Whatever the medium, it caught the imagination of a lot of people and it worked for this campaign. Some things touch people's heart, but you can't always plan it that way.

I think more women go without makeup these days, though, perhaps reserving it for nights out. However, I have been out of the world of work for some time now, so may be out of touch somewhat.

To be fair to Cancer Research though, they didn't initiate the selfie campaign.

They were mentioned on the selfie thread, nonu – the implication, for instance, that being a makeupless woman in public is anything remarkable. That, to me, is a troubling connotation.

Oxfam's Mother's Day card appeal has, in my opinion, none of the troubling connotations and implications that the selfie campaign has while still being a "cool" marketing fundraising ploy.
