I’m going to have a g&t on the balcony and admire the sunset, then watch “Montalbano.” Then a nice early night with some short stories by Graham Greene.
To think in my teenage years, twenties and even thirties I thought it was really sad to be in on a Saturday night!

Jomarie Sat 01-Jun-19 22:15:43

Made a quickie carbonara - watched soap awards - replied to texts from sister and now going to walk the dog round the block for last foray then to bed with my kindle and hot water bottle - (which I will consign to the outer regions of my double bed until about 4am when I will gather it to me and hopefully go back to sleep) then here we go again - if we're lucky. grin

After a lazy day we had a barbecue, a glass of red wine and now watching and listening to Brian Cox descriptions of the planets and the BBC Symphony Orchestra performing the Planets Suite.
Lovely.

The last two posts sound like a script/scene from "Mum" - real life is so different for so many smile

Entertaining 2 friends from Bulgaria and Ukraine and their granddaughters. They have come to the uk to take the grandchildren to Wembley Arena to see a concert.
I thought they must be mad but they promised the girls that if they did well in their exams that was the prize.
I think I would have promised something closer to home grin

Forgot to add that we walked down to the beach to show them a tide. They've never seen one, living on the Black Sea.

Husband just got back from the bar downstairs where he watched the football.

I’ve just finished watching a DVD - an old favourite - ‘Anne of the Thousand Days’ with Richard Burton & Genevieve Bujold (gosh she was gorgeous). Just Googled it. She is Canadian, still with us aged 76y and the film was made in 1969.

Doncha just love being able to look stuff up? Years ago we wouldn’t know most of that, just be wondering about it!

Looks like I'm on Gransnet this evening!

I am really struggling to keep quite. My sons partner is very verbal, never wrong, I am finding it difficult to cope with. She has a good heart in some respects but continues to pick at our grandaughter who is 5years old. I had an extremely hard upbringing, no love and picked on growing up and it really upsets me when she picks away. When I have my grandaughter we play quite happily and I have no reason to scold her, she has her moments but on the whole she's a well behaved girl.. If I say anything she knows best! She will get upset because she doesn't like to think she is in the wrong. She doesn't have many friends, my son says she has a good heart and means well but it's getting to the point where I don't want her at my house because I cannot bear to hear her niggle at my grandaughter, she has no right surely. I find it difficult because I have been there from day 1....she has no children herself and knows it all. O dear I sound awful moaning on but I am so upset about it all.

I got carried away with Prof Brian Cox and the Planets by Holst. Practicing tunisian crochet, and completely forgot about Montalbano.? Spurs lost the Champions League final so I'm off to bed in disgust!

Out at a 60s evening, great band, the Beaucrees, who have been going strong since 1963. All the old favourites, danced our socks off and a fish and chip supper (and home made cakes as I has plently to use up!)

Will pay for it tomorrow - or should I say, today! grin

Settling down for a quiet evening with The Wonderful Man and adult son then I had a surprise visit from my Chinese 'granddaughter'* and her mum that made my day, but sadly it was all too brief. smile

* I was 'adopted' by the family and have become their surrogate mum and grandmother. I was present for the baby's birth and was given the honour (responsibility) of naming her.

I'm a day late, it's Sunday here but last night I was at a star-studded party (7 Dames and 3 Knights in attendance) for Dame June Mariu's 86th birthday.

June and I (plus many of the other dignitaries) have known one another over 3 decades, so it was just brilliant hearing about her many achievements and how warmly people felt towards her.

I also caught up with many friends I hadn't seen for a while. It was a nice change from only seeing one another at funerals which happens more and more often these days. smile

Rolypoly55 have you tried telling your son's partner how similar treatment damaged you? I take it the little girls is not hers as you say she has no right. Then your son should stop it once and for all.

It was very interesting reading all these posts! I feel as though I have had a whirl around the world, a garden here, a beach there, a very posh party, a pub....
I remember going out on a Saturday night and getting ready with my friends, then dancing round our handbags and hoping not to be the one left in the corner when the last dance came on. I’m not sure I really enjoyed those Saturday nights!

TerriBull Sun 02-Jun-19 07:49:57

We sat outside, with a bottle of wine, lovely evening looking down our gardens (communal) to the Thames beyond with the bobbing boats on their moorings. Then we came in and watched Montalbano and I went to sleep dreaming of
"balcony" envy although I don't fancy his chances if Sicily were unfortunate enough to suffer a Tsunami shock

BlueSapphire Sun 02-Jun-19 08:31:32

Sat in the garden with a gin and bitter lemon, and the cats, till 6ish, enjoying the lovely sunshine.
Then came in and cooked myself a steak, which I enjoyed with a glass of red wine ?.
Watched Brian Cox and Holst's Planets Suite.
Messed around on my tablet for a while, then bed.

DoraMarr Sun 02-Jun-19 09:00:55

* Bluesapphire * that sounds like a perfect evening! I’ve recorded the Planets to watch sometime- it had excellent reviews.

rubysong Sun 02-Jun-19 09:07:00

I spent the evening reboiling strawberry jam which hadn't set. Now it is really too firm! It is for a WI competition. Maybe I will have another batch today and try and get it right. After that I relaxed with a jigsaw and catching up on Chelsea Flower Show TV recorded last week.

Callistemon Sun 02-Jun-19 10:18:58

Jomarie - real life is not usually like that for me but I had an accident so am forced into unaccustomed laziness smile

Callistemon Sun 02-Jun-19 10:21:07

Although I should add that I did manage to find the match online for DH so he was rushing between that and watching tv with me as I lolled around lazily!

Callistemon Sun 02-Jun-19 10:23:04

DoraMarr I think The Planets may be repeated on Thursday - I hope so as I missed the beginning

ninathenana Sun 02-Jun-19 10:43:49

Saturday's evening meal is always something quick and simple. Last night we had hotdogs and salad. No alcohol involved.
Then I sat in my favourite chair by the open patio doors, which I didn't close until dark. I watched Casualty and an episode of Rebus on Sky Drama. DH was painting by numbers.
If I'm going out on a Saturday, or any night I need at least a weeks notice to physic myself up. It's all too much effort these days.

watermeadow Sun 02-Jun-19 19:01:07

I don’t like Sundays, I don’t see or hear from anyone and it’s the day I do the housework. Boring.
Now sitting with my feet up on the sofa, little dog sleeping beside me. I have a good book and the radio. Boring.

Greyduster Sun 02-Jun-19 19:40:10

After a home made steak and kidney pudding and two glasses of red, I ventured out into the garden to tie up some plants that seemed to be getting a battering. It has been raining and very windy for most of the day, so it was nice to be outside.

BlueSapphire Sun 02-Jun-19 21:23:47

DoraMarr, it would have been perfect if DH were here!

DoraMarr Sun 02-Jun-19 21:28:01

I’m having a glass of wine with a spaghetti carbonara after putting my grandaughter to bed very late (shh! Don’t tell mum and dad!)
