Bagging a Black Friday bargain

Are any of you tempted to join in the apparent rush for bargains this Friday? I just think it's another ploy to get us to spend more money( I'm getting very cynical in my old age) I'd rather wait for the January sales when I'V recovered from Christmas.

The discount on the Molton Brown website was 20% but the 30% offer came through my bank, certain accounts get special offers smile

Oh harrigran I'm envy. Glad I didn't know they were discounted because I can't afford any this month.

harrigran Sat 29-Nov-14 00:13:48

I bought Molton Brown smellies with 30% off this morning, quite a saving.

We went to Sainsbury's and it was just like a normal Friday - although there was 25% off if you bought six bottles of wine. Did not get a chance to bargain hunt as DH had had enough after helping do the weekly shop!

After reading all the Black Friday stuff,I didn't go out until 7.00pm to collect something from Homebase that had to be collected today and all the roads were clear. We also went in to our local branch of B&M Bargains and it was really quite festive with carols and Christmas decorations and the local army cadet force collecting for charity. We were offered a mince pie, but we had just had supper so didn't really want anymore to eat.

I've been shopping just outside Clitheroe, had a nice lunch, glass of wine, bought a couple of candles - no fighting, pushing or shoving though!
Each to his own I suppose.

Is it because there is less money around?
That causes people to go the extra mile.

NfkDumpling Fri 28-Nov-14 18:21:02

Just watching the news now. It's really shocking. The January sales used to be bad enough but this......?

Lona Fri 28-Nov-14 18:17:15

They've been fighting and hitting/pushing children over/trampling people underfoot!
Is that the way to get a bargain? For goodness sake?

petallus Fri 28-Nov-14 18:11:28

I'm not shocked or disgusted. It's capitalism.

Actually, it's nearly as bad in the January sales.

bookdreamer Fri 28-Nov-14 17:59:15

Just like Boxing Day or the January sales

bookdreamer Fri 28-Nov-14 17:55:12

People are trying to get a bargain!! For goodness sake

suevie34 Fri 28-Nov-14 17:37:36

The tv pictures certainly are shocking Lona. I am disgusted. 'Black Friday' is an unwelcome import if it results in the sheer mayhem that I saw today.

Lona Fri 28-Nov-14 17:19:09

The tv pictures are shocking! What is happening to people? Greed!
I find it utterly repulsive and I wonder how much will be put on credit by folk who can't really afford it?

I was going to buy hubby some things from Bonmarche for Christmas, and have just spotted that there`s 25% off everything bought online up to midnight tonight, so will be buying shortly, and collecting in store to save delivery charges.

rosesarered Fri 28-Nov-14 15:58:25

I had never heard of this before DH told me this morning, when he had seen the news. The scenes on tv were unbelievable, men and women fighting and shrieking over plasma tv's and the like.As POGS says, like a pack of hyenas.I kept well away from all supermarkets today.

ginny Fri 28-Nov-14 15:34:22

Wouldn't catch me at the shops today and I'll leave on line shopping till the rush has died down.

Can't stand sales and places like T k Max dive me mad.

Charleygirl Fri 28-Nov-14 15:33:22

ninathenana those working on live help will be tossing a coin to decide who will deal with me yet again!

absentgrandma Fri 28-Nov-14 14:51:32

Yet another' 'bonkers ' idea that's made it across the Atlantic. How sad do you have to be to fight over a 40 inch TV?

Life's just too short to waste it trying to save a few quid on something you don't really need anyway.

POGS Fri 28-Nov-14 14:21:20

Good grief some of them look like they belong in a pack of hyena's.

ninathenana Fri 28-Nov-14 13:41:47

My daft DD has gone to Lakeside today, madness!!

Her excuse, it's the only day SO and her are off together.

Nelliemoser Fri 28-Nov-14 13:40:17

Ok! So I went shopping feeling unimpressed about Black Friday and what did I do? I bought a new Samsung internet phone on a Black Friday offer for the grand sum of about £70 (it was £130) and ten pounds a month internet contract.
I had planned to buy a new one! Honest.

This phone cost less than my first Nokia mobile in 1997. I now need to learn how to use it.

ninathenana Fri 28-Nov-14 13:38:41

Charleygirl I have bought DH that Kindle. He will need the live help grin
Mine arrived on Wednesday.

I would never, ever go "proper" shopping on days like this, but pride myself on rarely paying full price for anything either. I bagged a couple of good bargains from Amazon's pre-Black Friday promotion earlier this week. A coffee maker for BIL's birthday for a third of the usual Amazon price, a couple of nice wooden jigsaws and a cute little remote controlled robot for half price for when the DGSs come round, and my best buy, a top of the range Vax for £50. All delivered already. I always check current selling prices (not RRP) before I buy and the Vax was on sale at Amazon, Tesco and Argos for £199, £240 and £245 respectively. The danger is being lured into buying things you don't really need or want.

petallus Our local Charity Shop had the most beautiful Windsmoor 3/4 coat in wool & cashmere on Monday I tried every which way to make it fit with no luck,it was a 12 and I need a 14,I even considered moving the buttons but the shape of the coat would have ruined.hmm so not meant to be.
