Have you ever seen a flying saucer or UFO? I have!

This morning I had to call Mr Apple to look at the flying saucer I could see on the horizon. It looked stationary and hovered above distant hills. On reflection, I decided it should be called a UFO - it certainly was an unidentified flying object. Then it moved, very slowly, downwards - it looked like a barage balloon - does anyone remember these? I don't know what it really was. Have you ever seen something really inexplicable?

I was at sea for thirty years and I have seen some amazing sights in the sky, and in the seas, including water spouts, tornadoes, both northern and southern lights [Aurora Borealis and Australasis] but never anything that, upon reflection and discussion I could honestly say was ‘unexplained’ however, I would be delighted to be proved wrong.

What I can say, after visiting almost 90 countries is, that there are many weird and wonderful people out there and many of them firmly believe that we cannot be alone in the universe.

Walking down a hill early one morning I saw a blindingly bright shining object in the shape of a 8 on its side coming towards me. As it flew over my head it turned out it was nothing but the landing lights of an airliner coming in to land. Not everything is as mysterious as it seems!

Driving to work one day, I saw a bright ball of light travelling fast, in straight line, not that far above the horizon. I stopped car and watched it until it disappeared behind a hill. When I got to work someone said it was probably a satellite caught in the sunlight. Further enquiries did not turn up an explanation.
Friend’s late father was in air traffic control until he retired. Many years after he retired he admitted to her numerous alien UFOs being sighted by him and his colleagues, including near miss collisions with our aircraft. All instances were logged and placed on file. Many sightings were apparently reported in by pilots and flight crews and remained a mystery.

Many years ago, I thought I might have seen something... It was 3 lights in a long triangle, then one of the 'back' corners (can't remember which) seemed to move forwards, to take the lead as it moved off in a new direction.

Speaking as an extremely practical, least fanciful, and no-nonsense person, I must post that, yes, I did see two things I cannot explain. Bit complicated to write but I can still picture this in my mind's eye.

In car. Turned off A.41 towards home at Aston Clinton, happened to glance towards our children's little school and there, way above in the sky and small enough to be impossible to see clearly but sharp enough to be noticeable, I saw something unlit (not shiny), and stationary. Didn't think much at first, as assumed a plane at the kind of angle where it's difficult to see travel and direction. Looked back; still there, looked again just in time to see it shoot away upwards. Never saw anything move in that fashion before, nor since. To clarify, all this happened in the short time I drove (very slowly), from the main road then past the school. Still creepy to me.

The only other time I've seen anything remotely unusual was when we lived on the side of a Herefordshire hill, perched up high and overlooking a long stretched out valley. Just chanced to look at the sky in time to see an oval light, massive, in the sky over the valley. It quickly dimmed to nothing. It was way too big to be plane lights, fireworks (it was broad daylight), a flare, lightning, or any other day-to-day cause. It was eye-shaped and to this day I still joke that I have seen Gods' eye. I imagine this was what is known as fireball. Similar pictures on google images.

One dark evening I was driving along the main road when suddenly above me to the right there was a stream of orange lights on a downward trajectory. It looked as though some kind of small aircraft was crashing from the sky. There was a car in front of me and it braked to a standstill. I stopped behind it and then suddenly just above the field on the left, whatever it was tilted through 90 degrees, there was a whoosh of green smoke and it disappeared. Ten years on, my brain still can’t process what it saw and annoyingly the car in front raced off, so there was no chance for a discussion. So, in answer to your question, I think there might be.

As a child growing up un the 1950s and 60s in Northern England I had a strange one winters evening. I heard a loud rumbling outside and found my parents on the doorstep looking at a the underside of a large craft hovering overhead. It was massive and covered the whole width of the street. It looked like the craft from the recent Armageddon film. All the neighbours were out and a police car turned up. The pice were at a loss and were ringing the nearest air force base. The craft hovered for 5 minutes then flew off. There was a report in the local paper, it was described as an unknown craft. Everybody called it a UFO. There were a few sightings round this time and the area became popular with UFO spotters. I looked up the back copies of the newspaper recently but the one for that day had gone missing from the local library as had the British Library copy.
I saw a documentary 2 years ago about the development of stealth weapons by the US during the cold War. Some military personnel claimed an elaborate hoax was played on the public, to cover up the tests. Dead cattle, alien abductions and UFOs were part of the plot. They tested a lot of the craft over certain areas of West Yorkshire where I lived (the Ilkley Moor/Keighley/Halifax area). I felt quite annoyed at how we were hoodwinked as I felt I had genuinely seen a UFO.

I've never seen one but I'd love to. Do they exist who knows. If we can put people into space we can't rule it out . I loved your comment lewie

Rondetto Tue 01-Sep-20 11:17:23

Yes we have some years ago. I didn't think there was any point in reporting it or telling anyone about it because of what some people might think as we see on this thread.
I dismiss lights in the sky as they could be anything, but an actual craft that can manoeuvre upwards and sideways at such amazing speeds in completely different. We were making a 250 mile journey at night that usually takes about 4 hours. It was very dark and no other traffic around, my wife asked me what it was hovering above us. I took my eyes off the road to see a huge craft. Everything went so dazzling bright my only concern was to keep driving straight but couldn't . We were about one hour into the journey home when this happened and the next thing I knew we were parked outside our house. It was about one hour after we started our journey which of course is impossible. We never talked about it as we were both in shock. The following morning I went to the car to find all four tyres were burned out and had to ring a garage to tow the car in for new tyres. I didn't know how or what to say to explain that. Crazy? Yes it is. All I can say is that it really happened. How, or who or why I will never know.

