Can we leave Margaret Thatcher in peace for a wee while, please?

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 18:02:22

That's what I was trying to say!

Sorry – meant had a married life and had children together – maybe even a son.

Arthur did marry Catherine which is why Henry could claim that he wasn't legally married to her.

Nellie grin

Is one of princess Anne's daughter's name "Primark" ? wink

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 13:09:51

Marry her! angry

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 13:09:33

Marty her!

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 13:09:06

I thought he did marry Henry? That was the grounds he was using for divorce. Arthur came down from his bridal bed saying 'tonight I have been in spain'

Galen I think Prince Arthur's death remains a mystery. King John was accused of stabbing him and chucking him in the Seine but there is no evidence that he did.

As for the later Arthur – how different English history would have been had he survived and married Catherine of Aragon.

Boudicca?

janeainsworth Sat 13-Apr-13 12:52:00

Gally Is your daughter really Georgiana? I think it's a wonderful name.
Quite a possibility too, as the Georgiana was an ancestor of the baby's paternal grandmother.
Odd to think of Diana as a Grandma confused.
Royal babies always have at least four names, so plenty of scope for both tradition and modernity.
I don't suppose when Princess Anne named her daughter, she imagined that one day the baby would share her name with a low-end clothing chain grin

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 12:29:04

Wasn't the other murdered by John?

Nelliemoser Sat 13-Apr-13 12:22:59

I think at last two Prince Arthurs have died in childhood. Henry Vllls older brother for one.

Nelliemoser Sat 13-Apr-13 12:20:50

Tuppence! That is used as a euphemism for a vagina!

Child cruelty! IMO wink

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 12:18:26

Hilda after Hilda of Whitby? A very powerful lady!

Galen Arthur is one Prince Charles's names – Charles Phillip Arthur George – although I have a feeling that Lady Diana Spencer said them in the wrong order at their wedding.

Maggiemaybe Norman royals on an English throne, whether Maud (Empress Matilda) or Stephen and Matilda (his wife). Not really our first female ruler in an inclusive way.

Galen Sat 13-Apr-13 11:39:17

If its a girl how about Ethelfleda. A boy Arthur

Maggiemaybe Sat 13-Apr-13 11:28:36

As a Margaret (officially), I sincerely hope it'll never be coming back! smile

Still, as you say Nonny, there are loads of short forms - one site says 97. Some are quite trendy now - Maggie (but of course), Meg, Peggy, Daisy, Maisie, Pearl... Who knows, even Madge might make a comeback one day.

For the Royal baby, I like Matilda - our first female ruler, usurped due to rampant sexism and never mentioned in the list of monarchs. Typical.

Gally grin

Gally Sat 13-Apr-13 10:44:35

Talking of names - I've just read a birth announcement in a certain paper
'a son Biggles and a daughter Posie, bro and sis for Tuppence'. More ideas for Kate and Wills? grin

Gally Thu 11-Apr-13 23:30:25

Gillybob grin

Gally Thu 11-Apr-13 23:28:18

Zane, Cody, Cory, Tully, Mason, Fletcher, Murphy, Nelson, Tyler, Phoenix, Indie - just a few of my DGS's pals in Oz. I could go on but it's a bit painful wink
Hope they go for something like Alice or Arthur - I'm just a bit old hat when it comes to names..........

Nelliemoser Thu 11-Apr-13 19:41:42

lullyd My class had all those names as well! It was the babyboomer effect.
