Which country would you choose to live if you couldn’t live where you are?

If you had to flee the country you are currently living in, which country would you choose to live in? I would happily live in Ireland, Italy, France or Canada - all places I’ve lived in or have family. I wouldn’t want to live in Australia - too hot or the USA - too many guns. But haven’t visited either, so I suppose it boils down to the familiar.

Coconut, which part of Italy- things are very different if in Naples or Milan ... or the Lakes.

Massively different to go on holiday somewhere and loving it- and actually living there.

I do love Italy as well, must add that! and parts of Spain, Seville and Cordoba particularly.

As I get older I have come to appreciate Britain more though, didn't in my younger days, it's very beautiful at its best, all of it England, Wales and Scotland, haven't been to N. Ireland, but I gather it is very lovely too.

Living somewhere warm is very tempting but I love Germany and it’s people and I could get back to the U.K quickly so I’d probably plum for Germany ??

I can't think of anywhere I'd be more at home than Scotland. So, as I currently live in England, I count Scotland as another country (which one day it may be) and would return to my roots.

Scandinavia, Holland, Australia or Canada for me.

Crystal - I suppose it depends on the reason to flee. If it was because of war/conflict we would want to go to nearest safe country. Personally I rather like Barbados but it is too expensive for me to live there and have same standard of living I have now.

New Zealand if it wasnt so far away.
I live in Scandinavia and it is SO expensive, cold winters, summer ok, like the UK summers really, but NZ for me

Italy, every time. I love everything Italian and the history is mind blowing.

Italy for me too - I'd never been although I yearned to, and asked my (now ex) husband if we could go for my 50th. He said he'd be bored "just walking around and looking at things" (we went to Vegas, walked around and looked at things). 2 years after we split I took the plunge - I've visited Rome, Siena, spent 4 wonderful days in Florence on my own for my 54th birthday;, Venice (and Murano & Burano), and last Christmas in Minori, visiting Amalfi, Sorrento, Salerno and Pompeii. In October I went to Genoa, visiting the Cinque Terra (on TV last night with Gino's Italian cookery show). This Christmas is San Remo.

either Italy or Scandi country or Holland

Having lived abroad for 20 years (Hong Kong), if I had to chose then either Spain or Australia!

Granny23 Fri 06-Dec-19 10:38:03

I would have to be dragged out of Scotland, (perhaps exiled for treason against the UK?) If this happened then it would be Canada for me - distinct seasons, wonderful scenery, egalitarian society, incredibly friendly, helpful people.

Thingmajig Fri 06-Dec-19 10:38:24

Probably Denmark too as the current husband is Danish and has lovely grand-kids there. The weather is usually very nice in summer, unlike here!
I loved Australia but it's too far away from grand-kids here ... plus we're too old to get in. grin

It would have to be Spain for me and I would love to live in Altea on the Costa Blanca coast, full of history and art galleries quaint typical old Spanish houses.

BusterTank Fri 06-Dec-19 10:43:01

I would be quite happy to live in spain i lived there for 15 years before . Although Greece keeps calling me but I would even give Canada ago .

Reddevil3 Fri 06-Dec-19 10:45:01

I live in France and love it. I lived in southern Spain for years and enjoyed it but they don’t have the seasons as we do here.
I have spent a lot of time in Norway and even though it’s great in summer, the winters are horrendous. Not only the cold but lights are necessary from about 2pm.

BusterTank Fri 06-Dec-19 10:46:38

glammanna i used to live not far from altea in place called Denia . If you ever moved there you wouldn't have any regrets .

jenni123 Fri 06-Dec-19 10:47:58

I did move to live in egypt from South of England. i stayed for 13 years, really had no intention to return to UK but ill health forced my return. Now disabled and know I would have struggled to have stayed in Egypt under the circumstances.

Dee1012 Fri 06-Dec-19 10:48:19

I'd opt for Ireland, as a child I spent a lot of time there and I do think it's a beautiful place.
If not there..Germany.

EllieB52 Fri 06-Dec-19 10:49:09

I fled a year ago to Scotland. Very happy here. ???????

Venus Fri 06-Dec-19 10:54:42

Tenerife . . . a mild climate all year round would do me.

Brigidsdaughter Fri 06-Dec-19 10:59:17

I like Spain but would love lakes and mountains. I spent a week on a bridge break in Seefeld and the people, food and surroundings were perfect

Brigidsdaughter Fri 06-Dec-19 11:00:20

Seefeld in Austria
