensive ones stay soft and fluffy but I need loads of fabric conditioner for the cheaper ones. Just out of interest; why don't you like conditioner?

Do what we used to do to terry nappies......rub them when they are dry!

If you dont like conditioner, just iron them with a hot iron.
I find this makes the towels quite soft.

Evening all!

I don't have a tumble dryer or outdoor drying space, so am lost for what to do to avoid really hard towels when dry after washing. I'm not keen on using conditioner, any tips on how to end up with soft towels much appreciated smile
