Good Morning Mick (good luck with your clues) and all who follow.
Dark and damp with a wet forecast for later.

Two shops today and a phone call to return.

Thinking of you gilly and everyone else poorly.
Enjoy the wedding Urmstongran

Good Morning to all and to those who follow from a very dark and cold Fife, it's only 3 degrees at the moment. Up early today as we have DGS's. One for morning then delivery to nursery and the other for the whole day but he is such a joy. So a busy day for us. Thinking of gillly and of course anyone else with ailments or troubles. Hope Friday is good to everyone

Good morning everyone. Northampton is still dark and very damp.

Nice lunch out yesterday with my two ex-teaching colleagues from the 1970s - we had lots to catch up on!

Flu jab this morning then coffee in M&S Food and top-up shop. School run this afternoon. I have told DGD we can make pancakes after school.

Thinking of all with troubles and worries, and hoping for better news.

Morning Mick and All.

Dark and cold in South Bucks, rain is on its way.

Looking fwd to hearing where you are off to Mick

We’ve decided that we can’t manage the bloomin’ housework anymore and have our neighbour’s cleaner coming in for the first time. We’ve tidied up so much everywhere looks pretty reasonable.

If only the Gillybobs could have some improvement. It is so draining being in a hospital environment. ?

kittylester Fri 25-Oct-19 07:21:16

Morning all from a cold and dark North Leicestershire.

I intend to iron this morning and also drive to the next village to send a parcel. Our large village still doesn't have one of it's own.

Dh has a dreadful cold (why are his always worse than anyone else's confused) so I will be being terribly attentive if only to make sure he can drive me to and from my pedicure appointment. grin

Thinking of dragonfly today and, as always. sending love to the gillybobs and anyone else with worries.

Urmstongran Fri 25-Oct-19 07:22:08

Good morning everyone from a very dark but dry South Manchester. I’ve been awake for an hour reading the papers on line.

Wedding today at 2pm in Worsley. Dear Reader, you will be relieved to know I was able to shimmy into that silk dress with the aid of a reinforced undergarment. Not as relieved as I was! I only tried it on yesterday (I was in denial and anxious it wouldn’t fit) and I don’t like shopping so if it hadn’t that would have meant popping into the Trafford Centre to buy a new dress.
?

I’m looking forward to the wedding. I had my hair ‘dressed’ yesterday and slept like a geisha - no lying on my left side as it would flatten my artfully teased waves. Vanity eh?

Our eldest daughter will be driving over from Leeds with her partner and our youngest daughter and son in law have arranged childcare for the smalls so they can attend. Let’s paaartay!
Wedding ? ???

Hope we all have a good Friday (actually I was looking for a Saturday thread! - remember when weddings were always on Saturdays? Ha!) whether we have any plans or none. x

Special best wishes to gillybob it goes without saying you’re in my thoughts each day dear lady. x

dragonfly46 Fri 25-Oct-19 07:27:34

Good morning from dark Leicestershire.

First chemo today although they may not give it as I have my first cold in 3 years.

Hope you have fun at the wedding Urmston.

Thinking of the Gillybobs and sending love.

So for the final time it’s good evening/morning from me. Today we are in Las Vegas. Had an amazing helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, sat in the sun, watched the fountains at the Bellagio (Up town funk and the theme from Titanic) and had a couple of cocktails. Flying home tomorrow evening (your today or even tomorrow) so will be home Saturday evening UK time. So confusing. It’s been a fabulous holiday shared with DD2. Some poignant moments but lots of laughs and new challenges.
Thoughts with those of you who have heath worries and particularly Gilly
Hope today is kind to you all.

Good morning from Bridlington, damp and misty here, sure I heard the fog horn earlier. Got very wet on our walk around the headland yesterday, but at least it was mild. Back to the ‘smoke’ today, just hope the traffic is better than on the way up. DD went back last night as she is working this morning; we will be dropping GD to her dad when we get back as he has her for the weekend. Hope you have a good day

Pantglas2 Fri 25-Oct-19 07:35:13

How lovely Urmstongran- haven’t been to a wedding in years! And a mystery trip for Mick!

Bit damp here in north Wales and nothing planned for the day but meeting a friend for a curry this evening and I know bad weather is promised.

Hope everyone has a good news day x

Marydoll Fri 25-Oct-19 07:40:27

Good morning from a damp and cold Glasgow, it's only three degrees here too.

Mick, your mystery day sounds exciting. Looking forward to hearing your clues.

We have our wee granddaughter all day and also for a sleepover, as mum and dad are going to a wedding. I hope the bride has a fur coat, it's not going to get any warmer!
DGD was so excited at coming, that she had her bags packed yesterday morning and was so disappointed when mummy took her to nursery instead!. grin

I am hoping that if I feel OK after picking up DGD, I can persuade DH to take me to Lidl.
I know, Lidl sounds so exciting, but I'm going stir crazy and we have been living out of the freezer and store cupboards for weeks and they are now bare.
My seige mentality is kicking in and I NEED to be prepared for my next health episode! grin
After that I will be chilling and taking it easy. DGD, papa and I will probably play Happy Families, dominoes and Snakes and ladders, some lessons in turn taking and not always having to win are on the cards. ( Do you like the pun?) wink

I managed out for an hour yesterday with DH to do the nursery pick up, it was so good to get some fresh air.

Thinking of Dragonfly too and praying for some positive news of the Gillybobs. It's heartbreaking what they are going through.
Best wishes for all those with worries, health or otherwise,
Wishing everyone a pleasant day.

Morning Mick, morning All from a still gloomy but dry corner of Somerset. Food shop this morning then tedious admin before collecting two of our grandchildren for an overnight. Hope today works out dragonfly, thinking of gilly, enjoy it all urmstrong. Hope Friday is kind to everyone.

