Good Morning Everyone,
Its dry but signs of an overnight shower here in Brackley this morning .
Yesterdays , trip out was interesting my first experience of the Monday to Wednesday eat out and get it cheaper , I went to the cafe I use in Buckingham , not thinking that just having a coffee would qualify I paid £1 for something I normally pay £2 for.
Today , quiet small shop, then cycling on TV this afternoon , hoping that it is cooler as well.
Take Care ,
Mick

Good morning Mick and the GM team from sunny east London. We managed to sleep quite well last night with the aid of two fans in the bedroom.
I must do my walk early, before the day heats up.

Stilllearning I did laugh at your DGS deciding he ‘wouldn’t bother’ with school. ( I remember clearly when I started school, I was very surprised that after the first day, I had to go again, the next day).

I have baked some salmon for supper, so minimal cooking today. We are finding that by about 8.00pm it’s much cooler outside in the garden and then we can enjoy our supper.
The poor cats are like limp rags.

Have a good day all. Hello to Bluesapphire, Dragonfly And Purplepixie. ? to those who need them. ?

Good morning from a grey and misty NE.
Prescription to collect today but nothing else planned.
DS and family are on holiday at the weekend, still going ahead as far as I know and yesterday my sister said she is going away next week.
I need to sort out GD's birthday gifts but no hints as yet.

Good Morning everyone.

Phew! Too many suffering from the humidity and lack of ? sleep. Can I wish you some nice strong winds to clear all that ‘mug’. Humidity finishes me......I loathe it. It might get really hot here but as long as the air is dry (and I have a cool bedroom) life is good. No one wants to feel they’re struggling in a tropical jungle.

So glad to hear that Mr Gram is home and that baby Henry is better. Bittersweet day for all Grans whose tiny GC start school - especially under such difficult circumstances. I expect the emotion will still feel the same, though.

Pleased you’re on The List, Mellow.....take care and be kind to your poor old hip until you get your brand new one.

Just off to get my little car ? MOT’d and then to a supermarket to shop for a garden supper planned tomorrow. Not seen these dear friends since February, so a noisy, happy evening outside will be our first chance of a catch-up. Must buy some more candles - the sort that deter the mozzies - and call in at another friend’s wine Cave, for supplies.

Don’t want to be late for the garage rendezvous, so will wish you all a good day, as safe as possible from too many worries and problems. Try to have the happiest Wednesday, all.
Please take care of yourselves and each other.
Hugs from ??

Good morning from a very warm and sticky mid-Notts - I already feel like I am melting!! No plans as such today thankfully although Mr BA has a meeting to attend. The rarity of a non-virtual meeting - his first one since February (his company began the work lockdown several weeks before Boris began the national one). Hope everyone has the best day possible and please stay safe x

Anniebach Wed 12-Aug-20 08:49:21

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

❤️❤️ marydoll hope your precious DGD settles well in school and thinking of all the GNs in Scotland with DGC either starting school today or going back - hope all goes well for everyone - and the teachers too! ?

Good morning from the NE coast where we have had the fog horn blasting all night and a thick, damp mist rolling in from the sea...... oh how I long for a little bit of sunshine

I’m off to a bit of a late start today after a not so good night so I will be a little late arriving at “that place” today. I had little Evie yesterday afternoon until quite late and it was all I could do to keep her awake in the car on the way home . Good job she’s as good as gold and not a pick of bother .

Reading about the eating out scheme that others are taking advantage of it seems that there are no participants in our town (hardly surprising mind you) as my sister and her partner rang round lots of different restaurants and couldn’t find one . I always thought it was probably a scheme aimed at the middle class and not for downtrodden towns like ours.

I am sad to see that the jobless figures have risen quite dramatically again and that once again the North East have come top of the one list you don’t want to be top of . Listening to an MP talking on the news last night she didn’t have a bleedin’ clue. Probably never even visited the North East in her life .

Well enough of my ramblings I really must leave for work . Wednesday is my 3rd worst day of the week or my 4th best depending on what mood I am in ....no prizes for guessing today??

Still thinking about our missing friends BlueSapphire and Dragonfly and those who are not feeling too good especially CherryCezzy and of course Marydoll .

Glad to hear your little Henry is feeling better now Susan56 it must be such a worry for you all. I hope they can get to the bottom of it very soon. My little Evie has allergies but nothing in comparison to your little lamb Henry.

I bet you are shattered after 3 days decorating and now off to work Scentia I know that feeling very well . So glad you are getting orders flowing in . It keeps me hopeful . ?

