I remember my Mum telling me the story of a neighbour a few doors away who left her baby outside in its pram overnight at the bottom of the garden! She had a large family of about 9 children and apparently didn’t realise that the baby was still outdoors. shock
It really did happen, it wasn’t a tall story.

I've been left outside a shop when I was a baby. My mother told me she quickly walked back to get me. I told her, "you mean RAN?!" Nope she walked back because she believed I'd be fine...and I was! Baby brain definitely exits!

I think "baby brain" means a new mum cannot think of anything apart from the baby. I don't think it's a catch-all for forgetfulness. It's a protective thing for the child.

`I thought Baby Brain was a sort of temporary dementia brought on by recent motherhood and lack of sleep. It also dims the memory of what pregnancy and child birth are really like.

Imagine just leaving a baby outside a shop, or anywhere nowadays! You can't safely leave your dog.

Back in the early 1970's it was normal to leave small baby sleeping in large pram parked up outside of shops. I had a dog, and he would lie down next to pram when I went into shops, Unless people knew him, he was a good method of preventing people touching the pram, - those who did know him also knew that the worst he would do would be jump up and lick strangers!!!
I left my darling first born, outside a shop when he was a few weeks old, as I walked down the High Street I kept trying to hang the pram bag back on his hooks at the front of the pram, then I realised what I had done.
A few years later, when we were being advised locally not to leave prams, babies, etc outside (a baby had been snatched from a pram not too far away), I can remember having a serious row with library staff. Wanted to take my 4 yrs and 5 yrs old children in (during the week, it was not busy), but had a 18 month toddler in an umbrella type pushchair and they told me I had to leave her outside. At the same time they were permitting elderly people take inside their wheeled shopping trolleys. I insisted on taking all three of my children in with me, defying them, telling to call the police (they did not), but also I went to the local newspaper and a photo and an article in there a couple of weeks later, and libraries were instructed not to prevent these small, narrow pushchairs from going inside.

I left my son at the bacon counter in asda hubby was pushing the trolley then we swapped over he was pushing buggy and I the trolley we were at the checkout before we realised he was still there! Son often tells people that I traumatised him and never eats bacon!!!!

There was a pop art wall poster I saw a lot in the 90's. A glamorous woman with a shocked expression and a thought bubble above her head "oh my God, I left the baby on the bus". I remember seeing it a lot. (It obviously resonated?)

Not left, but .... had a mad morning, baby was demanding, washing machine flooded, suddenly 11.50 and had to collect son from nursery at 12. Throw baby in pram grap coat and ran the 15 minute walk, going passed school looking to see if no 1 son outplaying as I ran past, suddenly hit me, baby in pram, son in class, where’s no2 son, panic, where have I left him. Oh yes nursery !