EllanVannin Fri 25-Oct-19 07:44:33

Good Morning All x
Still very dark and I have a feeling that it's damp out too. I only stuck my nose out to let the cats out.

No shopping or washing to do, D took one of my large bedspreads to wash yesterday as the tub in her machine is quite large and accommodates it easily which is handy.

There are some large hurdles to face as I'd learned yesterday that GD was suffering from depression after not having said anything about it . It's an urgent situation which all the family will have to deal with because of the children.
Just what I need at my time of life ! Still, if it means me taking on one of the children then so be it.
It's going to be a long journey. I hope I have the staying power !

Thinking of the Gillybob's too and hope to hear of a flicker of life from her DH to give Gillybob a much needed lift. x Another long journey to face for another family.

Hope all is well with everyone else and enjoy your day.

Marydoll Fri 25-Oct-19 08:01:00

EllanVannin, I'm so sorry to hear of your GD's struggle and hope she gets the help and support she needs.
Just remember to take care of yourself too.

Urmstongran Have a great day at the wedding!

Lins1066 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:08:33

Good morning from the S Welsh coast.
DH says that there was heavy rain in the night but for once I slept and didn't hear it. We had our flat roof fixed yesterday morning so fingers crossed for no leaks. There is a yellow weather warning for rain later.
Enjoy the wedding Urmston and your mystery evening Mick.
Best wishes to you dragonfly today.
I'm sorry to hear about your GD EllanVannin, we have been through a similar situation with DD and DH. My heart goes out to her and to you, she is lucky though to have a caring family to support her. ?
Hope all have a good day and if travelling, take care.

EllanVannin Fri 25-Oct-19 08:09:41

Thankyou so much Marydoll--------it never rains does it ??

Sar53 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:10:20

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny Essex by the sea. A small food shop this morning and then ironing, I hate doing it but needs must !!
I hope there is some better news from Gillybobs today.
Have a good day everyone.

Urmstongran Fri 25-Oct-19 08:15:27

Oh EV that’s a tough call but you seem such a warm caring person I expect you’re a great-gran who will absolutely support family in a crisis. Hope you find the stamina you need and that your granddaughter gets better soon now that everyone is aware she has been suffering. x

Susan56 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:26:15

Good morning from a dull, damp Shropshire.
Town this morning then lunch out at the garden centre.
Ellan, sorry to hear your granddaughter is so unwell and I am sure all the support she is getting from family will help her in her recovery.Depression is such a hard road for patient and family?
Urmstongran, have a fan day at the wedding??
Marydoll, don’t overdo it and dragonfly ?
Gilly, hope there is some improvement and the antibiotics are doing their job.Sending much love to you and your husband.x

NannyJan53 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:27:46

Good morning from a cloudy but dry Black Country

Walking for Health Walk this morning, then hair appointment this afternoon.

Enjoy your wedding Urmston. I was in a shop last year and picked out a dress to wear, and a woman said...'oh I wanted to try that on, for a wedding I am going to this afternoon'! As it was the only one, I let her try it first...it didn't fit. Talk about last minute!

Sorry to hear about your GD Ellan I too hope she gets the right help, and you sound like a very supportive Great Gran!

Thinking of Dragonfly today, and hoping all goes well.

Also, gillybob it is heartbreaking for her, hoping today is the day a corner is turned.

gillybob Fri 25-Oct-19 08:30:20

Good morning from the NE coast . No “hooray it’s Friday” today again, sorry.

Another traumatic day yesterday when the doctors decided to reduce the sedation right down again but for a longer time . They have been doing this every other day in order to check brain function etc. But even when they do it for a very short time as it is very distressing . Yesterday they decided to reduce it down considerably but for a longer time which was very hard . He was naturally very upset and confused and immediately started pulling at the ventilator and feeding tubes etc. Which is apparently a normal reaction . Unable to communicate he became more and more distressed as time went on so they restarted the sedation , it was like someone clicked their fingers and he was gone again. I think this is something they might be going to do every day now .

They tell me that the markers in his blood are showing signs of responding to the various antibiotics and yet his x-ray shows his lungs as bad as ever. Why is that ? I feel that there is something they are not telling me despite all the questions I am asking.

It is 2 weeks today since he went into hospital and I still cannot understand why someone goes into hospital, has an (emergency) operation on their tummy which was successful and ends up critically ill on a life support machine from an HAI (hospital acquired infection) .

Anyway another long and upsetting day ahead I fear. I really wish I had some good news to report.

I hope those who are poorly and feeling under the weather begin to feel better soon and those enjoying happy times, continue to do so.

Thank you again for all the wonderful messages of support, comments, good wishes and PM’s . I really can’t begin to tell, you how much they keep me going in these dark days . I really must try and do a bit shopping later as there is nothing to eat in the house. Thank goodness for Asda being open 24 hours as I fear it might be a middle of the night shop .

Love to all, Gilly xx

dragonfly46 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:40:44

Oh Gilly there is no answer to your question. You would think that they could get on top of a hospital acquired infection as they must have come across it before. Sending you lots of hugs and love as always.

Resurgam123 Fri 25-Oct-19 08:45:32

Thinking of you Gillybob.
Xxx

EllanVannin Fri 25-Oct-19 08:48:20

Gilly, because the lungs show up as " iffy " is because anyone who's in a coma, induced or otherwise doesn't have the wherewithal to cough and clear them because such reflexes are in a relaxed state. Chest infections are a nightmare in such cases.

The pulling out of leads/cannulas is something that most do and isn't unusual so staff do what is necessary and increase sedation.

Infections aren't a rare thing in hospitals unfortunately because of the low resistance of patients who are being treated in ICU units.

Sending my thoughts and best wishes----keep on talking to him, he's all there x