Also glad to hear that your DH is home from hospital Grammaretto .

Must get a shake on or I will meet myself coming back .

Take care all and have the best Wednesday possible .
Love Gillybob Xx

Looks as if Blackburn may be getting some of this sun that other people in other areas have been experiencing. I find it so depressing to be stuck indoors in a lockdown.

Mapleleaf Wed 12-Aug-20 09:20:16

Good morning,

Well the sun is shining again for now and it's getting hot. There was a storm and downpour around 4 am but I drifted back to sleep so apparently missed the worst of it.

Went to the hairdressers yesterday and feel normal again- the wicked witch of the west look has gone! ??

My friend came round for a catch up yesterday afternoon. We socially distanced in the garden. It's her first visit to my house since lockdown began. We had a good catch up.

So glad to hear that your little grandson is feeling better, susan and as I said yesterday, I hope all goes well for him next week.

I've only flicked through the posts, so sorry if I've missed anyone, but send good wishes to you all. Take care. ?

mumofmadboys Wed 12-Aug-20 09:28:19

We walked / climbed up Scafell Pike from Borrowdale yesterday. Lovely day but demanding! Lazy day today definitely! Take care everyone and keep safe.

Georgesgran Wed 12-Aug-20 09:31:13

Good morning from an overcast Durham - think we could do with a good downpour here to clear the air.

Monumental c*ck-up with DH’s hospital appointment yesterday! Had a long standing appointment, then received a letter offering a telephone consultation for the same day at exactly the same time - obviously wanting to keep face-to-face limited because of Covid? NO!
It would appear a complete coincidence that the ‘phone call was a different appointment, so we actually missed a more important appointment waiting at home for the phone call! Same time? Same day? Isn’t there any ‘joined up writing’ these days! We couldn’t be in 2 places at the same time!

Anyway DH has gone out for a few hours - a bit of respite for both of us, so I can crack on with emails to update his sister on his condition.

Have a good day everyone. X

Gelisajams Wed 12-Aug-20 09:38:54

I’m impressed with you climbing Scafell Pike in the heat we had yesterday Mumofmadboys. It’s about 5 years since I was on the top of Scafell Pike and it wasn’t easy getting up there, or getting back down!

mumofmadboys Wed 12-Aug-20 09:43:17

Must admit Gelisajams we were both knackered!! Lots of folk on the top - maybe 100! But they were mainly in their 20s and 30s. Not many oldies like us!

EllanVannin Wed 12-Aug-20 10:02:12

Good Morning All x ( showered already )
Like yesterday we've got the " steady " sun shining after Mondays storm, but notice somebody was hit by a storm last night. There's no wind around to shift it as it's just rumbling round and coming back grin

Nothing exciting on the cards today and I'm not even going to cook so a nice salad will suffice and a couple of slices of honeydew melon. I had a Galia melon last week, who knows, it could be water melon next smile

I expect D to call today before she trundles off to Durham tomorrow to see Ruby-Lou, who was better behaved than the 3 siblings she took with her to visit ! A loving child so far away upsets me greatly I'm afraid. Some children were born to be the " only child " and she's one of them. It appears that way to me. sad Bless her, she's a lovely girl. I wish I wasn't so damned old or I'd have taken her on !

If ever there was a fighter it's Marydoll. This year has been challenging with one thing and another and she's still wading through it all. x
Gillybob's another one---out of the same mould x.
It takes strength of mind.

Glad to hear that Henry's more settled, Susan, I feel your pain too. x

There are all sorts of things I should be getting on with but good weather doesn't visit us often here so I'll give things a miss for the time being and make the most of the sun.

Be careful in the heat everyone and keep yourselves safe xx
Thinking of those who don't feel so hot.

GrannySomerset Wed 12-Aug-20 10:13:06

Late getting going after another rotten night, and North Somerset is hot, humid and sunny. Another day for not doing very much though I have a haircut this afternoon which will be welcome. I didn’t have it cut short enough and therefore I have hair sticking out all over the place instead of my usual neat style. My own fault - having endured it growing for so long I fancied a change of style, but it isn’t to be.

Some good news on the thread this morning and still hoping that Gillybob has some too. Keep cool!

Urmstongran Wed 12-Aug-20 10:33:28

Morning everyone! My shortest message ever. I’ve been trying to post without success. x

Urmstongran Wed 12-Aug-20 10:40:34

Sun’s up here!
Good morning everyone from Malaga where we have another gorgeous day ahead ? - the rain yesterday (10 minutes) has cleared the air and the humidity has gone. Lovely.

