Guesses?

If people had observed the guidelines/rules, socially distanced, worn face coverings etc there would be no need for anywhere to be on Tier 2 or 3.

There have been videos shared on line and shown on MSM of folks just doing what they want, partying in the streets, attending weddings of 100 people along with the continual protest marches for one thing or another.

I am just totally exhausted and depressed y people not caring about their fellow humans, not prepared to give up anything for the good of others...........

Completely agree with you and when stricter measures are put in place those people are the first to complain!

Whitewavemark2 So it doesn't make any sense to you. So what? I won't be reading anything else on here grin. It's not very interesting to me grin

Whitewavemark2 Yes, I do read some of these threads. Strange, I thought we were allowed to have differing opinions on things.........

Of course we can have differing opinions!!

It is just that I find it very difficult to understand folk who moan about the various threads and how they find them depressing etc, but continue to read them.

It doesn’t make any sense.

If there is a thread that I don’t like or disagree with or find depressing or don’t understand the humour etc I avoid it. I don’t go on and say that I’m sick to death of reading the thread???

Pink Cakes. I do understand that you want a break from Covid when you’re not at work. But please understand that those of us that are reading about it, discussing it etc etc are doing so to protect ourselves and others from the pandemic to take pressure off people like you and your colleagues. And we rely on the information we get from the news etc etc.

AGAA4 I'm fully aware of what's going on, thanks, but I really am sick of hearing about it all on every chat show, news report, in every newspaper, etc. I read the paper online once a day, and that's depressing enough for me.

But you continue to read these threads?

While getting on with life we need to be aware of what is going on around us. How else can we beat this pandemic if we don't keep up with what is happening. I don't find it boring as it is very concerning.

PinkCakes Wed 21-Oct-20 15:12:00

lemongrove and Ilovecheese Yes, really. I AM sick of hearing what Boris has got to say (I've always voted Tory but he swaps and changes his rules so often). I live in Nottingham, a tier 2 area. I work in a hospital (not medical). There are 37 ventilators in this hospital alone. 9 are in use at the moment - all of those patients are 80+ and have underlying problems.

I wear a mask, follow all the rules (baaaaah) but I don't want to keep reading and hearing about Covid every hour, every day. Some of us are getting on with life.

Iam64 Wed 21-Oct-20 14:02:42

Thanks for posting that trisher. I saw it earlier but lack the technical skills to post it here.

Andy Burnham is our hero.
If anyone is obnoxious it’s the PM (and many of his ministers)

trisher Wed 21-Oct-20 12:38:38

This sums it up!

trisher Wed 21-Oct-20 11:07:53

Yes lemon 40mill for just over 1mill people in South Yorkshire, but only 60 mill for 2.8 mill in Greater Manchester. The figures just don't add up!

lemongrove Wed 21-Oct-20 10:43:52

It isn’t trisher ( obnoxious) to do that, but his language and behaviour generally has put him on a collision course with the government regarding putting things back by a week in Manchester, giving the virus full rein.
Thankfully that’s over now.
Other areas have just come into tier 3 (Sheffield and above) and have agreed terms for business support.

trisher Wed 21-Oct-20 10:36:54

How is it "obnoxious" to present a fully costed support programme for the people you represent? Including incidentally the small independent businesses which were once regarded as the backbone of the Conservative party. Wonder who they are supporting now? Margaret Thatcher must be turning in her grave.

lemongrove Wed 21-Oct-20 10:30:05

Of course the Council leaders were/are behind him, they wanted as much money as they could get from the government. It sounds though, that Burnham has been obnoxious with his demands ( he could have used a bit of charm, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar)!

trisher Wed 21-Oct-20 10:15:34

lemon they will still get it (through Council Leaders.) Can’t blame them for bypassing Burnham.
How do you explain all the local council leaders standing behind Andy Burnham when he announced what was happening? This idea that he will somehow be bypassed is stupid. Greater Manchester council leaders and MPs stand solid with Burnham.

Jane10 Wed 21-Oct-20 10:13:31

Meanwhile Covid rages on.

lemongrove Wed 21-Oct-20 10:07:41

Burnham has shot himself in the foot and should have accepted 60 million plus the track and trace money.....they will still get it (through Council Leaders.) Can’t blame them for bypassing Burnham.

Callistemon Wed 21-Oct-20 10:07:40

I don't live in Manchester so probably should not comment.
However, my point was that, were it not for the mishandling of the Stafford Hospital tragedy, Andy Burnham could well have become the Leader of the LP and would still be today, or even PM.
That may well have cost him vital votes.

westendgirl each area in whatever tier should receive the same per capita, for example an area with 100 people would receive £100,000 and an area with 500 would receive £500,000 ( these figures are obviously just for illustrative purposes)

In that case, Burnham's £90 million wasn't far wrong. Greater Manchester has a population nearly double that of Liverpool. Sheffield, which also has a smaller population, has just been given over £40 million.

lemongrove Wed 21-Oct-20 10:01:43

No, growstuff I don’t believe that at all, I am a Northerner too who has lived in the South for a long time and think that far from your take on things North/South regarding a divide,
It’s simply that the North being far from London ( the centre of all things financial and Westminster) has always had the money and the power.
There is money in the North but historically has had more
Poor manual workers than the South.
Conservatives would much rather have all people on their side, regardless of being in the North or South.

TwoWolves

Good for Andy Burnham for sticking to his guns.

I'm sick of the government shouting "Jump" and the country asking "How high?"

Exactly how I feel.

tells me there is a formula for financial support across the country.

▪️£8 per head for track & trace etc (already known)
▪️£20 per head for business support

He says latter works out at £58m for Greater Manchester. Govt offered £60m.

growstuff Wed 21-Oct-20 09:56:10

lemongrove

Or growstuff you have swallowed Burnhams spin! ?

Oh no, I haven't! I've been following the details closely over the last ten days - more than you obviously have.

vegans rock, yes - talk about playing politics indeed. WW you're right, Cummings isn't interested in facts and also I suspect he wants to stoke the north south divide.
Interesting though that standing firm with Andy Burnham are Conservative MP's and Councillors from our area.

Bolton was under very strict regulations, for longer and despite its rate dropping. The Conservative leader of the council has been working closely with Andy Burnham, supporting his stance throughout. Maybe some of those red wall tories are learning something about their constituents , I hope so.

The Conservative MPs have now done the dirty on Burnham and have written to him, saying they will deal with Hancock, who has said he refuses to deal with Burnham.
