DH jokingly put himself forward as an extra for some filming last year but wasn't selected. Out of the blue, however, he's been contacted by the agency for a job filming in the Highlands in September! He's got through 3 selection stages- including the photo round - and is still in the running. I think it's because he has a beard and moustache and the film is set in Victorian Scotland. In fact it's about Queen Victoria after the death of John Brown and guess who's playing the Queen? Only Dame Judi Dench! I'll be so disappointed if he's not selected....it's a paid job as well!

Fame at last, well done!

My god-daughter has worked on a film with Judi Dench and she said the minutes she walks on set everything goes perfectly. Such a professional and very good at putting everyone at ease too. Hope all goes well.

Not that I'd want to get out of it-it's taken18 months of rehearsal with adults with additional learning needs to get this piece ready. It's very exciting for everybody.

I would love to go so I could spend couple of days with 2 dgs but, unfortunately, I'm actually stage managing in local theatre that week. Typical.

How exciting! Will you be able to go with him?

Katek Fri 19-Aug-16 10:05:31

He's got his filming dates-5/6 Sept in and around Aviemore. DS/Dil stay only half an hour away from there so he's already booked his room!

DS2 was 'a gentleman dancing at the garden party' in Alice in Wonderland, but didn't get to meet Jonny Depp. We just spotted him for a split second. It was very long days but well paid and he loved it. His hair (dandelion clock style at the time) helped get him the job.

Katek

That's good news for your hubby. I would love to be an extra in a film and see how it's all done, jealous , Moi.

Problem is if you are typecast the question is how do I get to know when they are looking for the next batch of Ooompa Loompas?

Grannylyn65, wrong thread I think?

watermeadow Sat 13-Aug-16 18:42:06

My cousin in Scotland used to be a regular extra in a detective series, he thought he was picked because of his beard. They've evidently retired him and are looking for a replacement!

grannylyn65 Sat 13-Aug-16 16:34:07

Kipling bag? At the very least, Milk Tray ?

grannyactivist Sat 13-Aug-16 16:30:50

One of my close friends is on the books as an Extra, but as yet hasn't been free for the parts on offer. (Her daughter had the starring role in an Indie film recently.) She says the pay is actually quite good, but really I know it's the whole acting thing that's the draw - my friend is a wonderful singer and actress (seen her in lots of am dram musicals) who would have lived to have a career on stage. Her daughters are both singer/actresses and are living their mum's dream.

Katek it's looking promising - do tell us if he gets chosen. smile

Really exciting! My Sister in Law is quite often an extra in TV programmes and really enjoys it.

KatyK Sat 13-Aug-16 16:03:27

How exciting smile We were almost in Doc Martin once! We were on holiday in Port Isaac and we were sitting on the beach watching them film. Martin Clunes walked past a few times but we were just out of shot. They were handing out some disclaimers or something to some bystanders who were obviously going to be in shot.

Penstemmon Sat 13-Aug-16 15:35:53

We have a friend who is an extra. He has been in loads of films and TV but I never really spot him until he tells me exactly where to look in a scene!
He was a medic in Skyfall checking how well JB was doing in the gym and was an 'aristocrat' of some sort at several gatherings in Downton! but I still failed to recognise him!

Katek Sat 13-Aug-16 14:55:02

I like your thinking auntieflo!

Auntieflo Sat 13-Aug-16 14:03:01

Katek, good luck to your husband. If, and when he gets the part, he can buy you a Kipling bag smile

Willow500 Sat 13-Aug-16 06:34:23

That sounds such fun - hope he gets the gig smile My DIL was/is a wig dresser and make up artist and worked in several West End productions, films and on Downton for years until they emigrated to her native NZ 3 years ago. She's just been offered another stint on Game of Thrones - filming starts in Spain in Oct which would mean her bringing our two small grandsons over - she wouldn't leave them all that time. Whilst I'm thrilled at the prospect that we might see them I am concerned that it is a big disruption to their lives. The lure of all those Dothraki men to make up might just tip the balance though grin

Good luck to your husband Katek X

My dear uncle who was a paratrooper in ww2 was an extra in an Alan Ladd film from the 50's set during the war. He can be seen leaping out of a plane along with about 50 other men. Not that you can tell who he is!