My sister sent this photo yesterday. It’s the removal van that had left Spain & had arrived to load up their furniture. They follow on this weekend - flying out on Sunday. She said it all seems real now!

A landmark day for all the little ones in Scotland going to school for the first time! Too cute. I hope all goes well for them.

Hope Wednesday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

gillybob Wed 12-Aug-20 10:45:49

Same time? Same day? Isn’t there any ‘joined up writing’ these days! We couldn’t be in 2 places at the same time!

Seems to be a common occurrence with the NHS these days Georgesgran my DH was sent 2 appointments for exactly the same time in different hospitals . One was for a pre-op medical and the other for a Covid test prior to surgery.

Then an appointment was made for a procedure following his surgery and when he arrived they refused to see him. It was my DH's fault of course. I mean he really should've known better than to attend an appointment that they made.

Unigran4 Wed 12-Aug-20 11:24:27

Good morning all. I have been on GN for a couple of months now, but not been brave enough to post - but here goes. Hot and clear skies here just south of Heathrow airport. We are never too bothered by the planes here because they take off east/west or west/east and we are south. By the time they turn and come over us, they are too high to be bothersome. But I must admit, that when one does go over these days I notice it more because of its rarity.

So - Post Office today and then more ingredients to make more tomato chutney. I have had 5kg tomatoes off 9 plants so far, and probably as much to pick again, so am busy with puree for the freezer, chutney for the family, and Granny's special ketchup for the DGC.

Better get the guinea pig cooled down first before I start with the pots and pans.

Taichinan Wed 12-Aug-20 11:34:17

A VERY late start for me today on the Angus coast. After little sleep, thunder at 6am I then slept until 10 am. Shock horror! It's a lovely day at last here - last night was a real pea souper and we have only had the odd little glimpse of sun lately. Two GDs off to school today. The 16 year old is so happy now with her exam results. She's always straight A for effort, but she will have even more impetus to go forward now. What a fiasco that was and I do admire the immediate U-turn by the government (but not the ridiculous fuddled thinking that necessitated it!). Sorry, haven't time now to have a good read of all the lovely posts - a treat for later. But for now I shall start "getting on". Have a good day everyone, and I hope all those thunderstorms have cleared the air. ??

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 12-Aug-20 11:37:14

Good Morning all from very sunny Harrogate. Yes today it will either be very hot or thundery!! It will probably be the latter since 1 just hung a wash out and 2. Am dressed for the sun!! Will probably do some baking again.
Sorry you are feeling so down Marydoll - what school did you used to teach in? My DDs (quite a while ago went to schools in Newton Mearns). Hope you feel better soon

EllanVannin Wed 12-Aug-20 11:44:55

Oh Urmston, that removal van took me back to when D and SiL moved to Oz. It was Pickfords who moved them and it was 6 weeks before they saw their furniture etc. again. I knew it was final when I saw that removal van Tears of sadness for me, but there'll be happiness for you smile I wish them a safe journey x

EllanVannin Wed 12-Aug-20 11:47:30

My insides flipped a few minutes ago as a train has de-railed on the North Eastern line----the same as my D will be taking in the morning from Lime St at 10am. I hope nobody has been injured too badly. How frightening.

CherryCezzy Wed 12-Aug-20 11:52:59

Good morning everyone. Slightly cooler here in Gower today, it reached 33° yesterday and was registering 28° in the bedroom when I went to bed!

Aww, all the little uns in Scotland off into the wider world of school ☺️. Some with trepidations it seems and others bold. I hope you get your photo shoot Marydoll ☺️ and everything is fine at the bell Stilllearning.

Susan, I'm really pleased that lovely little Henry is better after that hiccup and I hope it stays that way whilst he's off the medication waiting for those long overdue tests ?

Georgesgran I don't think there is any joined up writing going on in the NHS at the moment! It's a disgrace that ,essentially, your DH had a similar "c#*k up#" happen as gillybob's DH. I hope he does get the appointment "rescheduled" quickly.

Glad your DH is feeling much better Grammaretto.

Be kind to yourselves everyone and stay cool and safe ❤️

gillybob Wed 12-Aug-20 12:06:36

Hi CherryCezzy I hope you are feeling okay today smile

Here on the NE coast we haven't had anywhere near the temperatures experienced by those inland or further South. We have got grey (almost white) skies today and thick, damp mist. It was 15 degrees when I came to work this morning.