One evening years ago I called my ex ( very skeptical person) over to look at a strange set of lights zig zagging in formation backwards and forwards right across the skyline. We watched for several minutes until the lights just vanished. We lived on a hill near to a couple of air bases, one of which is a base for spies. It was pre social media and it wasn’t until some days later I heard others had phoned the authorities to report sightings. I have no idea what it was but I will always remember that night..

Annaram1 Tue 01-Sep-20 11:21:30

My late brother claimed to have seen an alien craft one evening in South Africa. It landed in a field near enough to be seen by him and he claimed that some small beings emerged and looked at him, and then went back inside and the craft flew off at lightning speed.

I believe that some sightings may be of secret planes being developed by America but of course they deny this. The FBI and other departments there are said to be firm believers in UFOs. I believe in them myself, and hope to see one before I pass away. Intelligent beings from other galaxies could have developed means of transporting themselves to Earth and other planets just to see what is going on. They don't seem to interfere with us, although there are people here who say they could have helped in the past to build enormous structures such as the Egyptian temples and places in Mexico which would not have been possible many thousands of years ago.

Do not close your mind to the possibility that other planets could be inhabited by races far superior to our own. Do you honestly believe that of the many many planets in the universe ours is the only one where life exists?

Nannymooney Tue 01-Sep-20 11:21:50

Years ago I was in the woods with a friend (don't ask) when I saw a glittery silver ball move in an arc across the sky. No idea what it was and left me in awe.. .a magical night!

Nannan2 Tue 01-Sep-20 11:28:40

This is a wind up right??

Baguette123 Tue 01-Sep-20 11:30:08

They are here and have been for years. It’s naive to think the universe exists just to serve humans on earth. I don’t particularly feel comfortable with this but am open minded enough to accept there are things we don’t know about. I firmly believe there are people who do know and deal with this reality daily. Check out Paul Sinclair’s You Tube channel, ‘Truth Proof.’ He is really down to earth and always looks at the practical side of sightings first. There’s some weird stuff going on out there which will become common knowledge in years to come.

I've definitely seen something which I couldn't identify. About ten years ago, walking with some friends in the countryside I saw a bright silver object, or light, travel very fast across the sky and then it simply stopped high above us and disappeared.
There is probably a simple explanation.,, but..... confused

MiniMoon Tue 01-Sep-20 11:33:39

My mother and I were walking to visit my grandma. We were puzzled by a bright light just above the horizon in the south west. It was a summer evening, but it wasn't a reflection. It moved very slowly to the east, stopped and moved slowly to the west. We were certain that it wasn't an aeroplane or a helicopter.

We never did find out what that light was, but it was certainly strange, and remained a talking point with my mother and I over the years.

Baguette123 Tue 01-Sep-20 11:39:33

@Frankie51: I think you did see something genuine but the documentary was the cover up, not the other way round. Why kill cattle to cover up military testing? The cattle mutilations still go on.

Harmonygranny Tue 01-Sep-20 11:53:54

Following the U.S navy video of unidentified craft released in June, there have been articles published by the New York Times confirming its authenticity. The respected journalist Leslie Kean is worth listening to on this subject.

Is anyone else reading this thread and thinking "it's so unfair, why haven't I ever seen a UFO???"

quizqueen Tue 01-Sep-20 12:00:42

Seeing a UFO is number one on my bucket list. In general,
I find believers like me are the ones who never see them!

CBBL Tue 01-Sep-20 12:05:55

Yes, I believe so! I didn't think this at the time. I worked in Leeds and my office was in a very high building (14 floors). Working late one evening, around 7.00pm, I went from my office to an adjacent one, and saw an object I couldn't identify. Shaped like an advertising balloon, but completely plain and silver in colour. It was just hovering. I thought it might be on a tether of some kind, even though I could not see one. As I stood and watched it - it suddenly disappeared. I looked round at the the scene - the building had huge windows and looked out over the city for miles. I spotted the same object again, simply hovering over a different building in a different area of the city. I watched again, and called some colleagues to the window to see it. For a second time, the object just "blinked out" and re-appeared in a different place. This happened five times while we watched. The most interesting thing was the way in which no-one saw the object travel that I remembered distinctly. It moved position without anyone seeing it do so. I stared hard at the cylinder shaped object, not taking my eyes from it, and yet it simply disappeared and then re-appeared somewhere else. It was only later that I decided it must be a UFO. The Cylinder was silver coloured, slightly shiny, with no windows, no lettering, nothing. Completely smooth, no fins, nothing to identify it. The manner in which it moved was the most remarkable thing!

I once heard a story, which I believe to be true, of an airline pilot who saw a UFO from the aircraft he was flying. It came quite close to the plane and he was able to take a photo of it. He then radioed the control tower to alert them of what he'd seen and that he had taken a photo.
When his aircraft landed he was met by "security officials" who confiscated his (pre-digital) camera. He later got the camera back - minus the film.
So yes, I do believe UFOs exist and that more than one airline crew member has seen one.

The first unknown object is the bible.they think it might have Been a comet.

Bonfire night, France, English family outside enjoying the
English tradition along with Grandparents over for the birth
of new baby.
Google 'UFO France, November 5th 1990

Millions of us saw it but no explanation or validation was
ever given. I have never doubted they exist since that night!

Certainly overshadowed our fireworks!

I saw what I believed to be a UFO when I lived in Hampshire in the 1970s. It was early evening time and it was made more obvious as the sun was shining on it on one side. I looked for as long as I could follow it, which wasn't long. That said, I do believe there are UFOs out there; simply explained, if we are sending "metal" up into the skies and beyond, why shouldn't someone else somewhere out there be doing the same thing! Simple as that to me! I'm sure we are not the only "humanoids" living in the Universe given it's perceived size.
