Raising money for NHS

Yes, it's not to subsidise the NHS which should be funded by Government but I certainly do not begrudge donating to a charity which may provide refreshments, wellbeing packs, extras etc for the staff who are working so hard.

To think otherwise is curmudgeonly.

The "raising money for the NHS" is something of a misnomer. The money raised will not be going to the NHS itself but to an umbrella charity which supports NHS workers

I don't know about the NHS but there'll be a few companies knocking on the door of number 10 with cap in hand as they see their businesses hitting rock bottom. The economy's going to take a battering when this is all over.
I wouldn't like to be the one in charge of the country when that happens.

When you get the likes of Branson asking for a handout you know there's going to be trouble.

I'm very uneasy about the charity for the NHS,with this government it may be the way forward for them to claim its the norm.Not what anyone who supports the NHS wants..it shouldn't be dependent on charity ,not now...not ever

NHS Together is an umbrella for a number of individually registered charities, mostly attached to specific hospitals, like Great Ormond Street or NHS trusts. So I don’t think the Government could just take the money any more than they could take the RSPB money, for instance. Charities have a legal status.

I didn’t agree with Tory policy on the NHS but then I didn’t agree with the Labour’s policy either. PPI, what a disaster!

However the NHS charities are mostly used to fund “extras”. To make ward environments pleasanter, create quiet spaces, play equipment, to make long stay patients lives more tolerable and yes, support for staff in the form of rest spaces, meals etc.

I see why watermeadow says don’t donate if you voted Tory. I feel like that about the “clap”. Don’t go out and clap at night if you’re choosing to go out in the day!

If £billions upon £billions had not been wasted on bl...y Brexit, that Boris Johnson vanity project, over the last four years, just think how much could have been invested in the NHS.

It is of course disgraceful that the NHS has been steadily starved of funds and become the focus for privatisation by stealth. Realistically funding the NHS is a problem because of the advances in medical science. But that is all the more reason to treat it generously in the allocation of funds, and to protect its integrity as a public service.

Whilst the principle of state funding for health care needs to be preserved and protected, I can understand why people feel the need to donate as a symbol of how much the service and its personnel mean to us all. I do not know how these donated funds are being collected and only hope that they are being directed to where it is needed and does not fall into the hands of central government.

The nhs charity is supporting the staff- yes it would be nice if the government gave them a 25% pay rise though.

Yes, the NHS needs proper funding, of course, but surely this is the time to be supporting the staff with extras via the NHS Charities? Food at the end of their shift, counselling, sleep pods, a comfortable place to unwind sound good to me. My worry is how quickly the money raised will translate into reality. I also read that some donations will go towards research.
