Just that really.

First pictures of the Queen outside since she went in to lockdown at Windsor Castle.

Out riding on a pony this weekend, enjoying the sunny weather.

Not bad at 94.

Grany, bearing in mind there is always an elite social class in any society, are we not better off with landed aristocracy than , say, bankers or political advisors?

annep1 Thu 04-Jun-20 19:39:09

Perhaps someone could reply to Grany's post.

Callistemon I have justified my views many times on similar threads.

Callistemon Thu 04-Jun-20 18:36:09

My forelock is becoming rather long, trisher. I need to tug it to one side to see the way forward.

Oh, I can see clearly now! A presidential system would not be cheaper at all.
I do like value for money.
And stability.

When monarchists read things they don't like or can't justify they just ignore.

Sorry, but that was rude.
IMO.

How many times does any poster have to state the case plainly, be ignored then be told they cannot justify their opinions?

I listen to the views of those with differing opinions if supported by the correct facts but some are best ignored if their evidence is basically wrong.

Not nit picking trisher you are insulting people who admire
the Queen by calling them peasants.

trisher Thu 04-Jun-20 14:00:05

It's an expression of speech Anniebach Widely used.
touch (one's) forelock
To show excessive deference toward someone in a superior position. An allusion to the former act of pulling one's frontmost hair in lieu of having a hat to tip.
But feel free to nit-pick

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 13:52:35

I don’t know what millions ‘do mentally’ *Paddyanne , you do

paddyanne Thu 04-Jun-20 13:46:49

but you know that mentally millions do touch their forelocks because they think the RF is in some way superior to the rest of us.
I was brought up to believe that no one is better than me and I am better than no one else...not money or education or birth can make you superior. You might be better AT something ,a fabulous chef or a brilliant writer but you aren't better just because of your birth and shouldn't be treatd as though you are .Its an out of date concept ,fit for the middle ages and should have been left in the middle ages.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 12:41:09

I don’t know any peasants and never seen anyone touching
their forelocks

trisher Thu 04-Jun-20 12:32:26

Well said Grany and the peasants are happy to touch their forelocks for some reason. Something similar to Stockholm syndrome I suppose.

annep1 Thu 04-Jun-20 12:09:23

Good posts Grany.

Annaram1 Thu 04-Jun-20 11:50:03

Anniebach and Sparkle, since you both use and believe in homeopathy, perhaps you can tell us how much of an actual part of a swimming pool is in those little bottles of so-called medicine you take at great expense to you?

Grany Thu 04-Jun-20 09:22:09

2020 and we still have an elitist royal family here in the Uk who are unelected and run amok doing as they please all living in vast Palaces Castles and thousand acre estates while not having real jobs and are as corrupt as any middle eastern countries leaders, Andrew alone is a good enough reason of why the monarchy is not fit for purpose, then you have the rest of them all with their noses in the trough, I mean what does Edward actually contribute to the UK in return for the lifestyle he enjoys at our expense, it's only a matter of time before they will be gone.
The "good for tourism" excuse is the one most commonly heard and among the least plausible. The UK ranks a subdued 10th in the world; and of the top nine only two have monarchies (Spain, Thailand) though I am sure that it is not for the monarchies that people rush to the beaches of Spain or to the bars of Bangkok.

Grany Thu 04-Jun-20 09:19:47

I am always amazed when Monarchists say that the Royal Family works hard on our behalf.
Firstly, they don't work hard. They get whisked from home to an engagement, perhaps to another engagement and then back home again. They never have to concern themselves with transport arrangements or when they can get some lunch.
Secondly, much as they like to think so, they do not work on our behalf. All of their actions are done to perpetuate the existence of what Phillip calls, 'The Firm.' If they really had the people's best interests at heart they would give up the legal powers that Graham lists and cut down on the largesse.

seacliff Thu 04-Jun-20 09:02:13

Good for the Queen, being able to get on the horse and ride at her age. Lovely to see.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 08:58:24

Do people work 12 hours a day, ? If they are on the minimum wage they must be employees, who are they ?

Alexa Thu 04-Jun-20 08:55:54

Almostelderly, all you wrote is true. But why say it?

The woman rode her pony. Good on her, and of I had a quiet pony and a man to lift me on and off I'd ride my pony. So what?

almostelderly Thu 04-Jun-20 08:50:21

It's amazing how well and active one can be when cushioned by vast wealth and privilege. Not having to work 12 hour days for minimum wage must also help, not to mention living in a palace rather than a care home.

Alexa Thu 04-Jun-20 08:41:32

There are always going to be some people much richer, much more powerful, and a lot more successful than others, whether or not they deserve to be. Queen Elizabeth and the British monarchy generally , as long as they don't commit recognisable crimes, excel as elite personages and there might be a lot worse and few better than they are.

H1954 Thu 04-Jun-20 07:58:37

Oh, here we go...................Cavaliers & Roundheads all over again!

annep1 Wed 03-Jun-20 18:13:29

I haven't been rude Callistemon. At least not intentionally. Just pointed out some facts.
Inherited royal wealth, its all in the history books.
AnniebachI have explained to you in previous threads..

annep1 Wed 03-Jun-20 17:50:49

That's an interesting idea Ilovecheese.

Grany Wed 03-Jun-20 17:05:29

I think Queen and RF present themselves on world stage for themselves don't know what benefit they are to rest of us.

A president would be representing the people and promoting U.K. image a democracy. A president chosen who has had an interesting career in Ireland

Mr Higgins

He has used his time in office to address issues concerning justice, social equality, social inclusion, anti-sectarianism, anti-racism and reconciliation. He made the first state visit by an Irish president to the United Kingdom in April 2014.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 16:41:40

You mentioned Versailles.
It was lateral thinking on my part.

Buckingham Palace is not a home in the proper sense of the word.
