While we don't want to become alchies, a drop of the hard stuff or a glass of wine does help to relax us, and this relaxation is good for us.I certainly won't stop. This is one form of advertising that I can resist!

rosesarered Wed 16-Jul-14 12:43:30

When old people start falling over in the street and throwing up in city centres every Sat night, that's when they can start lecturing us.That's apart from the few [one] that fell over in Tenerife [in the tv prog the other night.]

I was just about to agree wholeheartedly, but then remembered my unfortunate incident with the wheelie bin blush

HollyDaze Wed 16-Jul-14 12:57:40

With the (what seems like) constant bombardment of advice (or do's and don'ts, whichever you feel more comfortable with) - does anyone else get moved to swearing sometimes blush

MiniMouse

I suppose the anti-drink lobby could argue that, if she didn't drink, she may have lived to be 150 . . . grin

Lidl is supposed to be selling some good vintages come September.

Himself loves their full fat greek yog, salamis .

We lived a miserable existence on hydrogenated crap spread, now enjoy [him] not me beef, and all the noughties.

Him full fat milk, me zero, but I prefer the taste and I hope it tops up my calcuim levels, tho perhaps not.

Notso Wed 16-Jul-14 18:39:53

I saw a consultant earlier in the year and asked his advice about a range of things that could potentially help or hinder my situation. Re exercise, his advice was 'Try to do a bit each day, just what you can manage' Re diet, his advice was 'Eat what you like, but don't go mad' Then I asked ....what about wine?.......... and his advice was 'Drink twice as much as you were before today'

True story smile

sparkygran Wed 16-Jul-14 18:57:57

Oh Notso who`s your consultant he should be nominated for an honour in the next Honours List. As for you phoenix are you prepared to reveal your incident with a wheelie bin - I`m intrigued for one.

Thanks for tip re Lidl jollyg I`ll be off and running come September but must say they do a very good Chianti which I am currently hooked on.

However, this was the Daily Mail so believe what you wish!!

merlotgran Wed 16-Jul-14 19:18:10

rosequartz Wed 16-Jul-14 19:21:25

Nonu Wed 16-Jul-14 19:24:35

KatyK Wed 16-Jul-14 19:31:58

sparky smile wine

Anne58 Wed 16-Jul-14 19:43:14

I tried to post a link to the thing about the wheelie bin, but some how it all went wrong.

For those who haven't seen/read it before, try searching "Arnica" within the GN website, not google, or you could be there all day.

Anne58 Wed 16-Jul-14 19:46:29

I think I may have managed it:

MrsJamJam Wed 16-Jul-14 20:00:10

As I sit here browsing GN with a glass of chilled pink, soon to share a bottle of red with DH over a healthy dinner, I am hugely cheered that there are so many kindred spirits here. I feel totally happy with my diet, which includes a wide range of varied foods and makes me feel good. I shall continue to ignore doctors as much as possible, unless I can find the one who recommended more wine!

In my experience it is the practice nurse (about 30 and thin) who says lose weight. I just think wait until you get to 65! If I lost weight now I would be all wrinkly. Yuk!

annodomini Wed 16-Jul-14 20:01:52

It did me a world of good to read that again, phoenix. grin And, BTW, comfrey is reputed to be good for bruises (as a poultice) and, incidentally, broken bones. Its 'folk' name is knitbone. But I think I'd call the ambulance for that.

rosequartz Wed 16-Jul-14 20:02:23

Mrs JamJam, my mother always said when you get older it's either your face or your figure!

MrsJamJam Wed 16-Jul-14 20:10:25

I've made my choice, and life is for living!

Coolgran65 Thu 17-Jul-14 00:01:08

I've just read the link to phoenix' wheelie bin incident... brilliant. We all need a chuckle ....
